Lots of "drama" in Revs land More drama from Saturday night after the #NERevs lost to #DOOP:-Team owner Jonathan Kraft was said to be looking for head coach Caleb Porter after the match Saturday. Porter is said to have avoided meeting with Jonathan. Unclear if they met today. -Players and coaches were…— Tommy Quinlan (@TommyQuinlan_IV) May 20, 2024
Well, Porter yelling at Spaulding would be expected, since he took a stupid red card that set the tone for the night. But it does seem like he's losing the locker room, if he hasn't already. The sad thing is, this is a decent team. Most fans realistically expected the Revs to be in the top 1/3 of the league, the only question being is if they'd be favored in the first-round playoffs. Now, even with a Messi-like turnaround, they won't even make the playoffs. Last year, despite winning almost all of their games after Messi, Miami was in such a hole from the start that they missed out. Not that the Revs are even close to signing anyone decent this summer...
Former MLS manager looking to get back into coaching. Wayne Rooney is a candidate to become Plymouth Argyle’s new head coach.More from @RichardAmofa & @TBurrows16 ⬇️https://t.co/b5BEDT12sJ— The Athletic | Football (@TheAthleticFC) May 23, 2024 Thx, Jay!
Plymouth just barely avoided relegation this season to League 1 from the Championship. Rooney coming in could finish the job for Argyle? Yikes!
So we went 1-1-3 since I posted this, with our only win coming from a DOGSO PK/red called via VAR. We were also outscored 13-9 in those 5 games, despite a shutout in our one win (so 13-8 in the last 4 games). Needless to say some of that early season success was a mirage of playing against bad teams and teams that overlooked us. That's not happening anymore. There is a better mentality in the team, we keep coming back from deficits. We just can't hold a lead or even a draw late.
Probably right, I guess being with a club so long has its perks; Porter is too new/New England too gutless to fire him this quick, so I'd probably say the seats in San Jose and Chicago are pretty warm at this point.
Peters boss is a guy named Peter. He answers to some dude named Peter who answers to the owners. But the owners do whatever the first Peter says.
Unfortunately, Luchi Gonzales isn't going anywhere, anytime soon. Jared Shawlee isn't about to buy out Luchi's contract to get rid of him, he's far too fiscally conservative to make that move. So we're stuck with him and his MLS v 1.0 thinking.
That sounds like something I’d read on my tearaway calendar of 365 dad jokes. Respect to you, good sir.
So, that's 2 MLS coaches shown the door so far this season. Last year, there were 11 coaches replaced. Who could go next? Orlando? Montreal? Chicago? Dallas? Anyone else besides the aforementioned New England, San Jose, and Kansas City potentials (even though the odds of this happening seem rather small, at present)?
Orlando just signed Oscar to a new deal this offseason. Ditto Chicago with Klopas, though they have been pretty abysmal thus fat this season/. One can never rule out a change in Montreal, it is Saputo afterall. Dallas has a lot of injuries. New England..... doubt Kraft wants to pay a buyout/severance on two coaches, plsu pay a new coach. San Jose is cheap and will likely let Luchi's contract run down. I think Josh Wolf is still a candidate to be shown the door. Phil Neville is in a tough spot, as the Timbers have spent money to bring in talent, and they aren't performing consistently. Does Sporting Director Vermes relieve Head Coach Vermes of his duties?
It's all pretty "meta" to see how Peter may be demonstrating the Peter Principle. In all seriousness, I think the Vermes message is stale in KC. I've heard from more than a few people that the general shelf life for a coach or GM is 10-12 years tops. I remember when Mike McCarthy was dealing with the same thing with the Green Bay Packers. After 10-11 years, he just hit a plateau. Vermes could probably move into semi-retirement doing something with either SKC's academy or with MLS Next Pro. The academy seemed to be a real passion project of his until the last couple of years or so.
