An alternate reality 2019 WC.... Hrubesch head coach. --------------------------------- Schult/Frohms/Benkarth ------------------------------ Gwinn/Maier ----- Hendrich/Doorsoun ---- Hegering/Elsig ---- Simon/Schweers -------------- Kulig/Goeßling --------------------------- Oberdorf/Keßler ------------------ -------------------------------------- Marozsan/Magull ---------------------------------------- Huth/Dallmann ------------------- Popp/Schüller ------------------------- Däbritz/Bühl That mid-field...
If you haven't noticed: Merk is pregnant. She will be replaced by Nico Schneck (assistant coach Germany U16).
Yes... Freiburg have been horrible this season, have wasted their best player within a CB role she's completely irrelevant towards their general play, and haven't made the best use of the talent they have compared to teams like Essen or Leipzig. But no... after witnessing how good the newly promoted teams were this season, having Essen, Leverkusen, and Bremen, all showcase major improvements too, I don't think Merk should be fired. When Minge was among the leagues top scorers, Merk's Freiburg would finish the season 6th place, 24 points, 36 goals scored, 47 goals conceded. This season their currently 9th, 21 points, 24 goals scored, 43 conceded. Suggesting your slightly overrating the current quality of Freiburg as a team, with it being 6 years since this club would finish above mid-table, managing a highly impressive 3rd place, 50 goals scored, 15 conceded... Let Merk build and establish her own team... then we'll be able to see if she's not good enough to take Freiburg towards a solid mid table team, that potentially push/fight for a top 4 finish.
You wonder why I speak highly of Meinert, when your very own majestically wise USwnt openly considered trying to bring her to your program, after the DFB would randomly decide to no longer renew her contract... Yes.. Meinert hasn't coached a team since 2019, but it appears you missed the part where it clearly states she's coming back to the senior wnt as an ASSISTANT COACH post Olympics, to work alongside the very relevant modern coaching mind of Christian Wück. And when you look back at Meinert's time with Germany's u19/20's it basically looks day and night in quality of performance, and results, compared to the mess that's followed in her absence. I mean... for a side which didn't even win the 2017 u19 Euro's, your also stretching reality REALLY hard, calling Germany's 2018 u19/20 cycle a "phenomenal" level quality lol; as you ignore how junior German wnt sides winning, or losing, will typically retain a very strong ability to generate impressive cycles of individual talent. Even the joke of a team selected for the 2022 u20 WC, was a cycle featuring names like Brand, Kuver, Gräwe, Diehm, Sterner, Elmazi, Corley, and Mahmutovic lol. Surely explaining why it's exciting for people to see Meinert return as an assistant to Wück, when the one thing Germany have been missing for a long time, is coaches who can take this consistent conveyor belt of talent, and finally construct a wining identity for a genuinely balanced team again.
World Cup 2027 in Brazil The 2027 #FIFAWWC will be hosted by Brazil! 🤩🇧🇷 pic.twitter.com/iPAISNUZmc— FIFA Women's World Cup (@FIFAWWC) May 17, 2024
kinda of an error in my book, Brazil still has an sort of what they call ‘machismo’ attitude towards women rather than treat them equally. Maybe FIFA was trying to break down this barrier with choosing them, but got the feeling other than the home games, the crowds will be vey low. A better choice would of keep on picking more developed countries
We've had women's world cups held in China, Sweden, Canada, and recently Australia/New Zealand, but your calling a 5 time WC winning nation like Brazil, undeveloped.... FIFA aren't breaking down any barriers taking a world cup to a football mad region like South America, and outside of concerns with infrastructure, FIFA can almost guarantee huge support and interest from Brazilian's when it comes to supporting a major female football tournament on home soil. Seriously... when it come to patriotism, I think your massively underestimating the level of passion Brazil will bring towards supporting a FIFA women's world cup lol.
Yes, Brazil is still a developing country with a miserable human rights record especially against women & the poor. But it’s corrupt FIFA that chose them, so what else is new
OK... you read my post, a decided this would be your response lol. No, I'm not about to derail the German wnt thread over this.. no, no... lol.
