I think it's common to have volunteer firefighters in these small towns. I suppose they call the volunteers in when there is a fire.

I think most small towns have a few fulltime folks. They were probably off for the weekend.

It will, but sadly there is more than adequate warning prior to most volcanic eruptions to allow all but the most ignorant/stubborn to evacuate.

San Jose's USOC run ended with a 4-3 extra-time loss at USL Championship side Sacramento Republic FC.
Cristian Espinoza scored a late free-kick golazo to force extra time, and club-record signing Hernán López appeared to clinch the series for the Quakes in the 100th minute. But Sacramento Republic turned it around with two goals in two minutes to emerge victorious.

Good sir... please don't pollute this thread. Who are these earthquakes you speak of? We haven't seen that spirit here since 2005.

We went to the Sacramento River today. Due to the expected wild and impulsive nature of myself, I did not throw my son in, and yell "Figure It Out"

It scares me that you even thought that.
And be careful walking along bodies of water with toddlers. A few years back someone I know was was walking along a river path pushing a baby in a stroller, and her other young child was walking alongside her and slipped off the embankment into the river and was swept away and drowned. So utterly sad and tragic.
