The 2024 MLS Season is racing by, as we come into the last weekend games of May already. This past week saw a few coaches hot seats get hotter, and some contenders continuing to role. New York City went to Chester, PA and handed the Union their 4th straight loss at home this season. Portland got a controversial victory over the Quakes at midweek. Cincy continued to poor gasoline onto Pineda's seat with their 1-0 win over Atlanta at TQL. RSL continued their torrid start with a win over Seattle in midweek. Nashville sent Gary Smith packing after they beat visiting Toronto 2-0 on Wednesday. The weekend's slate of games saw more of the same. Nashville and Atlanta started things with a fairly pedestrian 1-1 draw in Music City. Cincy eased past St louis 3-1 at TQL. The Union got back on track by easily handling the 10 man Revs 3-0 in Foxboro, and in the process made Caleb Porter's seat all that much hotter. Toronto smashed Canadian rival Montreal 5-1 at BMO. Chicago made it two losses at home this week when the Crew walked past them 3-1. Austin picked up their second win of the week by squeaking past a game Sporting KC side 3-2 at Q2. New York City claimed another rivals scalp by beating the Red Bulls 2-1 in Queens. RSL and Colorado played a Rocky Mountain Cup game for the ages, as RSL scored 3 goals in the last 10 minutes to win 5-3. Orlando went west and did what most teams have been able to do this season, beat the Quakes. Will any coaches be fired this weekend? The Revs host the in form New York City, could a bad showing see Porter fired? Atlanta host LAFC and are in desperate need of a win and good showing, will they deliver for their coach? DC United host the Fire, how many goals will Benteke score? Montreal is having a very bad week, can they get a win at home against Nashville? Orlando welcomes the Champs to Inter & Co (lol). TFC host FCC at BMO in a clash of top Eastern Conference sides. Colorado and Minnesota will tangle at DSG in what could be a very entertaining game. Portland is hosting Sporting KC in a battle of struggling teams. Could another loss usher in change in Portland? Vancouver and another record crowd will close the week out when Miami comes to BC Place (w/o Messi). As usual all game times are eastern. National broadcasts & Free games are listed. All games can be viewed using MLS Season Pass on Apple TV. Kickoff times can be found here. MLS N&A play by play threads are neutral spaces. Keep all rivalry-esque banter out of these parts. NYC with an aggressive start. A shot from 8 yards blocked in the 25th second and two dangerous free-kicks knocked for corners.
Anyone who bought a ticket to the game thinking Messi would be flying from Miami to Vancouver to play on artificial turf right before Copa America was living in a dream world. It was obvious to me when the schedule first came out that there was a 0.01% chance of him playing in that game, and that was being optimistic.
Why is MLS constantly confusing us with jerseys this year? Atlanta, playing at home, is in light blue instead of their traditional red and black, while LAFC playing on the road is in black.
Looking at the Sounders roster against St Louis, very thin in CB with 17 year old Stuart Hawkins the only CB on the bench. 35% of the game-day Sounders' roster were born in the Seattle area (Morris, Ragen, Baker, Baker-Whiting, Rothrock, Kitihara, Hawkins). Can't complain about the Sounders not playing the local young guys!
Normally, a header from there isn't very dangerous. This one, though? Off the inside of the far post. Even with the ball not moving too fast, the keeper had no chance.
I just have a feeling that our match tonight with you guys is destined to be this week's MLS After Dark cray cray match. This looks like a setup for 90' of end-to-end frenzy.
If only Seattle were capable of scoring! Atlanta with a golden chance but Rios couldn't make good contact with the ball right in front of the goal.
