lets not to be hasty now, hard to judge Charlotte when they play a middling team like the Galaxy I love the Charlotte Purple with Light Blue so I may have a soft spot for the team visually.
I liked when Aude blocked Dejan’s shot. If your LB goes forward into the box it should be with purpose, not to wander around getting in the way.
Someone help me understand. I know MLS Season Pass, for some crazy reason, spoils the scores of MLS matches as a default setting. So you have to go in and turn that feature off if you're one of those psychos that doesn't want to know the score of a match before they watch it. I even know that you have to toggle that feature off on EVERY DEVICE YOU USE TO ACCESS YOUR SEASON PASS. I know all of that and have planned accordingly. Spent the day visiting family and, knowing in advance I couldn't catch the match live, I brought my laptop for the singular purpose of watching the replay later. Except for whatever reason I couldn't get on the wifi and had to borrow someone's laptop to watch the match. Well, guess what happened? It's almost like a quick-time event, where you have to scramble to get to the settings menu while Apple bombards you with scores and hope you get to it before the match you care about comes up. Have we discussed why this exists? I'm no UI expert, but as a consumer I feel punished for not watching live. So I get it -- they want to maximize live viewing numbers but, at what cost man. This feels very adversarial to the consumer, ha ha. Is it just me, am I bellyaching?
it’s not you. It’s a very poor design by whoever built the UI. Most other platforms make it much easier to avoid seeing spoilers.* *As I say this I remember ESPN always tickers the final score of the game you are watching if you watch any of their condensed game replays. Before I got YoutubeTv (which automatically records all NBA games for me) I remember many a night I would turn on the TV late to catch a game and then turn it off in disgust after being flashed the outcome of the game I was watching.
Update: Despite $18 mil worth of wingers we have scored an average of exactly 0.8 goals/gm over our last five matches.
Also very annoying that the past games are placed at the very bottom of the main page. So even if you've turned off the scores, you have to scroll past all the goal highlights and other crap before you can get to the past games. Very annoying. Then once you click on a past game, instead of having the Highlights and Full Replay options on the same page, it only has the Highlights. To top of it, there is no indication on the page to tell you to press down for more options and to access the full replay.
Yes, exactly! And even when you do find the game, they offer you the recap first. You still have to scroll to find the replay. Like -- the app knows I haven't watched the match. Does it assume I never want to watch if I didn't watch it live? There's clear contempt for people that want to watch full replays.
Welp, a tie is better than a loss, I suppose. And that is exactly how Charlotte has been winning this season - give up nothing, make the game boring and clogged and then nick a winning goal. So at least we didn't give them that. We now have 4 of the next 5 games at home. So all these road ties will end up being a good thing if we win all these home games. But we gotta win the home games. They look winnable as we play 3 teams below us in the standings and the only team above us (NYFC) has the long travel. And then our road game is against Chicago and they've been horrible. So this 5-game stretch is gonna be key.
I had landed and was in the hotel already. But then I had to head out and missed the second half live.
Four of them on the road. I’m not too concerned about this stretch. season trajectory will be determined over the next five very winnable games (4 at home). Would like to see 10+ points. this won’t help INJURY UPDATE: Joseph Paintsil has a Hamstring strain. Out a "few" weeks per Greg Vanney. Says while it's not a big strain, it's a signficant straing. Will now get a chance to rest after playing close to 42 games this year (In MLS and in Belgium)#LAGalaxy #MLS— Corner Of The Galaxy (@GalaxyPodcast) May 19, 2024
Perhaps, but I think we're much more balanced with Diego and one of our two DP Wingers on the pitch. Yea I think Paintsil's speed makes him a much more dangerous asset, but for some reason we haven't figured out a playstyle that really works with both Pec and Paintsil on the Pitch.
