When I compare Ku and Yow, Ku did it right. When Ku couldn’t stick with the big club, he scored for fun at Loudoun and earned his spot back up here. Yow didn’t do jack in DC or Loudoun. I’m not sure what DC did wrong, they can’t speed up time and make him grow out of shrimpdom. He had opportunities, but did nothing with them.
Unless I’m misremembering, which is happening a lot more these days.

Europe did question Yow quite hard and it sounded like they blamed him as much as DC United.

MLS may have graduated to the league before the retirement league.

Some I-phone users are experiencing issues using the app to access tickets for tomorrow. DCU is aware, says it is a TikatDICKtator issue, and it is being worked on....

I'm pretty much in agreement on Ally, but the barebones roster was a gamble he lost. I don't see that anyone has mentioned Brendan Hines-Ike, but he was released in February after Ally was on board. He's making $199,000 in Austin, has been a starter since Week 3 and has been their best defender, if not their best player.

Josh Wolf has repeatedly credited him for the team's turnaround after a horrible start--he even scored a goal last Saturday in a 1-1 road draw at San Jose. He'd be very handy here now. There's a chance it was Kasper who set his DC release in motion, but the timeline makes me think it was Ally that made the cut.

When we cannot be bothered to set up a match day thread on match day, you know that the team is losing the fans...

After think about this, I have a counter narrative. As it relates to the defense, Birnbaum was expected back sooner than he was. Mackay picked up Bartlett earlier and got McVey around the time BHI went to Austin. Mackay then picked up Antley from USL. Tubbs also had a lingering injury that kept him off the pitch for awhile. In essence then McVey and Antley were chosen in place of re-upping BHI. I'm fine with that. BHI also has had his injury problems and, when healthy, McVey and Antley were at least as good, if not better defensively than BHI. Sucks that Antley is now gone for the season and McVey is sidelined for awhile. Those are the breaks, but actually I think Mackay had the defense fairly sorted out.
Listened to an RFK Refugees podcast today and they said in essence the team has overperformed. The roster is a mess and salary really couldn't be cleared until the end of the season. Next year Dajome and Rodriguez are gone -- that's $2million right there in available cap space. As they also noted, if in 2025, DCU still is dressing 14 field players for a match, then you should burn Mackay down.

BHI is better than what we recall. He's been on the MLS team of the week several times this season.

Don’t watch a Durkin all touch video from tonight’s match. It’s depressing.

I am good with us letting BHI go at the end of last season. He had 2 injury filled years here and I don't recall if that was an early offseason Dave move or if we had him linger a bit and it was a Mackay decision. His quality was undeniable, but he his track record of injuries was a big one. He didn't have a bum knee, he was having major surgeries and inevitably his salary was going to escalate if we wanted to keep him. He's on $200k with Austin. He made $375k and $425k in his 2 seasons with us. I am not sure we get him that inexpensively. Similarly Williams went from $875k to $400k. I think there was also a sense that they wanted to start cleaning up the salary cap and giving as clean of a slate as possible to the new regime.

How this team spends this coming off season will be the acid test for Mckay & Lesene. Problem is, its most of a year long project to really get a whole new crop of guys to gel. There's going to be 8-10 new faces, perhaps more. I don't recall that there were more than 5-6 guys under contract for 25, but Sportrac isn't working at the moment. There will be a ton of new faces.

I agree. This season always was a write off by Mackay. Imagine if they had reupped BHI and Williams? That would be over $1miiiion in salary devoted to two over 30 "B" level defenders. Sometimes the only way to stop bad habits is cold turkey. So far, I'm impressed that Mackay hasn't gone full Dumpster Diving Dave mode by bringing in overpriced stiffs like Dajome to fill roster holes. I think Bartlett and McVey are better and are much better fits under the cap -- even though I wouldn't be surprised to see Bartlett get a substantial salary bump for next year.

Received an email from DCU about STHs eligible for free tickets to "Major League Pickleball." Reading it reminded me of "Soccer Comes to Springfield."

I am all for the "synergies" - I just wish they could do it with the Caps!

I never even open that shit. If DCU is sending me something that is free, I know its going to cost me money for crap no one wants. Minor league football, major league lacrosse, major league pickleball (takes the cake) are all near worthless events that I have less than no interest in. The shit that actually matters, the shit you actually want right of first refusal on for your seat you don't actually get like the WNT, MNT, and the ASG, you owning your seat since the stadium opened counts for dick.

They can't make as much money is they give preferences to the suckers, er customers, they already have. They are financial sharks, constantly moving to suck money out of new sources.
