Okay sure, but that's not how things work here in reality. Outside of posting crap on internet forums, when you're dealing with actual decisions, there's such a thing as "opportunity cost". And if the Quakes HAD signed a semi-retired Vela who posting selfies from swimming pools like they wanted to and like how some of you geniuses wanted, they wouldn't have been able to sign HLM. So the choice was HLM or Vela, and Vela would mean no HLM. Even toddlers eventually learn that actions have consequences...
thats right ding dong, even you yourself thought signing Vela was a good idea once it looked like CL was fresh out of ideas and the season was getting underway and we weren't ready.
you were, as was I. That's why I was surprised by your sudden change of heart. I think once it looked like nothing was going to happen, Vela started to look a little more interesting.
April 15: https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/l...1-pregame-thread.2130086/page-2#post-42152429 "If anything the Quakes being as terrible as they are supports NOT signing Vela?? Imagine if the Quakes were completely uncompetitive with their big signing being an aging and ineffective Vela for $3 million a year as their third DP at age 35, that contract would be an albatross for the next few years and make it much harder to rebuilt the squad into a contender."
I'm still waiting for you to back up your nonsensical claim that you know, better than I, what my views were vis a vis Quakes signing Vela. Something about April 15...take your time. Surely, you're not referring to these... "Maybe, but given the start to our season, Vela would've been a big upgrade and possibly could've helped a lot, on the field and in the stands." "I wasn't really big on the Vela signing to begin with but given where we are now, having Vela for this year would've at least made thing more interesting."
Two Vela comments from two different people on the same day... guess who: "I wasn't really big on the Vela signing to begin with but given where we are now, having Vela for this year would've at least made thing more interesting." I guess some people might consider those to be the exact same position... maybe if they had zero understanding of the English language idk
you can read my quotes on Vela. I’ve been unambiguous and consistent. Not a great fit for us, but better than not getting anyone, which is how things were shaping up at the start of the year. I know you were really hoping he’d sign here, as you just said.
I'm also the Messi and Friends #1 Quakes Nut Shagger too. No Shade or Shame . I shag Golden Beckham Balls too.
Never is when you're coughing up those posts where you say I criticized CL for not signing Vela, apparently. Again, I never thought Vela was the answer to building a competitive team here for the future.
The Quakes should buy out Gruezo and go get Aaron Boupendza from Cincy for pennies on the dollar... https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5511449/2024/05/22/mls-transfers-almada-shaqiri-mcguire/ Aaron Boupendza, FC Cincinnati Aaron Boupendza’s time in MLS is likely to come to a close this summer, even if it may be difficult for FC Cincinnati to find a suitor right now. The club was already ready to cut ties and move on from the striker before his jaw was broken in an altercation at a bar a few weeks ago. He’s had his moments in MLS, but has also been suspended by both Cincy and the Gabon national team. Cincy paid $7 million for Boupendza. They are unlikely to receive anything close to that figure back in a deal to send him out and open a DP spot. Another complicating factor is that Boupendza has already played in Turkey, Saudi Arabia and China, three potential markets that could afford his current salary and acquisition costs. Boupendza has nine goals and four assists in 31 matches for Cincy. He’s still recovering from the broken jaw. It’s possible he’s played his last game for the club. Another option would be Talles Magno Talles Magno, NYCFC It feels odd to group the 21-year-old Talles Magno here, but he just hasn’t started consistently, whether due to injury ot tactical decisions. The talent is there for Magno, but his value will continue to depreciate the longer he sits on the bench. The 21-year-old has played only six minutes this season before being out with injury. He’s been an unused substitute in each of the club’s last four games. With all the options NYCFC has in attack, perhaps the best outcome for all parties would be a move abroad. Last summer, Bologna made a loan offer, but NYCFC were only interested in a straight sale.
