Let’s see… Austrian economist… Mexican actress… Tough call! I do appreciate a good discussion of economics, but I think I’m going with option 2.
T'Wolves v Nuggets and Knicks v Pacers have re-illustrated for us the beauty of 7-game matchups. I love the one-and-done of March Madness, but the NBA is bringing it this post season.
And I will say it is nice to be in a town that cheers for it's teams, but is not sports crazy. If this were Milwaukee or Memphis, most people would be talking about the basketball playoffs/local team. And so many would be sporting some kind of shirt or jersey or something.
That's part of what I think makes the NBA playoffs better than the Big Dance, even tho I watch college ball but rarely watch the NBA. One and done allows for a George Mason to pull off a bunch of upsets and reach the Final Four, where a system more like the Prem single table would suss them out over a season, and even a three-game series would suss them out in the NCAA. I want my champions to be great and consistent, not fortunate or timely. I honestly believe the UEFA single table is the best way to determine an athletic competition if it can be done this way. There's none of this "peaking at the right time" stuff, no, "second season" stuff, no "event" where the lesser team can steal the spotlight over a team that's been superior all year.
Wait, I'm sorry, but I have to ask you this. Why does someone else's attire choices bother you? Not to mention civic support thru discussion. if other people value their teams' success, how does that negatively affect your quality of life? I ask because the town I grew up in was haughty about its superior education and culture, but we kept getting beat in the state gridiron playoffs.
Exactly. Never mind that they captured hearts along the way, mine included. It was absolutely an engaging tournament. But that's a tournament. No other way to do it. NT ball gets too much attention for the way it has to be decided. That's why it's so difficult to get WOSO fans to understand that club football is what really matters.
Go Wolves. Seriously I don't think the Wolves have a chance after this year, with this squad. Ant is, after this is all done. is about to embark on a 2nd off season where he plays for team USA. Plus, thanks to our Gobert trade we won't have a first round pick until we establish a colony on the moon. It feels like as a Wolves fan from inception the West is never getting weaker while the East does its thing.
Yeah, you can't fluke an NBA title. However, you can win it even if you slept through the first 4 months of the season. If they are gonna make the regular season 82 games, at least give a significant reward to those that finish higher. The French Ligue 2 promotion playoffs would be a good example to work from. It would make the end of the regular season exciting for fans of most teams, not just those that are hovering around the playoff bubble.
No idea how real this is, but it's hilarious. The Scottish commentary on Maradona's "Hand of God" goal. TBH, it sounds like it was a Monty Python skit, but . . .
I appreciate that there are those who support, and I don't mind people out and about wearing a jersey. In fact, one of my favorite months was May in 2011 in Memphis. At that time the Griz were on a great run in the playoffs, a run they never should have had (barely made 8th seed). It was just an exciting time, and displays of support were there, everywhere. The issue I have is the fanaticism. I get the Broncos will be well supported when they have a winning team, but based on the support of the Nuggets this year, I don't think it will be obnoxious. In the way that Milwaukee is with the Packers, or Memphis was with SEC football (Miss St in particular), and quite a bit of the Steelers or Cowboys. And, in truth, the Bucks support was not that bad. But it was never ending, not just of the fans, but everywhere, all year long.
I'd no idea. For the "shut up & dribble" crowd: My brother, Grant, a pretty fair sports journalist, majored in political science @ Princeton. His senior thesis was literally on the relationship btwn soccer & politics. Learned people like Grant did the f*cking work. pic.twitter.com/8szERIv8mv— Eric Wahl (@ziplamak) May 23, 2024
Thats MY line. You're so far outside the mainstream that you don't know how you sound. Well, that's mighty charitable of you, and I'm sure they appreciate your approval. Look inside yourself and tell me what those bolded terms mean to you. This reader sees your words but doesn't see where they apply to a reasonable mainstream definition of team supporter. There's not an IMO anywhere in your attack on standard, normal values. What's your faith? By that, I mean, what mainstream thing do you believe in that's bigger than you are? For most of us it's a church and a team or two. That's how it should be, validated by more people than those who agree with you. But you've decided that one is obnoxious, from your Michelin 5-star upper-middle class perch on the West Coast, and you don't deal with the other. You've thrown the baby out with the bath. There's nothing wrong with the level of support great athletic teams get. There's nothing wrong with sports tribalism. Just like there's nothing wrong with being a pacifist or a Buddhist. You just have to understand that when you speak from what can only be described as an elitist point of view, many of the rest of us will look at you crazy from time to time, and then we'll kinda go, "Oh, yeah, I forgot- that's 'nutter, he just be that way..."
You're kinda like one of those alt/punk/college rock guys, got your pinky out hating on the Eagles and Billy Joel and Wings and Queen.
I dunno, maybe the same reason(s) why Alabama's economy is a turd, while other states with superior education and culture can support themselves? https://wallethub.com/edu/states-most-least-dependent-on-the-federal-government/2700 https://finance.yahoo.com/news/where-tax-dollars-states-most-142938519.html Seriously, without handouts from industrious blue states that have superior education and culture, many southern states would be pretty much 3rd world sh!tholes. So really, while its nice that a town's or state's pointyball team is moar gooder at pointyball, I'd much rather that Alabama get their sh!t together and cease freeloading off blue states with superior education and culture.
