While all of the other "Cups" are operated offline and get their own (fairly regular) writeups, the Statler & Waldorf is run on the system and rarely gets mentioned. With GW33 complete and just 5 weeks to go, here is the table: Starboy ---------- 23-2-8 (71 points, 1848) Aviators ---------- 23-2-8 (71 points, 1745) blechs_dawgs -- 22-3-8 (69 points, 1634) ColdDogSoup -- 21-0-12 (63 points, 1616) Morning glory --- 20-0-13 (60 points, 1476) Sasha Juniors -- 18-2-13 (56 points, 1588) Journeymen ----- 18-1-14 (55 points, 1819) Living in Drea... - 18-1-14 (55 points, 1509) **It is tight at the top with only 2 points separating the top 3 (all 3 currently have just 8 losses!). With only 5 GWs left, anyone with less than 56 can no longer catch the top two teams, and anyone with less than 54 can no longer finish in the top 3. (So, fyi, I drew the line for the table at 54 points, which leaves 8 teams at this point still mathematically alive for a top 3 spot). **The table shows the potential randomness of this head-to-head format. Journeymen (1819) is in 2nd overall and in the top 3 group that laps the field. But they are on the brink of being mathematically eliminated in this competition with multiple weeks still to play. By contrast, Morning glory currently sits #12 in the table but holding onto 5th place here. Similarly, Morning glory takes a close loss by 4-points, and will now be hardpressed to get to the podium, while Journeymen stays alive with the win but still has its work cut out. With gw35 & gw36 in the books, here is a latest look at the Statler & Waldorf Cup updated table through gw36: Starboy ---------- 26-2-8 (80 points, 2063) Aviators ---------- 25-2-9 (77 points, 1964) ColdDogSoup -- 24-0-12 (72 points, 1821) blechs_dawgs -- 22-3-11 (69 points, 1794) Morning glory --- 22-0-14 (66 points, 1666) It's 2 wins in gw35 and gw36 for Starboy, ColdDogSoup, and Morning Glory. Aviators goes 1-1 and loses critical ground, while dawgs go 0-2 to drop off the podium. (Journeymen also went 1-1, but has had hopes for the podium ended by virtue of CDS's strong form). Reminder that the first tie breaker appears to be total points. So, Aviators likely needs to win out and see Starboy lose out as it's unlikely to flip a 99-point deficit in 2 weeks should they end up tied. But, we'll see. On the plus side for Aviators, the schedule pits Aviators against Starboy this week!!!! So, a dramatic head to head between the S&W leaders as we near the finish line. The dawgs are in a similar situation to Aviators as they now trail CDS by 3 points, but the 27-point differential on the tiebreaker is not quite so insurmountable. CDS plays The Javelinas and then Starboy, while dawgs face Borussia DM and Sasha Jrs. Also, while CDS is perhaps focused primarily on the dawgs, if Starboy wins this week's showdown and CDS wins this week as well, CDS will be 2 points behind Aviators and have a shot at moving to second place! I've left Morning Glory on the list as it is mathematically possible to catch CDS and dawgs, but it really isn't..... Morning will need to win the last 2 games and have CDS lose the last 2 games AND outscore CDS in the 2 weeks by 155 points, and even then could still need more help as the dawgs could still be in the mix. With gw37 completed, Starboy has clinched the Statler & Waldorf Cup, with 2nd and 3rd still up for grabs: Starboy ---------- 27-2-8 (83 points, 2180) Aviators ---------- 25-2-10 (77 points, 2038) ColdDogSoup -- 25-0-12 (75 points, 1914) blechs_dawgs -- 23-3-11 (72 points, 1885) Starboy was head-to-head with Aviators, and prevailed 117 to 74 with yet another gold medal performance to clinch the S&W. Cold Dog Soup and blechs_dawgs both won. Aviators loss opens up a path for CDS to get to 2nd, while CDS could also still drop off the podium entirely, although the dawgs need to make up 29 in total points differential in addition to having wins and losses break the right way. Morning Glory dropped out of top 3 contention with a loss and with CDS's win. In GW38's prime matchup, it's Starboy vs CDS, with Starboy noting that they can't take it easy even if they wanted to given everything else that is on the line in GW38: "Seasons like this don't come around often. With only GW38 still to be played, more pieces have begun to fall into place, and lots is clinched as a practical matter (such as all of the division winners (Journeymen, Aviators, Starboy XI)) but I'll hold off on inclusion of those for now since we can't rule out the improbable possibility of someone scoring 500 points (or something more nefarious such as Glorydaze suggested yesterday...) Confirmed spots that have been added in this update are in green, while teams in contention for spots are noted in blue (to be finalized after the weekend!). In the League Cups that I can access, ColdDogSoup FC won All Rocks and blechs_dawgs won Small. The final posted scores along with a little "Cup" from the FPL site: As far as I know, VSR and Sand were not set up to run the end of season Cup. Let me know if that's not the case. Sand did run a head-to-head league. In addition to finishing 1st in the standings with the head-to-head running through GW35, Starboy also ran the table on the 3 weeks of single elimination playoffs to claim the title.
