According to transfermarkt, it was NOT the heaviest home defeat we have ever suffered, but merely TIED for the worst home defeat ever. We lost 0-4 to Houston in 2007. Optimism: We have NEVER lost by more than four goals in any MLS game (we did have the 0-6 debacle US Open Cup game against Seattle during the potato era).
I am OPTIMISTIC that the 2024 Chicago Fire will win at LEAST one more match this season! Maybe even more than one more match. (I know, take THAT shit to the Delusion Thread)
The good news is the Fire are within striking distance of some actual hardware and even though sitting second to last place in the Eastern Conference, New England still has TWO whole games in hand so theoretically we might already be winning?
Optimism. It's the Final Day in the EPL (which sucks). Unlike Sheffield, Burnley and Luton (almost a mathematical certainty with 26 points, they could win today and tie Nottingham, but with a virtually impossible goal difference to make up), we CAN'T be relegated this season. Hypothetically: At the rate we are going, we would end up with 27 points in a 38 match season. That would put us in fourth bottom in the EPL (which sucks) on the final day. If Luton win today, they would be safe with 29 points, we would go down. If Luton fail to win, they would go down and we would be safe.
If Luton Town win and the Fire let in 12 goals they (Luton) would be safe which IF Frank sits Brady could be highly probable.
More optimism! We are playing so poorly, maybe MLS creates a special "relegation" for us. Out of MLS, we could enter the US Open Cup next season. Kings of the Cup 2025, bay-bay!!!!!!
Hey! Look we are no longer the club known for losing 2 goal leads! Most points dropped from winning positions in MLS:1. Sporting KC, 172. San Jose Earthquakes, 153. Nashville SC, 14T-4. Portland Timbers, 12T-4. D.C. United, 12 pic.twitter.com/lbbN80aFbt— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) May 24, 2024
The big fundraiser this year is another white party. So creepy. June 20, 2024 https://e.givesmart.com/events/Co0/
The lack of finishing shown in this ‘highlight reel’ is annoying…but damn…every one of these chances is generated by Guti. More shots & more chances & more goals coming up this week 👊 #cf97 pic.twitter.com/DSo0NlfzfC— Chicago Fire FC (@ChicagoFire) May 28, 2024 The kid has not hit a ceiling…hope we keep him around for a bit.
Czichos and Teran seem to be playing really well together. Czichos looks less like someone that needs to retire and Teran didn't get a yellow card against Orlando. Good times.
Agree. Mauri seems to have fallen off a bit the last few games. Still, only Teran has pace among the 3.
yeah, I was pretty high on Pineda coming into the year but it's been tough sledding for him so far Teran was super aggressive last game -- probably some matches where he gets a yellow for the exact same play, but I thought he played pretty clean for the most part
Update of April 17 post- After 8 matches, Fire has added 3 points for a YTD total of 12. No matter what the outcome tomorrow night, no playoffs this year-again! Time to focus on solving problems so we can be better in 2025.
I am a bit more "optimistic" and think the playoffs are still within the Fire's grasp*. Other than that, I agree! (*As if 'making the playoffs' should be the goal)
