Interesting and I think one weakness the USWNT has had is in goalkeeper training and I hope this new blood improves that. Of course whatever US Soccer does may be negated by some pretty shoddy 'keeper coaching at the club level. The only 'keeper i have seen truly get better with their club is Alyssa Naeher. She has progressed from an adequate 'keeper to a pretty good one I think because of playing regularly.

A little fodder for conspiracy theorists: https://www.ussoccer.com/teams/uswnt/roster

I went to the US Soccer roster for the USWNT because I can never remember how to spell Naeher, and noticed a little issue. I only saw one goalkeeper and that was Murphy. I wonder why that is? Are we dropping all 'keepers but one????
Of course it could be something wrong with the site or my browser or they could be in the process of updating the site or it could be something else. But I found it interesting.
The US Soccer web page looks like it was designed by a 50 year old. I know it was unlikely to be kids as they would do a much better job and they could also make a web site that was both pretty and easy to navigate. :D ;)

I revisited the site and I now see more 'keepers but I still do not see Naeher. I guess it could be my old eyes just not seeing her.

She want be on the roster. This is the roster for this camp and the two games against South Korea. . This roster will stay posted on site until the next camp roster is posted. So each time there is a camp, there will be a new roster.

I assume the word "want" was intended to be won't as that is the kind of typo I often make so all is forgiven.
I somehow missed that she was actually not included. Thanks.
Although her club play has improved her overall play as 'keeper I still question her in game skills. But she was #1 for so long that i did not even realize she was not on this roster.
I do not know if the exclusion is injury related but, particularly if it is not, then Hayes is doing what earlier coaches refused to do and really looking for a 'keeper upgrade. I hope she finds one, or even several. BTW: Shot stopping is important for a 'keeper and Naeher is fine with that. It is just positioning and directing her defense that has often been quite poor. Also she appears to have to think about her first step during play. That slows her responses just a little.

Naeher is injured (thigh injury a couple of weeks ago in a Chicago game). Her omission from the June friendlies roster isn't a surprise.

For those who don't want to click through the article above, Denise Reddy has been hired as USWNT assistant coach, which everyone expected. Stuart Searle who was goalkeeper coach at Chelsea has been hired as the USWNT goalkeeper coach. Bart Caubergh from Belgium joins as USWNT program director. Caubergh worked at Chelsea for 3 total seasons from 2019-21 and returned this last season. Kilgore remains on staff as an assistant coach, as planned.

Two other Chelsea staff members also have come aboard in staff roles: Ferdia O'Hanrahan who will work with current performance coach Nathan Sherlock and Cameron Meighan as an opposition analyst who will work with lead analyst Kate Cohen. US Soccer also hired Luis Guevara who was previously with DC United as a performance analyst.

Funny enough, this guy's tweet announcing his move appeared on my twitter feed the day before all of these articles came out, so I ended up just looking through his account and articles. It looks like he had been with Chelsea for 3 years, but is somehow also only 22. Looks like we got some type of boy genius/soccer prodigy haha. He also lists himself as a set piece consultant and a bunch of his articles are on set pieces, so hopefully he also helps out there. I feel like our set pieces have been lacking for the last couple years.

The Athletic has an article introducing the staff above a bit more: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5512073/2024/05/22/emma-hayes-uswnt-backroom-staff/

I definitely hope he helps the team improve on their set pieces, especially defending them. Besides set pieces, it seems he also has written on variations of pressing traps.

When she is playing, I think he plans on having Macario take the corner kicks and the free kicks in the attacking 3rd. He has actually been having her take all the kicks during the times she has played for Chelsea.

BTW: I think that having a different GK coach will be good BUT the real upgrade the USA needs is in club GK coaching, It is clear that there has been GK training at the club level that is woefully sub-standard simply watching the 'keeper play in the NWSL shows that the 'keepers are more self trained than professionally trained. The difference is small but quite obvious to me. Naeher's 'keeping has not improved with her club in fact it looks like she has deteriorated. The only 'keepers I see getting better are the ones that had a long way to go or the ones that are on poor teams and therefore face a lot of shots and the potentially good ones get better.

In fact, even with Naeher our goalkeeping is a weakness that cannot be fixed quickly unless we get lucky.
