His dad is from Guam. But I don’t think he was born there. But of course he did play for the national team
For those who don’t know, my dad was the first president of the Guam soccer Federation when they joined FIFA, and my sister was captain of the women’s team for many years.
That is exactly spot on. My sister turned 50 last year and is playing her final season in a men's league in Orlando right now. Final season because this fall she is gonna get knee replacement surgery from all the soccer injuries over the years and won't be allowed to play anymore.
A former coworker of mine is in her early late 60s/early 70s. Was on the UCLA women's soccer and basketball teams and still plays both sports to this day! She's also still competes in ultramarathons. She had an ACL injury a few years back and it was hard on her thinking that she wouldn't be able to play basketball or soccer again. However, she's recovered and still at it. Best of luck to your sister and hope she'll still be able to play at some level.
Former SKC player Roger Espinoza also playing with the Des Moines Menace in the Open Cup game against Union Omaha. Sacha's been recruiting! AJ is having fun with this. I hear Omaha is lovely for Spring Break! When everyone asks where I’m going for my daughters spring break this week… @MenaceSoccer94 vs. @Union_Omaha for @opencup. pic.twitter.com/2r74pbTjzv— AJ DeLaGarza (@AJD_20) March 31, 2024

If you don't want to watch the Galaxy of the past (aka Des Moines Menace) at 7:30 pm tonight, you can watch the Galaxy of the present/future (aka Ventura County FC), either in person at Dignity Health Track and Field Stadium or streaming at this link, at 7:30 pm Who’s up for Round 2? 🔥🔥#VCFC | @opencup pic.twitter.com/2jUzYngir3— VCFC (@vcfcmlsnp) April 2, 2024
Actually, that Menace game started at 5:30 (7:30 Central). The Menace are down 1-0 at halftime. AJ looks decent. Euan Holden is dragging. The General Manager is on the bench because they don't have enough players. It's US Open Cup at its finest.
16 minutes in and VCFC is down a man as Schelotto gets a straight red for a studs up challenge. I'm sure his dad would be proud! No Ferkranus, Perez, or Cuevas and Parente is on the bench. And now they are playing with 10
Down 1-0. Irvine Zeta delivers a cross that Essengue swings and misses on and an unmarked man on the back post shoots it to the roof over Brady Scott.
Irvine Zeta 2 - VCFC 0 Too many mistakes and missed chances for the VCFC to overcome the man advantage. Lepley just barely missed a left footed shot a few minutes before this goal was scored.
They say you die two deaths. The first when you die and then again when your name is said for the last time.
It does seem like a phrase that likely exists across time and culture. This specific iteration is by Irvin Yallom.
Let's see - my youngest grandchild is 5. That likely puts my second death 80 or 90 years from now. Of course that’s assuming various legal registries and restraining orders have expired by then.
It’s possible with the advent of these massive LLMs fewer and fewer people will ever die a second time. Heat death of the universe aside.
