Is this where transfer Rumors go? Iker Muniain as potential DP to Columbus? https://theathletic.com/5481199/202...usandmore:Europe’sfreeagentswhocouldlandinMLS
Well, that’s literally just made up nonsense lol. Muniain won’t play for another La Liga club, MLS seems like a likely move. We really don’t need another small attacking midfielder. Especially one that has gone downhill the last couple years and had injury issues. Pass.
Interesting table in the EPL. I didn't expect Villa to be in a position to play in Europe this year, Newcastle falling a little from last year was expected but the resurgence in the second half of the season for Chelsea, who could actually finish 6th, is the biggest surprise. Any bets on Liverpool falling off a cliff next year without Klopp?
As if us life long Dortmund fans haven't had a good enough month, Marco Reus buys a round for the stadium. https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_...us-buy-beer-borussia-dortmund-fans-bundesliga
Fresh off of leading Birmingham to relegation, and getting the sack for an absurdly bad tenure, but not yet being convinced that Wayne Rooney can't manage his way through your local sandbox league, Plymouth Argyle has named him as their new gaffer. Surely, they could do better. Surely he has proven conclusively that he just sucks at this.
Congrats to Leverkusen. Neverkusen no more. And they did something Bayern was never able to do--go through the entire domestic season undefeated. And they did that by only being shut out once the whole year (a 0-0 draw).
What does that have to do with the men’s team, exactly? I’m sure the 0.01% of Barca fans that follows the women’s team are pumped right now.
1) You said Barca was a total sh!tshow. You didn't specify men's. 2) Relax, just having a bit of fun. 3) They finished 2nd in La Liga. That is not a sh!tshow. 4) I am sure the women's team has a manager and technical director. They seem to know what they are doing. Football is football. Connect the dots.
What about the handball team? The volley ball team? Basketball team? Mens and womens? Go ahead and fill me in. Either you’re a Barca truther or don’t follow La Liga at all. The only reason Barca is second is because the league is a joke these days. Compare what La Liga (and Barca) was 10-12 years ago and compare it to today. It’s night and day. Laporta just fired one of their absolute legends for having the nerve to say something that is 100% true. Their finances are in total shambles. They sold their future financial security for… what reason exactly? La Liga is in a death spiral, and Barca is the face of it. Real Madrid is about to go on a decade long streak of winning the league, the imbalance is insane. 10-12 years ago, it was the opposite (in the league, at least). Barca used to have Messi, Eto’o, Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Alba, Puyol, Pique, Dani Alves, Valdes all in one team. When they left, they’d replace them with guys like Henry, Villa, and Suarez. What do they have now? Again, completely night and day.
I wouldn’t go that far, but it’s had a talent and financial drain the last few seasons, no doubt about it.
Pretty good choreo in Berlin yesterday. But there were a lot of shooting off of fireworks (which made me think of Matiss) and what Europeans call "Bengal Fire" (an example may be seen to the right of the Cup image). There will be fines for that, though. Fireworks at the start of the second half delayed the game for about 5 min. But Germans are a bit crazy with fireworks. Many years ago, our cable system had access to some German channels. We were watching on NYE. The anchors on the main news station had an outdoor desk by the Brandenburg Gate. They had a large firework rocket on the newsdesk (at least a foot tall)--and they launched it from there. On national TV. In a crowd. The sunset was also amazing....
Markus has on coverage of the UEFA Final. I do not watch much non-US soccer. Coverage included Christian Pulisic lounging in a chair at what looked like fields with youth soccer. Hershey, PA. What a life.
There's lots today. The US Deaf Women's National Team is putting on a clinic on TruTV. The USWNT is on at 5 on TruTV and TNT with the debut of Emma Hayes. And, of course, we know what is later tonight.
I know, right? After 70 years—longer than you’ve been alive —it’s been “God Save the Queen.” Can you imagine the Sex Pistols song being sung “God Save the King”??
Scotland fans banging out the anthem in Munich. Wow. Totally overshadowing the hosts. Great kickoff to the Euros.
This is the first time I've seen THIS one. Referee awards Germany a penalty. But it goes to VAR, and it's determined to be outside the penalty area. It changes to a free kick outside instead of a PK. The part I've never seen before on this particular call is that the referee didn't go to the monitor; he just changed it on VAR's advice. Is that a new protocol?
