Taylor Booth assist... if he starts playing well it's tough to see him not making the roster

Isn't the season over now? I like Booth a lot but injuries have certainly hurt his chances at making the Paris squad. We shall see.

We should Def have busio and Tessmann pairing at the olympic. These guys know each other. You can't get any better than them

If you were to buy the argument that Booth's fitness is just too dicey, who would you take instead? I guess Busio is better than Cowell but Cowell would give us a burst of width.

Aidan is hard to play against; he plays well against the ball high up the pitch and has a good shot on goal or he can move to the end line for a cutback when he pries the ball loose. I think if we are moving the ball up the pitch well but having a hard time cracking the safe, we put Morris on to make something happen in the attacking end.

Add in Reynolds and Yow who play on the right side together and that could be four starters where two play together and not just on the same team but in close proximity.

    I've been saying that too...

    Teammates:
    Tessmann and Busio (Venezia)
McGlynn and Sullivan and Harriel and PAaronson (Philly 2.0)
    Schulte and Morris (Crew)
    Trusty and McKenzie (Philly 1.0)
Pepi and Tessmann and Reynolds? (FCD) Not sure about overlap...
    Yow and Reynolds (Westerlo)
    Yow and Paredes (DC)
Slonina and Gutierrez (Fire)... prob doesn't really matter tbh
Taylor Booth has overlap with Malik Tillman (Bayern) if they chose to send him...

I don't think you can get both Tessmann-Busio and McGlynn-Sullivan into the roster... I've had Sullivan recently but maybe that should be Busio.

Here's a radical idea: Neal is barely back and Vazquez isn't doing much lately... so I'm replacing them with McKenzie (for three overage CBs lol) and Pepi... that's a lot of teammates!

    Olympics (18, 3 o)
    GK: Schulte, Slonina
    FB: Reynolds, Harriel, Tolkin
    CB: Zimmerman (o), Trusty (o), McKenzie (o)
M: A Morris, Tessmann, McGlynn, Busio OR Sullivan
W: Paredes, P Aaronson, Luna, Yow
    F: Pepi, McGwire

Cowell should be 3rd or 4th back up. And Booth not on a roster yet either.

Cowell seems like the one playing himself off the team.

Diego Luna is playing himself on.

On a roster that has so few players, its hard to even fit in Booth.

We're taking Paredes for sure. Yow seems to be on the team.
Paxten Aaronson has been involved all along.

So its just hard to even find a place for Booth.

We basically have 15 age eligible guys (not counting CA roster eg MTillman or off the radar eg KLDF) for 6 winger / non-defensive midfielder spots, and if these players make it:

Paredes, Luna, PAaronson, McGlynn, Busio, Yow

The guys NOT making the roster I would rank like this in terms of probability they DO make the roster over one of those six:

Booth, Sullivan, Bassett, Cowell, Cremaschi, Kamungo, Gutierrez, AJackson, Buck lol

The reason for Cowell is pure pace. This isn't the fastest group without him, especially with Wiley looking unlikely. Reynolds is like the only guy I'd say is outright fast if there's no Cowell and no Wiley and no Kamungo.

I'd rather have Wiley. Cowell hits the wall when he is playing against above average defender, and that's what he will face there. He has exactly one move cutting to the right and shooting, and can dominate physically at youth level. I also suspect Yow is faster than we think. Paredes is also fast.

I would have Cowell and Booth on my roster.

Paredes should be utilized as a left wing back not as a left winger. When is the last time he played well for any of our youth teams? He didn't play well at the 2022 U20 World Cup and was underwhelming against France's U23s.

Cowell is a tough one to leave off.

I mean, he was playing at Chivas. Its not like he was rotting on the bench.

And if we have an injury to one of McGuire or Vazquez (for the sake of argument) at the event, Cowell can serve as a forward too. Pace, pace, pace up top.

He's been involved all along, but he's been coming off the bench. He came off the bench against France, Guinea, and Morocco in our last three games. If there's a guy on the bubble, it might be him.

If I'm going to put Luna on the roster based on his play with RSL, I have to take somebody off. For me right now that's Cowell.

But I've been chancing my mind of a weekly basis, so there's that.

Yeah I mean there's a pretty straightforward case for why you might include Cowell in a tournament roster -- he's a versatile attacker whose physical profile worries defenders and can be relied upon to generate multiple chances, come what may, in pretty much any amount of time he's on the field. On a short roster, depending on who else is there, you could obviously say you don't need or have space for that, but that's a thing that has value!

It’s unclear what clubs will release players for it but we do also get to take four alternates (who can replace an injured player at any point in the tournament but the injured player can’t come back once replaced).

Paredes has okay pace. I wouldn’t call him outright fast. Yow has definitely gotten faster the last year, but went from slow to average pace.

Wiley is an option, but the difference between him and Cowell is positionally. Are we really taking a second LB when we might be taking a RB that can play LB, a CB that can play LB, and a winger that can play LB? It’d seem like LB is covered and with the limited spots it’d be better to select a player from another position.

Re 4 alternates: Maybe Dietz, Vargas/Atencio, Sullivan/Bassett... not sure who a good alternate forward would be, slim pickings... maybe Kahveh Zahiroleslam?

Almost seems beneath Taylor Booth if he doesn't make the roster...

Tolkin is almost certainly making the roster so there's no way Wiley is making it, because there will only be three fullbacks and Harriel can back up both sides unlike Wiley, plus Paredes can also play left back if he has to...

I forgot Esmir, and a few others... kind of crazy that Esmir Kamungo and Aziel Jackson are the guys along with Cowell who got January Camp call ups just a few months ago... how quickly things change.

6 on: Paredes Luna Busio PAaronson McGlynn Yow

12 off: Booth, Sullivan, Bassett, Cowell, Cremaschi, EsmirB, Kamungo, Gutierrez, TedKDP, AJackson, Tsakiris, Buck

One of the alternates has to be a goalie. And it’s functionally the same thing as being the 3rd keeper, though unclear if Chicago will release him for that.

I do think who gets picked as an alternate will be very driven by who can get released.
