Seems a little harsh given his track record (not sure they’ve ever finished lower than 7th), and that they have 7 points out of the last 4 (2 wins, a tie, and a loss), and just won Wed night. As coaches go he seemed like a pretty likable guy.

Yeah, they play fine. Most teams play about the same way, with the exception of a few teams, like Columbus and Miami. They started the season with a spate of injuries, including Zimmerman and Mukhtar, etc.

They finished 4th and 5th in their conference in goals scored in 2021 and 2022 I think, so it's not like his style of play is necessarily inherently "boring", and can't result in goals.

Norwich City just sacked manager David Wagner, who led them to 6th place (out of 24 teams), but lost to Leeds in the second leg playoff game 3-0, after drawing 0-0 in the first leg.
Earlier this year Birmingham City were in 6th place in the English Championship and fired their manager to replace him with Wayne Rooney. Rooney promptly only managed 2 wins in 15 and dropped the team to 20th before being sacked. The next manager couldn’t keep Birmingham from slipping into the relegation zone and subsequently being ignominiously demoted to League One.

I noticed that Lauziere got a VAR assignment today, so I guess he didn’t get punished for last game’s debacle.

Bernardeschi goal 1. such tight tight marking by the defender who actually moves back and gives him MORE space in the box.

Bernardeschi goal 2. i'm not sure if it was lazer pointers... or space lazers... or maybe the goalkeeper was mesmerized by those sweet sweet corn rows... but a nice soft cross finds the back of the net LOL

Bernardeschi goal 3. Since he hadn't yet gone on the scoresheet... the Montreal defender decided he would setup Berna on a tee for his hat trick.

I was not prepared for his hairstyle change and nearly choked watching the first goal.

There is very little tolerance for failure or even very little tolerance for lack of unbridled success in a lot of other leagues. If you want a nice coaching cushion, come coach the Quakes.

Atalanta stuns Bayer Leverkusen in Europa League final, ending 51-game unbeaten streak

Italy’s first European Trophy since 2010!

    Viva La Dea or Goddess!

Atalanta has had five crests since its foundation, all of which depict some combination of the team's name (except between 1984 and 1993), colours, and (since 1963) the Greek mythological athlete Atalanta, from whom the club derives its name as well as its nickname La Dea.

Atalanta, the Greek Goddess of Running, is one of the lesser-known gods worth knowing about. Atalanta was abandoned in a forest on a mountaintop by her father Iasion (Schoneneus or Minyas in some versions), who was disappointed she was not a boy. The Goddess Artemis sent a she-bear to raise her.Jul 16, 2019

I like to root for the little engine that could.
While what Leverkusen did was remarkable, Having an undefeated season and 3 (?) trophies would have been a record only the cheaters ManCity could break

Of course, NYT Rory Smith describes it more eloquently:

It is cruel, of course, that it should be this way. Leverkusen has, after all, illuminated the European season like no other team. It has won its first German championship, after 120 years of trying. It should, this weekend, add the German cup to its trophy haul. It has overtaken Benfica as the owner of the longest unbeaten run in European soccer since World War I. And it has done it all, in case nobody has mentioned it, in Alonso’s first full season in management.

I have read a lot of insane **** on this board over the years but this could be #1

    Owner Bayer AG

Bayer AG is a German multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology company and is one of the largest pharmaceutical companies and biomedical companies in the world. Headquartered in Leverkusen, Bayer's areas of business include: pharmaceuticals, consumer healthcare products, agricultural chemicals, seeds and biotechnology products. The company is a component of the EURO STOXX 50 stock market index.
But sure go ahead and root for the "little engine" behind Zyklon B that was used in the holocaust, Factor VIII that killed off the hemophiliac population in half a dozen countries by knowingly infecting them with HIV, and Neonicotinoids that caused honey-bee colony collapse disorder... that's just some of their greatest hits, they also own Monsanto which makes the cancer-causing herbicide Roundup... oh and they even named heroin after the German word for heroic... brilliant stuff as always around here!

Yes, it's a great footballing success story, considering how Bayern Munich win the Bundesliga nearly every year, I just would not describe losing the first time in 51 games as, "oh, how sad". I save that for actual sad stories. Like the Quakes.