I've just seen Peter's latest u20 squad for the next block of friendly matches (the most I've ever seen the u20's have leading to a WC finals...), and she's decided to select multiple players from the u19 Euro's team now, even though the Euro finals will be taking place mere weeks before the WC finals. So... with Peter taking Axtmann, Bender, Janzen, Bartz, Gloning, from the u19's, is this the first sign the wnt program are about to send a weaker u19 team to their Euro finals, trying to help prevent another underwhelming coaching display from Peter at the u20 WC... I mean, why select these particular players for the u20 friendlies, when the established rule for German youth players is for them to be part of no more than one tournament in the same year..
At the last u20 WC, Peter would start the opening match with Corley, Diehm, Elmazi, Mattner, Sternad, Mahmutovic all sat on the bench lol... This being her very confusing starting 11... Sterner ---- Steck ---- Fröhlich --- Hils -------------------- Gräwe ------------------ ---- Mahmoud ---------------- Zicai ----- Weidauer ----- Vobian ------ Wamser And now she's headed to another world cup having been presented with a very strong u17 cycle, allowing her to potentially create something like this... Ritter ----- Pucks ---- Veit ---- D.Acikgoz ------------- Diehm --- Zdebel -------------- ------------------- Sehitler --------------------- Alber ------------ Steiner --------------- Kett But I feel like the wnt program is doing everything possible to prevent the coming u20's disaster under Peter lol, even at the potential expense of the u19's being able to compete within a Euro's finals...

i don't expect Linda Dallmann to make the Olympic team, but she along with Magull, still able to make the 23 player roster. FOTMOB had her ranked at #18 as overall best player in the Bundesliga as compared to Lohmann who came in at way down at #98 FotMob rating - Frauen-Bundesliga 2023/2024 stats and if you scroll down a little to the green chart, Dallmann was ranked the highest for both teams in Byaern vs Hoffenheim TSG 1899 Hoffenheim vs Bayern München - live score, predicted lineups and H2H stats and then intersting;. Leupolz get ranked at #12 overall in the WSL, higher than Nusken's #19 ranking!
Hrubesch's latest 23 player squad for Euro qualification... ---------------------------- Popp/Anyomi --------------------------- Schüller/Freigang ------------------------------ Bühl --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Endemann/Brand ------------------------- Oberdorf/Senß ------------------------ Nüsken/Minge/Lohmann ------------------------ Linder/Rauch --------- Hegering/Solano -------------------- Hendrich/Doorsoun ----------- Gwinn/Wolter ------------------------------------------- Frohms/Berger/Johannes ----------------------------------------------
It's funny seeing Lohmann remain the one permanent fixture of every Hrubesch squad lol, when it's come with her producing club form that could only be described as woefully underwhelming... Previously telling both Lattwein, and Magull, how they'd need to improve their club form before coming back to the wnt, when we continue to see Lohmann selected while she barley features for a club side that has ZERO interest in deploying her within a CM role anymore... I maintain.... it's very disappointing... but once this Olympic cycle finished, and Hrubesch steps down, I don't see a time line where Lohmann maintaining any legitimate role on the wnt anymore. Barely playing now, but also horribly ineffective when she does find time as a wide AM within Bayern's system. How is she going to force her way into the thoughts of a completely new set of wnt coaches, when it means competing with so much more competition...? 2 years ago my perfect CM trio always including Oberdorf and Lohmann. Now I see Lattwein, Minge, Gräwe, Senß, Nüsken, all being way beyond the Lohmann we see now; knowing she'll soon be watching emerging names like Diehm, and Piljic, forcing themselves into the minds of the senior wnt coaches too. LOL... even if I look at competition for the CAM/2nd forward role post Olympics.... Magull, Anyomi, Freigang, Hagel, Kowalski, Däbritz (when she returns), and maybe even Fudalla, all appear superior options to a CM/CAM playing Lohmann, who only 3 years ago for Bayern accomplished 15 goals, 6 assists...
Seriously... you need to look for more resources for player data than FotMob. It's rating system doesn't provide you with the full story, as most of it describes/reflects data over Per 90 mins, which can create some very misleading conclusions on individual performance. I mean yikes... FotMob system allows Rabano to finish in the top ten for the Bundesliga's best players this season...
