Hey look! It's pallid mustachioed whiny-voiced weenie SKC fan! The guy who went on a whiny rant about how he didn't care about his team anymore after they went 1-10 or something last year (before making the playoffs and getting into the conference semifinals). Looks like he's right back at it. Nice of him to include the Quakes in his rant this year.

pallid mustachioed weenie SKC fan and his pathetic rant

BTW, holy crap, someone check Peter Vermes's blood pressure. He looks like he's gonna blow a gasket at any moment in those postgame press conferences.

If we can't excel at being a great team, at least we do a bangup job of aiming for the bottom of the heap.

I have no idea how Peter Vermes hasn't popped an artery or two by now. And looks like he's on the RapidAgingByCoachingBadTeams™ program along with Luchi.

His post-loss press conferences are very very dire events these days that’s for sure. No one wants to be there.

I disagree -- Peter Vermes (age 57) in this photo still looks better than Luchi (age 43) does right now.

It's not about how Vermes looks relative to Luchi, it's about what how Vermes looks relative to Vermes of a few years ago (when his team started going into long bad spells). I mean the guy is very tightly wound to begin with. He is not compatible with lots of losing. His blood pressure might be in the 300's now, as you can see from his face here.

After a thrashing by the Quakes in 2015. He always looks on the verge of exploding, but somehow he keeps ticking along.

He looks more incredulous than anything there, like losing 5-0 to the Quakes? How is this real?

Oh, he was ranting and carrying on to anyone who would listen. Being perennially pissed off doesn't seem to be a problem for him, whereas living in a state of constant terror has taken a toll on Luchi.

I suppose one can learn to live with blood pressure of around 300 - his body may have somehow adapted. The creases in his brow though are etched in at this point and about an inch deep.

Yeah, in another year or two Luchi will be looking like Sam Elliot.

Love "Viva de Calle San Jose" and ride every time my schedule jives with this community amazing event! For the unfamiliar, this is where the City of San Jose, a few times a year, shuts down some streets to cars and only allows bicycles and pedestrians for a good portion of the day (when I worked in Guadalajara, they did this every Sunday!!)

Anyway, this time the route took us from lake Cunningham (0.2 miles from my house) to San Jose City Hall. When I got downtown, there were so many pop-up awnings with all kinds of vendors, city programs, etc., selling their wares, informing the populous or marketing their situation.

After I walked around for awhile, I saw all the way behind city hall, a Quakes booth! I was joking with the interns about why did they put them all the way in back when they should be out front! The answer I got? "Well, we got here pretty late". :(

A "Small Team" mentality indeed...

From an Athletic survey of 100 anonymous, active MLB players:

    upload_2024-6-11_6-52-12.png

    In their own words

    On the Athletics:

“I mean, have you seen what they’re doing to the city of Oakland and their fans?”

“It doesn’t seem like they want to win.”

“I’ve heard Oakland is pretty rough. Sacramento for three years? I’ve been to that ballpark before. They can’t find something better?”

Interesting that the top three and 4/5 are the black sheep in their two team markets...

The Quakes are very entertaining to watch if your team is playing against them

Which MLS teams are most entertaining to watch? 2024 edition

The San Jose Earthquakes haven’t been good, per se, but certainly worth your time. Particularly after adding Hernan Lopez.

San Jose’s defense is shambolic. The games are open. The attack, especially since Lopez joined, is low-key fun. As long as they don’t drift too far away from the playoff line, they’re a great shout for any random evening of #MLSAFTERDARK. Their games have had a combined 63 goals, with 24 scored and 39 conceded. Goals, goals, goals.

Luchi Gonzalez’s wardrobe is deeper with the NorthCal climate rather than Dallas, too.

Our GF is not embarrassing like our GA and should get a little better with Hernán but it’s not stellar either - 6th from last in the west.
