Minnesota has the Viking twins, Timberwolves, wild, lynx gophers football, basketball and hockey, and st Thomas hockey yet mnufc still gets 18000-20000 people.

Statistically MSP Metro is 23% bigger than Denver's and last season United's average attendances were 26% higher than The Rapids.

Culturally Minnesota has an entrenched population that have been following their local teams for generations.

Only about 40% of Colorado residents were born in Colorado, while over 70% of Minnesota residents were born in Minnesota.

So I imagine that many Denverarians follow the same team as their parents did i.e. the Dodgers, the 49ers, or maybe the Earthquakes. :D

That doesn't mean the Rapids can't do better.

Oh yeah that's not even scratching the surface of every sport that has some team or event in Greater Los Angeles. There's a reason why people are seriously considering us as a permanent Olympic host.

Rapids problems are more of neglect (even so the club has a minor amount of success). Considering the Avalanche are only about a year younger than the Rapids and have a great fanbase (and the same successful owner), don't know why Kroenke hasn't spent much or at least tried to give the team juice. As much as I tell Rockies fans that joining the Kroenke-Walton Empire will benefit them, they usually point the Rapids out as a prime example of a failing KSE club.

Arsenal fans were saying the same thing a few years ago, so maybe there's hope. I don't think KSE is planning on selling the Rapids, maybe he'll remember that he owns a soccer club in the US.

And remember that Colorado still averaged 15,000+ last season despite finishing 28th.

If they do the 4th of July game in broncos stadium like before they would increase the average attendance

Most likely will be RMC but the big teams in the Western Conference could work.

I will say, the Rapids know they have a problem (The Rapids, not necessarily their overlords at KSE). This weekend is at least the third home game this season where they've offered me (and other season-ticket holders) free or BOGO tickets to the match. They announced at the beginning of the season they the suites were having their prices lowered for the summer matches and that the alcohol add-on was being added for free. And just today I got this email:

One of the (many) complaints listed in C38's letter to KSE that accompanied the walkout last season was the lack of quality food options at the stadium. This is obviously a response to that.

Arctic Cinnamon Nachos? What's next, foie gras poutine? Or is that only a Montreal thing?

Why not? Iceland can grow bananas in greenhouses. I guess anything's possible.

Back on the attendance kick. RSL vs. Colorado last Saturday drew 20,213 in Sandy. That brought the May 18th TOTAL TO: 345,350 for an AVERAGE ATTENDANCE OF: 24,668

Vancouver is listed as 51,035. They're saying Portland had 13,744, but that can't be right, can it?

That should probably be 23,744, unless the Timbers Army have finally realized who their manager is.

New England was the old Seattle and maybe they'll be the next Seattle.

I thought we'd be staying near 25k all season, but seems that was wishful thinking.

Yes, the Portland attendance listed on MLSsoccer.com is wrong. I saw conflicting attendance figures for New England too. Wikipedia has it at 25,625, but on the Revs' summary page through the MLS site, the figure is 26,625.

    Recapping:

New England (vs. New York City) 25,625 OR 26,625
    Montreal (vs. Nashville) 19,619
    DC United (vs. Chicago) 19,081
    Charlotte (vs. Philadelphia) 32,232
    Orlando (vs. Columbus) 21,726
    Toronto (vs. Cincinnati) 27,941
Atlanta (vs. Los Angeles FC) 43,128
    St. Louis (vs. Seattle) 22,500
Dallas (vs. Real Salt Lake) 19,096
    Colorado (vs. Minnesota) 16,201
Los Angeles Galaxy (vs. Houston) 21,707
    Vancouver (vs. Miami) 51,035
    San Jose (vs. Austin) 13,744
    Portland (vs. Kansas City) 22,848

TOTAL ATTENDANCE: 356,483 (OR 357,483 with the higher New England figure)
AVERAGE: 25,463 (OR 25,535 with the higher New England figure)

I watched the highlights and the section was full. Yes, I'm thinking it was a typo and it really was 23,744.

Looked like a good crowd in Colorado, and they got to see lots of goals.