@hotjam2 Dallmann has easily been a better player than Lohmann this season... but that such a low bar of measurement, it honestly unfair in the credible analysis of Dallmann's worth for the wnt. Meaning I'd start by comparing Dallmann to more positionally relevant peers like Brand, Buhl, Endemann, as this where you get to see the truth about the better potential for the wnt. And while I'd 100% prefer Dallmann to be part of the wnt within a wide forward role, as this clearly where she the most effective. The reality is for an 18 player Olympic squad, Dallmann's not really demonstrated better/higher level effectiveness than Bühl, Brand, Endemann. The joke here, your beloved FotMob works in the direct opposite to this logic lol, having Dallmann somehow rank not only above both Endemann and Brand, but also above Buhl, even though Bühl one of the leagues most effective creative forces... You can look across a host of data this season, and what you notice is Bühl an all round menace, Brand a transition machine, with Endemann a uniquely efficient goal scorer/goal threat. Seeing them feature more prominently in factors the wnt requires for successful wide forwards/wingers. But again... if any of Bühl - Brand - Endemann get injured, I'd rather Dallmann the direct replacement ahead of nonsense like having to see Krumbiegel playing for the senior wnt lol.
Damn... most people who watch Frankfurt typically identify Kleinherne as a very strong defender. But regardless of her playing for the same club as Doorsoun, the wnt coaches still refuse to accept Kleinherne as a realistic option for their team... So I expect Kleinherne to be one of the big winners of the post Olympics arrival of a new wnt coaching department, and it's going to be really interesting to see how the defence continue to be rebuilt around younger options, when all the next wave defensive talent mainly resides within clubs outside of the UWCL. It could become a really important moment for the future of the wnt, if we finally see good player analysis result in more players selected on merit from the leagues lower ranked clubs...
Have to agree with this, I was personally hoping for Germany & Netherlands as I would much rather visit those countries again, still gonna do that. You only have to look at how some powerhouse football nations in the latin world are weak in women's football to see a reflection of the attitudes towards women in those countries. Spain being the exception however that is a fairly recent phenomenon. Italy are improving, however current mens world cup holders argentina are miles off the pace.
Ughhhh, So we shouldn't allow a genuine global football power like Brazil to host a WWC, because of some peoples dislike of their nations politics/general South American politics, or the different cultural attitudes of the masculine dominant Latin world.... Brazil... a 5 time WC winning football nation, providing little money and poor infrastructure for their women's program, has still seen major success in reaching multiple international finals. In the process creating some of footballs most stylistically attractive wnt's, having also produced some of the sports most elite female athletes, including the games #1 female GOAT. But they don't deserve to host a WWC finals because of... issues with human rights.... See, if FIFA historically only gave WC's to nations with the same/similar values of the western world, we wouldn't have witnessed the games impressive growth to become the biggest sport in the world. And honestly... looking at the bids for the next WWC, I'm thinking not only did Brazil deserve it on the pure historical clout they hold over the men's game, but also deserved it because the joint bid coming from Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, would appear absolutely mid/underwhelming too. Making it odd seeing people who supposedly support the idea of empowering female athletes globally, decide to denigrate the prospect of a WWC on new soil, all because of South America not affording it's women the same privileges as certain demographics in the west... When the reality here is the Brazilian bid more attractive than the rest. With the bid from Germany, Netherland's, Belgium, sounding like a frustratingly boring, soulless, low effort non factor we really didn't need to see anytime soon.
USA u16 Basketball Vs El Salvador u16 Basketball... end score 114 USA 19 El Salvador. This is what western privilege looks like in women's sports lol, and why it important FIFA continue to push the sport of women's football into underdeveloped regions like South America, as nations like Brazil already proven on multiple occasions to hold great potential. And when Brazil's wnt program creates players able to be so much more relevant than China, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, it only right they get the same opportunity to raise the visibility of the professional women's game. I mean... even if you want to place this debate into cultural significance, your talking about a region with the significant historical role of helping redefine the sport as something important for the black and brown peoples of the world. All this coming from me.. someone who doesn't even believe in it being an obligation to support all female football lol, absolutely tired of being forced to sit through the stale highly manufactured WWC's, held in nations that don't even care about the game of football...
