he’s been mediocre since most of last season. It was a failed gamble by Leitch to bring him in as our 9. He fancies himself as a 9 but he isn’t….he doesn’t have the psycho drive to score…to do anything in his power to put the ball in the net…he’s a million miles away from Suarez In mentality.
Well that's why Suarez is a world class striker who'll be remembered for the rest of time, Ebobisse won't even come up in the worst, he's just a guy pretending to be a striker. Anyone who was upset when Ebobisse wasn't called into National Team Camp should have their opinion player card taken away.
I'm not going to argue that Jebo's been good enough as our 9 for the last year and a half, but I do want to call out that he's been largely responsible for the last 2 Pellegrino goals. Against CO he collected a header at the top of the box, made a move to his left and forced a punch that Pellegrino put in. Against Portland he wound his way thru the defense and got onto a diving header on a set piece. Once again, Pellegrino put in the parry. Those plays don't show up on the score sheet but the fact of the matter is that Jebo was a key contributor, if not the key contributor on those 2 goals, both of which I think got us on the scoreboard in those games. Pellegrino gets the credit - and he deserves some - being a poacher is a good part of his game, but if we're honest and fair, Jebo made those goals happen.
It could have been anybody else in that same position given the opportunity...he's a 9 and he rarely scores. Those examples just point to the fact...the guy who should actually be playing the 9 is probably Pelle who is intuitively in positions to put the ball in the net. We need far better play from that position...and Luchi needs to get creative how to get better there...give a few more players a crack at it, play a false 9...anything...but he is so locked into Jebo and Judd as the only options...Luchi will float our left flank attacker centrally to help the situation, but the elephant in the room is just remove the underperforming players...instead of trying to put a bandaid on the problem.
I see it the other way around. It could be anybody who scores those poacher goals. You or I could have scored them. You need someone to make a play to make those tap-ins possible and that's what Jebo did. That said, I'm not opposed to trying Pellegrino as the 9. He's not going to be a hold-up play guy but he's a poacher and he can run past the defense. In fact, this was my "outside the box" lineup I proposed against Austin, updated mainly with Yueill being available and Hernán on the team. -----------------------Pellegrino------------------------- -------------------------Hernán----------------------------- Marie/Ricketts----------------------------------Espinoza --------------Rodrigues-------Yueill------------- Costa---------Bruno------------Munie----------Akapo ----------------------The 'Brough------------------------
As of this posting, Jeremy Ebobisse’s next goal (whenever that’ll be) will move him past Baby Judas for third-most goals in team history (behind only Chris Wondolowski and Ronald Cerritos). GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
You can usually find them on the San Jose Earthquakes Wikipedia page, though the info there (and on Wikipedia in general) isn’t always kept up to date. In this particular case, though, the TV announcers in yesterday’s Earthquakes - Austin FC game stated a few times that the goal Jeremy scored tied him with Baby Judas for third all-time in team history.
