I do like that line but as a card-carrying pessimist I think it is more accurate to say “a pessimist is doubly disappointed.” Once in anticipation and again when events unfold.

Wouldn't the anticipation part qualify as optimism? ;)

If you were anticipating something positive, sure.

I’m anticipating many people are going to vote for some real idiots this November. That’s disappointing to think about now, and will be doubly so November 12 when those cretins get in office.

Pfffft, you're too much an optimist for me! You forgot the part about having to live with the ramifications afterward!

Not Florida but it directly relates to the conversation we were having yesterday regarding public/private/charter schools.

Colorado Republicans tell parents to take kids out of school over fears they 'turn more kids trans'.

Once again, LGBT+ people threaten the "biblical understanding" of conservative Christians who, thanks to the Genesis creation story, think biological sex and gender are synonyms.

If a person can be "turned gay" (or trans, or whatever), I've got bad news for you: They are already gay, but just don't realize it or want to admit it.

One subtext of MAGA is the notion that children are not autonomous human beings with their own needs, desires, rights, and interests. They exist solely as subordinates to their parents.

But nonetheless are mature enough to be able to get married and have children of their own when 12 years old or so.

To be fair, you should also point out this:

According to Denver NBC affiliate KUSA, the email, written by Darcy Schoening, the state GOP director of special initiatives, and distributed on Tuesday, complained that Democrats recently passed a bill, which Gov. Jared Polis signed, protecting students’ rights to be addressed by their chosen names.

Yes, the GOP are shit. But the Dems are moving forward.

Depends, black kids seem to be grown adults when they turn 12. White kids are still kids well into their 30s or retain the innocence of youth.

This state is a truly special place..... Because of some floods, most flights out of Fort Lauderdale and Miami are canceled today. I predict in the next 5 yrs, Fl homeowners will not be able to buy an home insurance in that state.

So you're an optimist. The insurance market is currently insane and I think it just takes one more very active hurricane season (which could be this year) before most insurance companies flee the state. Of course, if we had someone capable and sane in charge, we would be reinforcing our critical infrastructure, retrofitting buildings and investing in flood prevention, and shoring up the state’s insurance company. But we are governed by MAGAts.

I was reading today that hurricane season could be a whopper this year. El Nino has ended and La Nina is getting going; the latter is associated with a more active hurricane season. Combine that with warmer sea temps and the ingredients are there for a lively season.

I know you're being sarcastic, but property taxes and insurance could be up to 20% of your mortgage payment in Florida. Sure, no income state taxes, but that looks like a tax increase even if you don't give it directly to the government. Also, factor in that in south Florida it is not uncommon for people to allocate 50% or more of income towards rent/mortgage, which means that you are paying an effective 10% tax for the luxury of living near a disaster area.