The last world cup was so plastic FIFA have said it was the most succsessful ever...it broke even for the first time ever....and Australia so irrelevent we finished higher than all previous winners, including the once migthy Deutschland......football may not be our national sport but we love women's football, and get bigger crowds to watch our national team than many "football" nations...We also have one of the best and most prolific strikers to ever play the game..although sadly struggling with injury. Can you show me Brazil's so much more relevant players ? Who are they ?? Brazil's enviable record in men's football is irrelavant to the women's game, where they were once good, however they have had similiar issues to spain's recent woes in terms of wages funding and player treatment.. Canada you say is not relevant yet produced Sinclair who's record is very nearly the equal of Marta (who I admire greatly) but I can see a Bonmati or maybe even an Oberdorf going past that in the future, Bonmati already has already gone one better winning a world cup, will most likely have a gold medal come June...let's hope Obi has both of those in her future. Anyway I'm sure Brazil will host an adequate tournament like they did in 2014 (good result) and lets hope it can be a catalyst for change. Now back to discussing DFB frauen please.
And this is why I didn't want to derail the thread lol.... But OK... if we're playing the game of recency bias, yes... Australia have been able to stand on the back of previous successful WWC's, to continue the rise in the games overall popularity, with Australia also having good players within a wnt that would perform very well too. Congratulations. But there's no way... no way... your going to slander a genuine football power like Brazil for being given a WWC finals, all based on the flawed thinking current day Brazilian women's football still needing a 38yo Marta, prevents them from having any relevancy in the sports future... Peak era Marta coming with some of the most impressive football ever displayed by ANY wnt, surrounded by talents more entertaining/talented than almost anything we see in international women's football right now. It's crazy seeing anyone dismiss the important legacy of peak era Brazilian within women's football, to push a false narrative where one off highly manufactured events, featuring some incredibly privileged teams of female players, supersedes the genuine passion that could allow an elite wnt to come from a nation like Brazil during the early 2000's. Poor support, little Federation level help, we had a Brazilian wnt still be at the forefront of establishing the foundations for women's football globally being accepted by wider mainstream audiences. But instead of embracing this past, and thinking how this could relate to the future, I'm having to argue with people who believe FIFA running away from football nations with strong male heritage for the sport is better, because it supposedly easier to artificially push/elevate the visibility of women's football in nations with more agreeable cultures... No... history says South America vitally important to this game. And regardless of what people feel about South America culturally, or it's various wnt's inability to win major tournaments, Brazil have already done more than enough to deserve the opportunity to host WWC.
Wow... I couldn't agree less lol. Where the do people think women learn to play...? lol, and you think these young girls around the world are watching women's football when they fall in love with this game...? Fathers and brothers often the origin for female players getting into this sport too, with their early hero's all likely to be male players, within a wider sport we see elite female player development often guided by the structures of the men's game too. To dismiss this reality, to regurgitate imaginative nonsense where women's football successfully exists within it's own universe, does nobody any real favours here... none. With past Brazil, just like Spain, Germany, Japan, all owing their success to their male football infrastructures to help overcome the HUGE disparity between them and the USwnt. It's crazy to believe a talent like Marta could ever arrive within a vacuum of women's only history/structures..., and it's ridiculous to see people hold a belief current day Spain haven't leveraged their highly successful legacy of men's football, to establish everything we see now. Wow... people really out here forgetting how truly dominant a prime Marta use to be lol... These highlights not even doing her level of dominance justice either; I know if anybody existed with a peak Marta's level influence on matches, wow... we'd see ever game featuring this player elevated to a never before seen level of mainstream popularity.
Starting with a sold out crowed of 78.000 at the Maracana... A WWC taking place in a football crazy nation.... And again the continued growth of the WWC moving towards a legitimate top 3 sports event on the planet. As of 2023, the most watched sporting events in the world are: World Cup of Soccer – 5 Billion Viewers Tour de France – 3.5 Billion Viewers Cricket World Cup – 2.6 Billion Viewers Women’s World Cup – 2 Billion Viewers Summer Games – 2 Billion Viewers Winter Games – 2 Billion Viewers UEFA Champions League Final – 450 Million Viewers Super Bowl – 115.1 Million Viewers Wimbledon – 25.6 Million Viewers NBA Finals – 17.8 Million Viewers World Cup of Rugby- 17 Million Viewers Kentucky Derby – 16.6 Million Viewers The Masters – 15 Million Viewers World Series – 14.73 Million Viewers NCAA Final Four – 14.7 Million Viewers By the time we get to Brazil, I think this will be the moment we witness the WWC firmly position itself at #3, placing a target on the back of the PED infested Tour de France...
