The 96 season was definitely a low, but when I look back on that season, it will always be the year my childhood dream came true and I finally had a "major league" pro soccer team in my own backyard. And like you said, that team had a chance to make the playoffs on the last day of the season. The Revs this year will need to go on a tear to give themselves that kind of chance. If they turn things around that dramatically, I'll reevaluate my position.

 

1996 was special, despite our on-field results. Having a local team to see live was something new, something I never took for granted. Since there were only 10 teams, there were a lot of major cities that didn't have what we had, crap team and all. Our first PoCM issue had the headline of "The start of something big" and that still holds true today.

 

Your lowest point can't come in year one. There's nothing to compare it to, for one, but beyond that the first season was fun and weird, as noted by a bunch of other posters. Plus with eight out of ten teams making the playoffs we were right int he mix until the last game of the season.

The lowest of lows have to come from the end of Nicol's era or Friedel's tenure. Joe Public at home is a singular moment for a team that ended up making the playoffs, but I can't help but think that was the low point that showed us all how bad things would get over the next couple years.

 

Agree with the general sentiment that 1996 can’t be the low point, but it was still frustrating, and I guess a portent of things to come. I still haven’t forgiven Mark Watson for being such a bonehead.

I’d put in a plug for 2017, with the 7-0 loss at Atlanta, the general rudderlessness, Tom Soehn’s uninspiring run as a caretaker, etc.

The Friedel era sucked, but there were at least some bright spots and some reasons for optimism with Carles, Tajon and Dejuan, Turner, etc. In 2017 there wasn’t even the faintest glimmer of hope to latch onto. Team just sucked and was going nowhere fast.

 

Revs are tied with MIN and DAL for fewest games played (13). After tomorrow (thanks to the rescheduled CLB game), Revs will be alone in that category.

Nashville travels to CIN tomorrow before hosting the Revs this Saturday.

 

Ah, so we'll be well rested! That's got to be a good sign that this team is ready to gel!

 

Not Revs related but I just realized who is married to Jrue Holiday.

 

Yeah, and he credits her with improving his mentality as an athlete!

Years ago, I was confused as to where this 'Lauren Holiday' came from suddenly (just when Lauren Cheney disappeared).

 

There is a pretty good episode of "Kickin' It" on Paramount Plus where they interview Lauren Holiday.

Pretty good interviews with Landon, Matt Turner, Carli Lloyd, Jozy, Jesse Marsch, Jermaine Jones, Tony Meola, and a few others.

 

All Star voting is open. Safe to say their won't be any Revs in this year's game.

I may vote anyway, just to be able to cast a ballot that does NOT have Messi on it...

Random stat of the day:

Thirteen games into the season, the Revs don't have a single player with two assists. Seven players are tied for the team lead with one each.

 

And that is with Carles Gil being second in the league in key passes at 47 (Lucian Acosta leads with 54 but also has 10 assists)

Every team in MLS has played at least 2 matches against the opposite conference, except the Revs, who have played none. Their first game against the Western Conference is June 15th when they host Vancouver.

So they reached a settlement to avoid a lawsuit. Bruce resigns, all is swept under the rug and 6 months later Bruce can coach again. Ugh. The whole thing wreaks of pettiness. Have a feeling Bruce wants to coach again to deliver an f--- you to a few folks - likely some who go to work in Foxboro still.

 

Well, he says he "hasn't spoken to" any of the Revs management since the whole thing ended, so even if he can't comment, you can bet he isn't on such great terms. And if he gets another coaching gig (which seems likely) you just know it will come back to bite us!

 

Yeah I found that comment to be really interesting. Normally, former players and coaches always thank the Kraft family profusely, regardless of how things ended. Bruce not only pointed out the lack of communication but seemed especially open to talking about things publicly at the right time, when he was legally able to.

 

But that time is never going to come. The gag clause is very unlikely to have any termination date, so that’s kind of a throwaway line from Arena.
