If its free, do you have to "have" Season Pass? Can't you just click on the link on the Apple+ app and watch the free games? Otherwise what is the point of the "free" MLS games they have each week?

Depends what that meant by "free". Free for all? Free for members?

Everything is free for members. If I subscribe to MLS Season Pass all the games are "free" after that. When they say a particular game is "free" that must mean that you can see it without a subscription. Otherwise, "free" doesn't mean anything.

In the streaming universe "free" does sometimes mean nothing, but I do understand what you mean in the context of Apple.

I have heard people say "this movie comes free with Netflix", which as you explained is a nonsense statement, yet one that's regularly made.

We have 1.5 years of experience of what the free games mean on Season Pass. No subscription required, just the Apple ID login.

Kartik is a top tier MLS hater these days so if he crosses over, we've already won. It would be like WST praising MLS.

They’ll find something to complain about. They were angry because Ben Olsen said that the USL Championship is a second division.

Isn’t it technically on Android phones? There’s no app, but can’t Droid users access via their browser.

He also has some conspiracy theory type political views. I can’t remember if he’s a right wing wacko or a left wing wacko, but I’m pretty sure (not positive!) it’s one or the other.

It is because of services like Prime.

There, you have to pay for some movies/shows, even if you are a subscriber or Prime Member.

Other services, everything is "free" once you pay the subscription (MAX, Netflix, Paramount+, etc.

The true free services are PlutoTV and RokuTV and such.

It has to be not much, or MLS would have shouted it from the rooftops.

Yup. And that’s been clear to me for a few years now.

It could be a lot better: compared to what we have now with fragmented streaming platforms, and compared to what we had before with the old Cable TV/DVR model. And with aggregate cost.

but it has a ways to go.

    That's a great graphic.
    Screenshot_20240526_225833_Chrome.jpg

Question is, will the RSNs go away? Because I'm guessing that's where most people still watch their majority of their local team's games. Are any of the streaming games simulcast on the RSNs?

Imagine if one day you have to watch Netflix to see your local MLB team and the next day its Peacock and the next its ESPN+.

Except you can use a web browser ... I know, because I do that on my Android phone.

Yes ... but people bitch "not an app though" despite it being the exact thing they do with other stuff on their laptop/PC/tablet.

Kind of like that already ...
