"Bradley Wright-Phillips likes to call him MLS' Frank Lampard because of the way he shows up in the box & the type of goals he scores." - @SachaKljestan Cole Bassett has been balling for the @ColoradoRapids. 🇨🇦👏Chapeau! 🇨🇦👏Congratulations to Moïse Bombito on being called up to @CANMNT_Official for their upcoming European friendlies!📰 » https://t.co/diGBenP5sm#Rapids96 pic.twitter.com/2ckxIguL1O— Colorado Rapids (@ColoradoRapids) May 27, 2024 First friendly is June 6 in the Netherlands
Pumped for Moïse! Hopefully he gets some valuable minutes / development. He's been doing so well for us that this is a well deserved call, but he definitely needs some refining in his game reads. Canada plays in the Netherlands on the 6th and the 9th. For what it means for us - we play this weekend in Vancouver on the 1st. I imagine Moïse plays for us, then hops on a plane shortly thereafter. We don't play again til the 15th at home against Austin. So theoretically, Moïse could miss 0 minutes for us - which would also be nice!
A reminder that with the Rapids on the road this week you can come out to Peak-to-Peak Charter School Stadium in Lafayette on Sunday afternoon/evening to see the USLW/USL-2 doubleheader between Arvada-based Flatirons FC and Boulder-based ALBION Colorado SC. ALBION is the home team for this one (Flatirons plays their home games at Mines' soccer stadium). One ticket gets you both games, and you can get 33% off ($8 instead of $12) here with code CENT38. https://app.soccerstub.com/events/22388

I have no idea how much of a chance Bassett has of making the final Olympic roster of only 18, but he's done nothing but prove himself with his play this season. He is relentless and plays to win with his positive passing and support of the attack. Also, it seems he should make the MLS all-star roster, not necessarily as a starter, but he's earned the honor.
MLS clubs with most goals scored PLUS goals conceded in MLS this season:1. Inter Miami, 59 — 38 for, 21 against2. Portland Timbers, 58 — 28 for, 30 against3. San Jose Earthquakes, 57 — 23 for, 34 against4. Colorado Rapids, 53 — 27 for, 26 against— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) May 29, 2024 I think it’s safe to say the Rapids have at the very least actually become enjoyable to watch this season. Everybody likes watching games with goals!
Selfishly, I hope Bassett isn’t selected for the Olympics. We don’t have a lot of depth and I don’t want to lose him for a month. Though, I confess I don’t know how many matches he would actually miss. Plus the US has Rokas Pukštas that can cover that #8 spot. He also has a nose for goal. I think he’d be Bassett’s competition.
The Rapids are more entertaining than last season, and more successful so far. But 1 point from the last 3 matches with 11 goals conceded indicates that the good start may be over and some changes are needed. The roster is improved over last season but is still thin. Steffen isn't an improvement over Yarbrough and has been a disappointment for me. There's lots of gushing over Bombito, and he makes more good plays than we got from that spot last season, but he still makes a lot of mistakes, like getting caught ball-watching on one of the goals tonight. He's young and will probably get better, and he's already better than anybody we had next to Maxso last season. The fullbacks haven't been very good - Rosenberry has been inconsistent and Vines another disappointment. There's no MLS-level #6 on the roster so opponents just run through our midfield. Bassett, Mihailovic, and Navarro give us better attacking than we had last season. But the rest of our attackers aren't good enough. There's simply no depth. Get a decent #6 and a winger who's an actual threat to score and we're probably a playoff team. Otherwise, we'll continue to leak too many goals and will probably drift down the table as the season wears on, especially if we have any significant injuries.
His contract is up this year (with a team option we obviously won't pick up) so I assume he'll be cut then.
Back on the international stage 🌎Homegrown Adam Beaudry has been called up to the U-19 Men's @USYNT for their upcoming friendlies in South America!📰 » https://t.co/RfunzG1rXs pic.twitter.com/jZUCByCrJX— Colorado Rapids (@ColoradoRapids) May 30, 2024
You say "obviously" with more confidence than I feel. Smith loves fast wingers. But I hope you're right.
According to this piece, the Rapids are working to get Navarro's contract down to a Max TAM in addition to negotiating the transfer fee. I have way more faith in them being able to get it down to a max TAM contract than I do them bringing in a DP for the freed up slot.
Am I crazy in thinking this might be a better lineup than what we're putting out there right now? Steffen Rosenberry - Bombito - Maxso - Vines Summer 6 signing Bassett----------------------------Cabral Badji - Navarro Badji has been released from his contract and is available on a free transfer. He knows the organization and the league and would probably take a sub-$200K contract. And he's going to be better than Yapi. Playing two strikers means we can drop Cabral further back and not rely on him to actually score, but to start attacks and set up the strikers, which he does seem to be somewhat skilled at. Then we need a real 6 in the summer window, but we need that no matter what.
Whoops, Djordje should have been the top of the diamond. Steffen Rosenberry - Bombito - Maxso - Vines Summer 6 signing Bassett----------------------------Cabral DM Badji - Navarro
