Great to hear this and i agree, from the standpoint of most clubs (who’ve already shown interest in his talent) the past issues will be chalked up to youth cause he took accountability and moved on From what i’ve seen with other players this lingering rumor and his failure to break into NF starting 11 will not scare away suitors. Nothing he’s done is that egregious…at most, teams may use things like that as a bargaining chip to bluff. If BVB thinks they are worried then fees might be reduced to push a deal over the line Conversely, Dortmund might see through the ruse cause if any of the concerns were serious they wouldn’t be at the negotiating table in the 1st place
NF were already in a relegation battle when he joined. Why go after him if you were going to prioritize players with PL experience? Why not loan in someone that has said "experience" and is available? "Sorry (insert good player who never played in the prem), we need players with Prem experience for this relegation battle." idk, Just seems like a terrible way to look at it. Granted, they stayed up, so NES can point to that. FWIW, I don't have any issue with you or that you brought the quote up. Just an annoying excuse in my eyes.
The season is over and the transfer window is yet to open. What else is there to talk about>? @FC Tallavana 's friends?
If people stopped pretending to know things they obviously don’t know, the internet would be much smaller, and much better.
Again when they brought him on they had a larger cushion with points then they had a deduction that put the manager in deeper jeopardy of losing his job and the team in deeper jeopardy of taking the drop. The circumstances changed after the winter window closed.
Before the drop Forest was in 17th with 24 points and only one point behind 16th and two points behind 15th. With the point drop they immediately went into the relegation zone.
Gio's biggest issue is very few clubs playing with a more pure #10/ACM under the striker. Most are more attack minded 8's who contribute well defensively. This isn't to say Gio can't do that. But it is to say he has little track record of doing it at club level. Other option is on the wing but again, there's that defensive work rate out there plus as great as he is on the ball, he's not gonna go at you with pace 1v1 or at the endline. He doesn't really follow the modern winger mold. So he's somewhat positionless. The elephant in the room is that makes him more of a specialist. Of course, his innate talent and ceiling suggests he can and will figure it out but he's gotta decide either a two way 8 or a winger, what will it be. Otherwise a club will be hesitant to lock him into an XI. My guess is he becomes more an attack minded 8 but to get into the XI there for a club they will be taking a chance. He will need to drop down to lower-mid table Italy/Spain. Maybe even a year or two in Ligue 1. Too many talk about clubs questioning Gio's talent. I disagree. Clubs question his position.
So they were in 17th place when he was taken on loan, which is 1 place above the drop. That is a relegation fight. From matchday 15 and beyond they never went above 17th place. That is a relegation fight.
A fight they would have lost (due to deduction tbf) if Luton did not become even worse after their little blip of good results. I'm glad they stayed up, because dropping due to accountants and owners just seems bad form, but they were not a good team by any definition. As noted, if Gio upped his 2-way game he'd increase his playing opportunities quite a bit. Alternately if he could figure out how to bag a few goals off the dribble that would help lock him into an attacking slot.
Does Gio get a medal if Dortmund win? Forcing a loan and throwing a way a chance to play in the Champions League final can't be a fun feeling.
I wish he was coming off the bench. I blame myself as one of the early loan pushers. To be fair I expected he would find somewhere he would actually play. Game over now.
Both parties are to blame. Terzic didn’t give him as many minutes as he earned. Gio and his crowd chose about the worst loan landing spot imaginable. Water under the bridge now. Hope Gio earns a ton of PT next year.
BVB could sure use a talented young finisher with a penchant for big moments. Wonder where they could find one next season.
