Fossey started and played 84 minutes in a 3-1 loss to OH Leuven that was pretty meaningless at this point. First start in quite a while, I think, so nice to see him healthy enough for that.
Good to see that he has recovered. Pure speculation here ... this might have been to show he was no longer injured for potential transfer clubs.
Fossey is quoted in this article about the absolute DISASTER that 777 Group's takeover of Standard has become: So, seems like Fossey is probably looking for a way out. I would suggest that he consider following Reggie Cannon's path to freedom if he continues not to be paid.
If everything comes crashing down, I would imagine that the contracts will no longer be valid. I am not a lawyer, but I was called into jury duty today
MLS ain’t perfect, but at least it’s clean. Inter Miami got spanked for the Matuidi shenanigans, and it was a real spanking.
This can be framed in a broader narrative of how American ownerships have so far been disastrous for Belgian clubs. See also KVO (Ostend). Orkila Capital pumped 50 million into Club Brugge a few years ago to acquire a minority stake. Our current majority shareholder Bart Verhaeghe is looking to cash out in the short to mid-term. I am now quite fearful of us ending up in a Standard type situation if the Americans decide to acquire a majority share. So far none of the concerns that have taken control of Belgian clubs have acted like good custodians. The stories about KVO alone are a horror tale. And it will be absolutely disgraceful if Standard de Liège collapse over this. A true tradition club of Belgian football, 126 years of history, ten league titles and eight domestic cups. And one-time at least one of the finest youth academies in Belgium.
This is down to the 777 Partners group. I guess the problem here is not enough due diligence in terms of what take-overs are allowed, but that is something that ails all of European football (not counting some exceptions like Germany) and probably also needs to be fixed at the EU level.
I suspect Standard is just the first domino to fall in their portfolio (well, technically the two budget airlines they bought were first, but still). The lawsuits make it sound like they've been building this Ponzi scheme for a long time... they're not just messing up with European soccer clubs, they're messing up with some of the most powerful financial lenders on the planet. 777 Partners was founded as, "... a self-sufficient company that is not dependent on banks and third party investors ...", but apparently they didn't plan on achieving that by being good at business. As a slew of court cases show (16 and counting), they alleviated their dependence on third party investors by simply not paying them back.
Liege supporters got today's match against Westerlo canceled due to their protests against 777 Partners. A real mess.

Good to see him ... and the team playing this week. There was discussion among the supports of Standard that they were going to force the team to forfit the last three matches. If that were to have occurred, the team would have been relegated.
Standard manager after the match: Ivan Leko - "There are no positive points, the only positive is the beautiful stadium and that some people still come. They can reminisce about the past of this beautiful club."
Just pure speculation here. There are multiple teams that could use an attacking right back/winger in Europe as well in the US. If he were to come to the US, I do not see him as a DP, but a TAM.
i hope he doesnt have to come back to the US he was on a tear in belgium before his latest injury..... I think he can play at a higher level
No doubt, but he *is* getting paid ...probably (j/k, I have seen nothing to suggest that QPR are still having money troubles).
Cannon not getting paid are partly his own doing. He construed a few mean fans as all fans at FCD and had to leave in a hurry and a huff. Wasn't time to find the proper match and he paid the price. He then was desperate to get out of Portugal and while he now gets a paycheck he usually collects splinters on a team going nowhere. His fall is the most of any US player in the last few years.
Highlights vs Gent start at 26:05. Fossey the closest on two of the Gent goals. The fact that Standard even played is slightly surprising.
I imagine they have to play in order to try to get paid either by the club or by the league. Also I'd think they'd play cause all of them now want out. Gotta play to be seen and show your professionalism to future employers.
