He was brilliant against Tuchel's PSG though. Scored a Golazo from far out and had a great game overall at home. He doesn't even have the freedom to come that deep for City probably because his 75% ish passing at Dortmund is too risky for possession obsessed Pep.

Im fully expecting an Oil State to come a rescue Barca after next season. The socios will still blabber about their “more than a club” nonsense but at the end of the day they want to win.

I don't think the likes of Laporta would want to walk away from that power. Likely scenario is them going public with socios still owning 51%. Even RM might go that route in future.

I feel like it's a player that missed out on important steps in his development. There should have been progress after Dortmund, but he seems like a player very much set in what he is.

Laporta will structure it where he retains power, and the socios will have to dilute their control to get the oil money. Laporta could make it a condition of the money - he’s good at these corrupt deals and Saudi or whatever doesn’t care, they just want the attention of being in control of a big club.

That win for Man Utd puts them into the Europa League next season, means Chelsea drop down into the ECL and Newcastle have no European football at all

I always felt like that's just not going to go down very well with the city and the region. You can forget about a lot of government backing which both clubs get plenty of if that happens.

He probably meant strikers. I don't know about his claim though. Don't think he's as good as the guys he mentioned. Griezmann tier perhaps?

He's not wrong. He scores in finals and semifinals unlike some others name in the list, that didn't do this in 9 semifinals+finals.

He was injured during the world cup. As for no show in CL big games, he's still much better than crowd darling Haaland in that regard. Lautaro is a great player

that injury story came after the wc to explain his poor performance. He even missed a sitter in the final so I guess he wasn’t too injured

Did Bayern opt for Kompany just because he wears a cap on the sidelines? Seems so at this point.

Ya ok they were lying and he actually sucks. Jesus...

The narratives that are pushed by some kind of weird opinion leadership here are really something else. Completely distorted version of reality.

I never said he sucks. He did suck in the CL final, I was there. I was also there in the World Cup final where he also missed a sitter.

but my thing is they never came out and said he was injured until after the World Cup. That sounds more like an excuse than a real reason

btw if Argentina went with Julian, doesn’t necessarily Martinez sucks. Julian just fits better with Messi as all other legit 9s haven’t worked out with Lionel in Argentina so he’s a better fit

He said it, not "them". Its not an uncommon occurrence for a player to say "I played injured" after some time. He looked awkward in his movement and I see no reason to not believe him. The larger question is why some players are so easily dismissed around here. He easily has a claim of being among the world's best strikers. How and where he's a better fit is a different discussion altogether.

well even less credibility if he’s the one saying it

but anyways, yes he is easily among the best. The striker position seems to be in a shortage and he is one of the few really good number 9s in the world. You are right that he shouldn’t be dismissed as a shit player
