There will be multiple MAGA caucuses in the GOP since MAGA will be the dominant tendency there. There might be a GOP “moderate” caucus.
The cult may die or may not, but here is one thing which Trump proved and cannot be easily and swiftly erased, even if he is out of the picture: the guardrails we assumed that they protect American democracy do not exist anymore. We are no longer in 1974 when a president who broke the law could be unceremoniously told to pack his bags. When the danger of authoritarianism in the US was mentioned in the past, people always claimed "it can't happen here", under the implicit assumption that American institutions were strong enough to annihilate any such attempt. Well, now we know that there are no consequences for attempting to overthrow an election and illegally stay in power. Trump is a cowardly moron, his coup attempt was as ham-fisted as it gets, and yet the American political and judicial system is utterly incapable of holding him to account. The attempts to do so have been downright pathetic, until now. The Republican party simply does not want to and has corrupted the institutions to ensure it will not happen, and the Democrat Party has no clue how to fight against an authoritarian take over.
Worse, at some point, we'll see a guy who is less obnoxious, less blatant, smarter less buffoonish, and more polished than Trump, but will have the same ideas. He won't seem as repulsive, but he will take us to the same place.
Ok, but if this person is less repulsive, well, Trump’s repulsiveness is what makes him attractive to many or most of his followers. It’s like saying if a fat ugly man was fit and handsome he’d be better looking. The thing you’re taking out of the equation IS the equation.
No, it's more like taking a public bus vs. a limo. The limo is a whole lot nicer and more appealing to ride in, but they are both going to the same place. The corner of Fascist Boulevard and Intolerance Avenue, right next to Totalitarian Square in the heart of Racistville.
i agree with all of this. IMO there has been a refusal to face up to the scale of constitutional rupture j6 represented. the coup has been ongoing ever since. it was necessary to root out the traitors. but instead Biden attempted to restore normality.
The problem is the limo is Trump. He has features that no one else has. The most important of those is believability. People believe he's like them, with his language and his tastes in food and other things. Being rich and powerful didn't change him. He makes his voters feel special. And it's feeling special that's the goal, not the bigotry. That's just the means.
One of the reasons I've heard mentioned why the Republicans failed to get behind the impeachment is that they feared for their safety. Republican lawmakers often vote to send American servicemen to risk life and limb for their country. When those lawmakers had to make a stand and risk their life and limb, they went AWOL. A party of patriots, indeed. What is a small thing like the United States worth when something so important as their own skin is on the line?
MSM journos use the passive voice to hide who is doing the verb. You’re doing that here. If you were to change that sentence to active voice, how would it read? Im guessing you’d put it on Biden, in part. And that’s fair so far as it goes, so long as he’s a minor player behind basically every meaningful Republican in America. Biden’s “superpower” for 50 years has been to be a moderate within the Democratic coalition. If Durbin and Schumer had his back I’ll bet he’d have done a lot more. Without them, there’s not a whole lot more he could have done.
I would say the whole Biden administration and the Democratic Party. Biden, individually, obviously shares some of the blame, but let us not forget good old' Merrick Garland, who appointed a special prosecutor to investigate the coup attempt 2 years after the fact.
Peronismo is a good example of a political cult. Chavismo in Venezuela could be another if it keeps surviving

Lots and lots of Diet Coke and Adderall. Read this article. It shows what a mess he is. https://gregolear.substack.com/p/full-disclosure-an-interview-with
Well, we saw what happened with the Q movement. The original guy(guys?) stopped. Now we have random idiots walking around DC trying to "decipher" things like rustling leaves and White House lights on as "things happening."
