Sounding more an more like Porter is on the hot seat and has possibly lost the locker room.

I voted for being gone Monday assuming they lose Saturday. I'd be more inclined to believe the front office doesn't care but things appear to be coming to a head given the reported 'incidents'.
If I had to grade Porter, to date he gets an F.

That is why letting Shalrie walk was the biggest mistake they made. He was still able to demonstrate the skills he would be insisting the players utilize during a game situation. I would suggest the same rule apply to Farrell, he may be getting slow, but he has the gravitas needed to instruct younger players and back it up with a long history for the Rev's.

We're almost certainly going to lose on Saturday - even if the Revs were doing OK, it's a big ask to beat an NYCFC that's on fire right now. So that's a fairly unreasonable expectation even if one has it in for Porter. If they lose and it's a dumpster fire of a showing, then it's a different story, of course.

Such a far cry from where we were... even at the beginning of the season, looking good beating Central American teams. Great time to be a fan. :(

Usually when a coach loses the locker room, the 5-0 losses start happening. This game will be telling.

My heart votes "If they lose Saturday he is gone Monday", but my head says "Revs FO don't care enough, he has job security". Not so much that they don't care, but more the "measure 9x, cut once" long game will give him to the end of the year.

The Kraft's only respond to lost revenue. They responded when people began to cancel their season memberships during the Friedel/Burns shite-show.

The Krafts respond to lost face...... They only went after and signed Jermaine Jones after a scathing Boston Magazine cover story naming them the worst owners in the league. They only went after and signed Bruce Arena after the sports media pundits began noticing and became vocal (no longer ignoring the Revs) and applied the pressure. Image is everything to the Krafts........ Next to the money.......

This. More than anything, this moves the needle. And with this in mind, it may take a 5-0 loss to force a move - which I think is on the table given where this mess seems to be headed.

I would rather see them show Onalfo to the door.

But then again, with this team, it's not so much about getting rid of the bad parts, but the question of who they would replace him with. They don't have much of a track record of hiring based on competence, rather than loyalty. That's why it was such a pleasant surprise when they hired Arena instead of some weak-kneed yes-man.

I got a 'how are things' call from my rep (who, BTW, is great); that may be a sign of concerns - or it could just a periodic check-in.

At least you got a call. I've been such a well behaved STM lately that I'm beginning to fear he's taking me for granted.

    My take....

1.) The guy is new and came in late into the game where he kind of just inherited this mess. So from that perspective I would think it would almost be unfair to let him go at this point. An argument could be made to give him time to put his stamp on the team. I tend to lean in this direction, but...

2.) If the rumors are true that he has completely lost the team, then I suppose getting rid of him would be addition by subtraction.

What's Shalrie up to these days? If Porter is let go, is there ANY chance Shalrie gets the gig? Or would he even want to after he was unceremoniously let go?

Considering the Krafts perceived lack of interest in soccer, I can see a potentially worse scenario on the horizon, what if they follow the system that worked with Bruce and decide to fire Onalfo and make Porter the coach/ Sporting Director? Without a fat wallet backing his increased responsibility it would be destined to failure and we will all be screaming for them to fire the whole coaching staff. I too believe we may hear some words from the Krafts about "turning the team around" after NYFC destroys the Revs 5-0. But they will be hollow promises.

IIRC, Shalrie wasn't let go, he and Van Den Bergh left on their own when Snichie Williams was put in charge.

That's accurate, though I do have the feeling that it was a "jump before you get pushed" kind of departure for both Shalrie and Van Den Bergh.

Right - It’s always the issue of who’s in charge of figuring out the replacement, and who the replacement will be.

Abysmal track record on both of those points.

Whether fired or quit, Sharlie won't even consider coming back to the Revs in any capacity as long as Williams is still around. Same for Arena.

Did anyone else hear Porter's segment on 98.5 today at around 1:45? It got a little testy. Either his statements are the truth, in which case his testiness is justified, or, he's in complete denial and acting like a cornered badger and just firing back with anything -true or not- in his defense. In any case he was unequivocal. His statements included stuff about fake news.

He said the dressing room is absolutely unified. The team is one. All you are hearing is "fake news". Yes people are upset but he said if they weren't then that's a bigger problem. Got testy again on the Romney thing. Said we lost 6 games with him in, (although for me he's not the problem). Conversation got very uncomfortable regarding Romney. Beetle pressed him that the Blazing Musket asked the question. Porter said -something to the affect- "well it's a weird question asked at a weird time". He also said the center backs without him have been great. Not sure I agree. I was pretty pissed with Henry last week and I thought he risked a second yellow with his mouth.

Porter kept a running (albeit accurate) detailed list of all the reasons for our fortunes. Call them reasons or excuses if you like, I say. Said he's "never had a better locker room".

Kept repeating that our game last week was turned to garbage after the card. Repeated over and over that it's impossible to win down a man for 78 minutes... Something like: Impossible to break down what ensued in terms of strategy because of playing with 10 men. Said he's looking forward to the returning talent, but that NYC FC will be tough because they have a very good line-up "they spend heavily". I think that was an indirect dig on Krapathy. After he hung up, of course the hosts jumped all over that (Kraft's cheapness).

Interesting.... Seems like it might be a little bit of both. Reports that he was shouting at Spaulding seem reasonable, after all, he took a stupid red that put us in a huge hole, so the coach is right to be pissed. And the thing with Lima, after getting subbed out in a disaster of a game, no wonder people are not happy and may get testy, so the locker room thing may be out of proportion.

I still don't like the idea of scapegoating Romney. The CBs have not been "great." Kessler in particular is a real disappointment, and to hear he makes [Doctor Evil]One million dollars[/Doctor Evil] makes it worse!

The NYC game will be tough, but we have to start winning games, especially at home, if we are even want to have a hope for the playoffs. Besides, we've already played Chicago 2x. Is there such a thing as a "must win" game in May?
