We have not given them many real clear cut chances. Defended well and been pretty tenacious until the end. Encouraging. 4-0 win. Pretty much the perfect start.
especially considering he played minutes for Spurs first team just 2 days ago and then had to fly out to Cyprus late to join up with the squad
An impressive first victory at the #U17EURO finals for our #YoungLions! 👏 pic.twitter.com/jLHX5mD8JZ— England (@England) May 21, 2024
Probably one of the strongest performances at this level in years in terms of score and the level of opposition,
Next up Portugal on Friday at the same time as tonight. They beat Spain 2-1 in the other game in our group. What a huge day of #U17EURO action ⚡️ pic.twitter.com/0Ujq9P0K8B— UEFA U17 EURO (@UEFAUnder21) May 21, 2024
I think the system is fluid once we have the ball or should I say when Noble has possession. I’ve seen all I need to see from Noble, what a player - he manipulates the play like a 1970s sweeper.
France were disappointing. The number 10 looked good but they lacked the real quality individuals in attacking positions.
True but Rigg got sent off in the 25th minute in that game. If you break the game into two halves we won the second 1-0 with 10 men.
Kian Noble had a solid game. Might have gone a bit unnoticed yesterday but he was doing so much talking and organising at every corner/set-piece, can see why he's captain.
Roverman will be happy to know that the pesky Welsh are officially OUT of the u17 Euros. Two games and two defeats. 5 conceded and no goals scored. Think their best player Elliot Myles is English, not sure how many more in the squad are.
Tough game for England today, will be an interesting benchmark for the side. Portugals team has had very, very good form. They've beaten England, Spain x 2, Netherlands x 3, and Germany (knocking them out the Euros) out of the traditional heavyweights this cycle. Indeed the only games they haven't won were in the Algarve tournament (and a double friendly against Finland in January, which I can only assume was not their normal team).
agreed. they have very dangerous wingers who were absolutely outstanding in that recent tournament with England.
They're referring to France beating us 2-1 a couple of months ago. Moore and Lacey were injured and Rigg was sent off in the 25 minute. I think Lacey would be on the bench in this team though, with Nwaneri dropping down after the u19 flop.
Ah course I didn't even read that properly, nice one. Agree about Lacey, would be great to have off the bench but certainly wouldn't be a guaranteed starter like Moore or Nwaneri.
yeah, they might even still be on YouTube somewhere. England were actually 2-0 up in that game and Portugal rallied back
