He seems to have preferred pics that gave him rugged good looks to the ones that looked mean, so: The all tough team carries three centers, all rough contemporaries: Concrete Charlie, Otto, and The Great Pumpkin, EJ Holub. Three spots, and Mike Webster still doesn't make the team...
Would not have bet on him to make it to 86. Also, note how his face mask and that of Daryle Lamonica is pretty much identical. You don't see that any more.
Richard Sherman, 95 (not the ex football player.). He was co writer of possibly the most tortuous song ever written, It’s a Small World.
“Hall Of Famer Bill Walton Passed Away Monday After Long Bout With Cancer” (SI.com - Monday, 5/27/24)
Hated who he played for but loved he was a cyclist and dead head. Truly a lovely man from everything I’ve seen and heard from him
Rufus Parnell "Parnelli" Jones - 90 Parnelli Jones 1933-2024 Won the Indy 500 as an owner and driver, nearly won as a driver in 1967 with a turbine car whose engine became the template for an extremely popular design for turboprop engine planes.
Really, you didn't see it much after the early 80s, maybe? I mean, there were still QBs and punters who wore the two-bar masks, but most of the linemen had been done with them before then. The old 1969 General Tire NFL poster shows Buck Buchanan wearing a birdcage, for example.
I had a big picture of Mean Joe Greene on my wall. Birdcage mask, c. 1972 or so. I had this kind when I played 7th, 8th, and 9th grade football: For sophomore and JV, I got my first Mean Joe Greene style face mask. Alas, it did nothing to improve my game.
Note the shoes. Imagine being one of those guys who plays above the rim. Now imagine your knees after a few seasons of that.
Johnny Canales 76 Tejano singer and TV host. I used to like watching El Show de Johnny Canales in the 90s, first on Univision and then when it moved to Telemundo. Entertaining just for the way he would mix Spanish and English when introducing musical guests. “VAMANOS! YOU GOT IT! TAKE IT AWAY!”
Missed this one Mark James - 83 (November 29, 1940 – June 8, 2024) Wrote "Suspicious Minds", "Hooked On A Feeling", and collaborated on "Always On My Mind" among other songs.

So sad. Vinny Mauro was a great referee! I recall how happy he was that he got to call games at Italia 90. RIP!
