Ilan Pappe wasn't being interrogated for his past affiliations to the Communist party and, regardless of how much you wish to beat around the bush, it is very clear that the "pro Israel lobby" has been pushing successfully to find various mechanism to intimidate, blacklist, and silence those who speak or write against Israel.

Talking about the "pro Israel lobby", the part that I am actually worried about the most aren't the Jewish components. The minute Iran (which is a nuclear threshold state) comes out and declares itself a nuclear state, the influence of the strictly Jewish parts of the lobby will actually work to push for an accommodation with Iran and will find ways to permanently marginalize their extremist right. The last thing anyone with any true caring for Israel and a Jewish state in the region would want is hostile policies that could lead to Israel's destruction. But the Christian evangelical, "Armageddon crowd", and their enablers and benefactors among imperialist forces and the military industrial complex (along with the racists who were not long ago the actual anti-Semites) couldn't really care less what happens to either Iran or Israel.

Pressure mounts on Israel to stop muzzling news channel Al Jazeera, what's going on?

A total of 27 countries, including the Netherlands, have condemned Israel's ban on news channel Al Jazeera. The group of countries believes that a free and pluralistic press is 'crucial for the functioning of a democracy', especially in times of war. This further increases the pressure on Israel to end the muzzling of Al Jazeera.
Six questions and answers on this issue.

That headline is funny. Like Israel does or should give any shits whatsoever what the Dutch position in broadcasting AJ is.

    “Pressure”

  4. Given your antics the last few pages towards me I get the impression you got butt hurt in some way by me.
I've no clue how, but it shows very hard in this reaction.
27 countries, INCLUDING the Netherlands, and you choose to ridicule it by pointing at us.
    Man, grow up.

Fine, the other 26 nations are just as much practicing the Green Lantern/sincerest pumpkin patch theory of politics.

Think about it…in what universe should nation A take direction from nations B-Z on media access questions? What if Trump wins and the GOPs take the Senate and House and the US passes a resolution condemning Holland for not showing Fox News. You’d laugh, right? If you wouldn’t laugh, let me know what your reaction would be.

The idea is completely ridiculous if you step back and think about it for like 5 seconds.

The only reason IMO to post his news is the glee you feel when bad things happen to Israel.

  6. You really got some kind of a bad trip.
Israel is doing stupid things, not only with AJ, bit also to AP and gets slapped for it.

Under U.S. pressure, Israel reverses crackdown against AP
3 dagen geledenBehind the scenes: U.S. officials spoke Tuesday with officials in the Israeli Prime Minister's office, expressing concerns about the Israeli Ministry of Communications' crackdown on the AP and asked Israel to reverse its decision, two sources with knowledge of the issue said. NSC spokesperson Adrienne Watson said the White House and State ...

They've been bridling press freedom, targeting/killing journalists, but the guy who posts actions/reactions to those matters is the culprit?

27 countries that see absolutely nothing wrong with a state owned media group in which said state also funds and gives safe haven to terrorists.

The fact that 27 countries see nothing wrong with that is beyond disturbing.

  8. Nice to focus on one thing, while ignoring they did the same thing to AP.
Also a "state owned media group in which said state also funds and gives safe haven to terrorists"?
You're however right that instead of making noise about AJ, those countries should issue sanctions for killing journalists.

  9. Houthi rebels using weapons that can reach Mediterranean Sea, says US
    [IMG]Business Standard|2 days ago
The official said Houthis have access to advanced weaponry and that their deployment of anti-ship ballistic missiles is virtually unprecedented

    upload_2024-5-25_1-51-35.png

This is a worrying development. Months ago the anti-Houthi campaign by the USA/UK started and initial claims were it would end the threat (which I in my comments ridiculed).
Now we are reading the capabilities of the Houthi has reached a point they can shoot the Mediterranean Sea.
So billions have been spent bombing/rocketing sites of houthi rebels and it lead to now the Med is under threat too.
    In the mean time:
Iran's elite force IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) recently convened a significant in-person meeting involving leaders of Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis, and other groups forming the anti-Israel 'Axis of Resistance'. This rare gathering of senior leaders took place on the sidelines of Iran President Ebrahim Raisi's funeral.

Wonder what they had to discuss.

It could actually be to dial the anti-Israel/US actions down.
Iran and the US had indirect negotiations in Oman about that, prior to death of Raisi.

AP and AJ are in every way different no matter how much pretzel logic you apply.

Iran. There is virtually no (zero) incidents of attacks or abuse of Jews in Iran (in this century) for merely being Jewish. You don't need armed guards to protect Jewish synagogues in Iran. While a small and dwindling portion of the population, you can still visibly see Jews in Iran because many of them feel comfortable wearing their yarmulke strolling around the park, walking into busy metro stations, etc. Jews even feel comfortable enough to walk into and participate in ceremonies attended by millions mourning the death of Iran's president, and do so without police escort, despite anti-Israel emotions running at a feverish pitch in these kind of ceremonies.

Just look at the facts carefully and analytically as opposed to repeating the propaganda...(the issue is not whether the political stance of these Jews represents most Jews...the issue is about whether being merely Jewish is going to put someone in danger? Or make them feel endangered for merely being Jewish?)

I'll relay this message to Arvin Ghahramani and let him know that Jews in Iran are living in the greatest country on earth when it comes to the safety of Jews. That is of course if Holocaust denialism by the most important person in the country is a small matter to Jews. What Jew wouldn't feel the safest in a country like that.

Being Jewish doesn't confer immunity or exempt you from punishment for murder. The rest is propaganda.

    Describe IM in one word.

    stanger and Moishe repped this.
  18. The only thing you, parroting the bibi clan, throw against them is being a propaganda tube for Qatar/hama.
Fact is that they did nothing illegal in Israel, fact is AP got trampled on by the bibi clan for the same reason, delivering news from on site in Israel and Gaza, the bibi clan don't like. Killing the journalists in Gaza didnot stop the news, so this was the way to do it.
That was what the 27 countries objected against.
By the way, any examples of AJ being complicit in funding and providing safe haven for terrorists, as your stance implies that's why they were banned?

It is literally the same family?

Al Jazeera is funded and founded by Qatar - Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. The House of Thani also funds HAMAS.
That is not propaganda that is cold hard truth

In Romania when a politician has some wealth they cannot explain they say oh its not mine its the money my wife and the kids (8 and 10 years old) made. You would be the sole person in the world who would believe them huh?

Nice combination of ignorance, feigning or not, gaslighting, denial and water carrying. Kudos.

  21. So no examples of AJ , just like AP, being muzzled, other than just for reporting the inconvenient bloody truth from Gaza.
It's telling when one asks for examples justifying the measures one only gets deflections and insults in return.
