Being one of those in the south end, it got better as the building next door went up, as far as the sun issue goes. But we did move from the SW to the SE corner after the first year. There were no issues for us with the visiting fans, but as I was getting over 65, we decided to err on the side of caution.
Every time you bring up your proximity to and concern about away fans at LDC, I can't help but picture you squaring up against some thug from Charlotte.
I'm kinda in the Monty Python and the Holy Grail boat: "Run Away, run away!" Mind you, I've run into some interesting fans in Europe. We almost didn't get to see Vitesse play due to fan issues with their opponents the previous week. Then there was the tram bottoming out as the fans jumped up and down in Cologne....
I am feeling very nostalgic today. Especially regarding section 137. This post warrants an obligatory post of @DrunkandDisorderly “squaring up” against a Chicago thug. This photo makes me smile for so many reasons. And the story behind it spans months/years. Occurrences prior to it, altercations later on, and some laughs far after it. The only time I was ever escorted out of HCS was due to an incident with Fire fans (not the incident above). I got a “warning” whatever that was, and when I say escorted out, we meandered with the security folks for quite some time. To this day, I still remember talking with Brook for a while on our way out. “What did they book you for, Chels?” I am really grateful to have lived through those days.
I'm amazed that I avoided an actual fist fight from that picture. I think the statue of limitations are finally up, so I can share this story. The only time I have gotten into a physical altercation at a Crew game was in Bridgeview when one of their fans came into the visitors section. My wife said that when I hit the guy in the head it sounded like a watermelon being smashed. The Gallagher of soccer fans.
One important lesson we must carry: We will need to keep an eye on our respective kiddos. They will have the passion gene.
Fortunately/unfortunately the days of stealing other teams' banners is over. I did try to bribe one of the security people during the NextPRO final to let me cut down the Austin banners but they wouldn't turn a blind eye.
Of course you did.... Thanks for the laugh this morning. I owe you... candy in the stadium for your little dude?
The July 3rd game vs Nashville has been moved to 6:30pm. "The schedule adjustment was made to benefit supporters, staff members and city officials who will be in Downtown Columbus on July 3, given the anticipated increase of pedestrian and vehicular traffic in the area due to holiday events later that evening." Of course the tickets remain valid bla bla bla.
Where exactly are people going to park? All the garages/lots on July 3rd and July 6th are sold out already according to the arena district park mobile app. Edit: after playing on the Park Columbus app I was able to get Astor garage parking. Why it can’t all be on the same app is beyond me.
Come early and be prepared to walk. Hoping my spot will be available but if I have to walk further so be it . I walk around 1.1 miles from my current favorite spot
COTA would like to remind you of their park-and-ride options. It'll be busy, but then again, so will everything. At least this is an option where someone else is driving. The earlier kickoff might be better for people not wanting to watch the fireworks. Conceivably, someone could be out of the stadium by 8:45, to their car at 9:10 or so and back home in time for the TV broadcast since the outbound roads should be mostly empty.
No Cucho for Colombia on their preliminary roster (nor Arrango). https://khelnow.com/football/world-football-colombia-provisional-squad-copa-america-202405 Copa runs from 6/20 to 7/2 for the Group stage. QF 7/4 through 7/6. SF 9th & 10th. 3rd place 7/13. The Final is on 7/14. Most teams have warmup friendly matches before hand. The USA plays Colombia on the 8th and Brazil on the 12th. MLS has match weeks on 6/8 (Sat, 4 matches), 6/14-15 (Fri +Sat, full), 6/19 (Wed, 11 matches), 6/22 (Sat, full), 6/28-29 (Fri/Sat, Full). That is 4-5 matches per club through group. Further, 7/3-4 (Wed/Thur, full), 7/6-7 (Sat/Sun, full), and 7/13 (Sat, full). Another 3 matches for those making deep runs. Messi missing 6-8 matches, and Robinson for Cincy, should hopefully help us make up some ground. Crew schedule during Copa. We have 12 days off after the Pachuca match on 6/1. 6/14 at NYC. 6/19 at Miami (no Messi) 6/22 SKC 6/29 at NE 7/3 Nashville 7/6 Toronto 7/13 at LAFC -------------Copa Ends 7/17 Charlotte 7/20 at Atlanta Then nothing till Leagues Cup on 8/9. Next League Match 8/23 at Philly. The Olympic tournetly starts 7/24 and group runs through 7/30. QFs 8/2. SFs 8/5. Final 8/9. We probably lose Morris & Schulte on the front end (Charlotte & Atlanta?) but no league matches on the back end for certain. They could both be back by 8/9 for our first Leagues Cup match. That is the Olympic Final date also. Other than maybe JRR for Canada, I do not think we will lose anyone for Copa (knock on wood). But I think Miami, Cincy, & Minnesota will.
