I always felt we needed a thread that plays around "The lost talents thread: Players who did not realize their potential." Germany is a country that has loads of late bloomer players. Its interesting to track down the progress of such players. if one looks at current SNT we have numerous late bloomers in there too. This thread is to mostly focus on the once promising players who aren't far off from 1BL level and who got derailed by whatever during their careers and reason why they aren't in 1BL. One can also bring up their progress when they do reach 1BL. Can also bring up guys who weren't that promising when younger but then made huge jumps aka the players who emulate the Undav, Gross, Andrich etc. for example, the once HIGHLY RATED, German CFs of 98-J.Eggestein got promoted to 1BL with Pauli 00-Arp got promoted to 1BL with Kiel. so both fit this and both going to 1BL next season too!!!

01 M/W Pohlmann was once a highly rated player at Wolfsburg but since Wolfsburg has 0 integration even more so after axing their II team. He went to Dortmund II in 3rd Liga and for stupid reasons he stayed there for 3 years......more like Dortmund gave him pro contract and kept him around just to be back up player.......Made his 1BL debut this season with 2 caps and heavily linked with 1BL Bremen transfer too.

Spent 2 years trying to fully breakthrough Mainz, then got loaned out to failed 1 year loan to S04. So was loaned out in Winter to EB. looks like a player who just needs that full season of XI to really breakthrough.

He's 1st German 00-onwards GK who made relevant pro debut as he made debut in 1BL. but constant injury issues which also screwed a loan+Bremen screwing him over and being petty towards him....ended up derailing his career. last season was Eredivisie bench GK and this season is his 1st ever pro XI full season as a player too. curious if he'll go higher in Summer and be on track for grand comeback.
01 CB Gaal, was well rated at Gladbach but that club has piss poor track record and don't loan out anyone who doesn't have pro contract. in his last U19 season, he and his sadly deceased CB partner 01 CB Bongard were seen as like one of best CB Pairing in U19 West too. he did well whenever he played Gladbach 1st friendlies too. wasted too much time in RL and finally jumped to pros in Summer 2023 where he established himself as regular XI as Ulm won 3rd Liga and got 2BL Promotion. So will play 2BL next season too. Good for him, only his 2nd pro season=already in 2BL. he's not the only Ulm player who used to have some hype -01 M Brandt used to have a lot of hype at Wolfsburg and then Pauli and was never given chance for real at either. Wolfsburg once they axed their II team that killed any chances there. -99 LB Rosch....used to be AM/W used to have some hype at 1BL Augsburg but outside of 1BL debut was never given any chances. so Gaal+Brandt+Rosch=2BL next season for 1st time for 3/3 these are examples of issue with Germany footy. Keeping players around in RL/II for years and years. they 100% get screwed over -they get 1st team training here and there+friendlies -the clubs deems jump tooooo big to 1BL -instead of loaning them out they keep them around and deceive them with "1st chances aka training" but its more about boosting the II teams than serious chances how many years do soooooooooooooooo many players waste because of these things? HUGE AMOUNT of them. like if the jump to 1BL is too big....LOAN them out to close the gap but too many clubs barely/rarely loan out anyone. worst is this crazy habit of German clubs aka the INABILITY of letting players go. They always want to extend with these type of players instead of letting them make career progress so they push for extensions just too boost II and those players being super attached to the clubs end up getting convinced..........German footy has HUGE issue of German players loyal to clubs and clubs screwing over players for that loyalty.

So this season played his 1st ever 2BL season and he's done well by what's being said by those who watch him. and now looking like he could go to 1BL level......
01 M Michel looks to be moving to 2BL Magdeburg. guy can't help himself and fixation to play non-stop 1BL Academies from Freiburg U19 to Stuttgart II to Dortmund II, LOL. I recall he played friendlies for both Stuttgart+Dortmund 1st teams but was never gonna make 1st team for realz for either. well now he finally bails from 3rd Liga-RL level.
99 CB/DM Papadopoulos who has 2 1BL caps for Dortmund this season is linked with 2BL, Eredivisie, Greek 1st division. been stuck in that 3rd Liga level for sooooo long. Like Pohlmann, Dortmund deceived him with pro contract just to keep him around but no real 1st prospects either.

All he needed is 1 hit season to return to relevant pros. this guy believe from 2018-Summer 2023 is basically him being injured ALL the time......yeah he spent like 4 seasons out of 5 full of injury issues even being injured all of last season.

I recall he impressed a lot in UEFA Youth League as Hoffenheim made historic SF Run. Also trained/friendlies a lot with 1st team but never given any real chances. the Kiel coach Rapp is also ex Hoffenheim U19 coach the same one who did the SF Run its why this transfer happened, he knows the player well. Its also been said that he had excellent season in 3rd Liga too. this season in 3rd Liga was also his 1st ever pro season and now jumping to 1BL.

His issue is that he's been stuck in 3rd Liga for like 5 years, first helping Bayern II to historic 3rd Liga Championship and the moving to Dynamo a 3rd Liga staple for 4 years....why so much loyalty???? a player who should have been in 2BL 1-2 years ago MAX too.