This stretch of missed points could come back at the end to haunt a little bit. What gets me is that its not like we had very little chance of winning any of these away matches. We were close and were in fact winning one. the ties at home I wont even comment on. We are the team with the most ties in the entire league with 7 other than St Loui and they aren't doing so hot in 9th place. If we don't start winning at home, the season will continue to slide away from us. There is reason to worry. I had said we lost Paint but that was figuratively speaking, now we literally have lost him to injury. Our biggest threat in offense (his recent downturn not withstanding.) At least there was a chance of him snapping out of his funk. This "few" weeks could turn into 2 months. They said a "few" weeks back when Puig got hurt also and how did that turn out? the rest of his season pretty much. The high earners and DPs have to step up. No more Paintsil for a while. They have to step up to the Puig level. If it's your job is to defend, do it well. If it's to score, then score. How many clear chances to score were wasted this past week alone? A LOT! We can't compete missing clear chances and what look like tap-ins. Yeah, I'm concerned.
For the sake of the season I hope you are right and that this setup sans Paint will work effectively to give us wins. Right now the scoring of both Pec and Diego combined are just 1 goal above Paintsil's 4 goals even with Joe's recent slump and together they cant beat Paint's 5 assists. Again, I hope your vision comes to be. We need those wins.
Only two losses so far this year. That’s the flip side. I agree wins are critical but after last year I’ll take a team that doesn’t lose much in a road heavy start to the year.
Tks for ranting so I don't havta. If somebody wants the score just go to MLS site and get your score. Don't spoil it for everybody else who tuned in to watch the game. Nobody tunes into Apple TV to get scores. They are there to watch the game and the great thing about streaming is that you get to pick up games late or on replay etc. and you don't need to know the score in advance to watch the game ffs.
Highlight Time Folks I am glad that we are not losing but I am irritated that we are not winning. Now that we are going to be without Paintsil who does need the rest, we are going to need some others to start getting those assists he was earning. Okay on to the next fight against Houston.
I think both things are true at the same time with this team so far. Watching the games, we are underperforming, and Vanney is not getting the most out of his players. But when just looking at the results on paper, we are doing quite well. Honestly, with only 5 home games compared to 9 road games, we are just that 1 tie vs. St. Louis at home from having just about the best results you could ask for after 14 games in. Turn that St. Louis tie into a win, and we sit tied for 2nd in the West with 4 out of 5 coming up at home, and with the 2 ties at home coming against the top teams in both conferences. So I think we are both playing poorly AND getting good results. The fact is we have the talent and potential to be first in the West right now, even with all the road games, which makes it very frustrating to be 4th. And just when we were getting healthy and about to have the whole team available, we lose Paintsil for a couple weeks.... But we do have 4 home games in the next 3 1/2 weeks, 3 of which are teams below us in the standings, and a road game vs. the second-to-last team in the east. So after this swing of 5 games we will almost have even home and away numbers and can really judge where this team sits. I just hope we can figure out how to defend set pieces....
Bruce also had the team tying a lot in his first half-season with the Galaxy. I remember being annoyed at the time (I was very opposed to Arena’s appointment). I think the difference is, Bruce was building from the back and creating a team that was difficult to score on. It’s been too long to accurately remember the score lines in those games, but perceptually it didn’t feel like we’d go down 2-0 and have to storm back to 2-2. I say that because the previous few years had been the swashbuckling “we’ll give up 2-3 goals, but score 3-4”. Of course the reality was more often than not we’d give up 3-5 and score 2-4.
Yep the Bruce years had the team being hard to score on with the ability to win by 1 goal. The current team is hard to score on not counting the set piece but requires at least 2 goals to ensure a win. Vanney is Bruce-Lite and that is being generous.
The @MLS Disciplinary Committee has fined @LAGalaxy midfielder Riqui Puig an undisclosed amount for violating the Hands to the Face/Head/Neck of an Opponent Policy with in the 21st minute of LA’s match against Charlotte FC on May 18— Kevin Baxter 🇺🇦🏳️🌈 (@kbaxter11) May 22, 2024
I actually think it might have been the 2009 season where we started with tons of ties. I think it we may have had 9 of them in the first half of the year. We of course were MLS cup runner up that year.
