Alejandro Zendejas at Club America

Zendejas has been in such fantastic form for the last ~6 months or so. He's unsung on BS, and his stint in the Gold Cup last year was very poor, but he's so hot right now. As well as he's been playing, I think it would be a pretty big snub if he didn't make the roster for the pre-Copa friendlies.

 

How many roster spots do we have? The competition is thick at CM with TMMARCDLTBA.

 

He has played as a CM, but far more often as a winger or wide forward. Something akin to what Pulisic plays.

 

His lack of pace may hold him back at the international level on the wing.

 

Zendejas with the start against Pachuca in the CCC semis. ASSIST for Zendejas with a perfect chipped pass to the open man at the back post, but Pachuca had already scored twice so it’s 3-2 Pachuca aggregate now.

 

He's quick, not really fast, very small but strong and fairly skilled. Not sure how all of that works out internationally and we see the Mexican national team struggle at times with a lot of similar players. Possibly his biggest problem with the US is his style being quite different than his teammates.

Subbed off in the 75th minute, though, as they get desperate to avoid the upset and crash out in yet another competition to Pachuca.

 

94th minute equalizer by Quinones makes it 2-2 aggregate, and because of the "ties go to the better team" natura of the Liga MX playoffs ... Club America go from out to advancing all at once. Pachuca fans appear to be whining about a bad out of bounds call 110 yards from goal 35 seconds before the goal, acting as if it is one of history's great injustices. Um, nope.

Zendejas' season continues as he warms up to being the last man left off the Copa America roster.
