£10M pay-out for half a season of work might be attractive to many prospects. If I'm an agent I try to get my client on the gravy train.
Young manager they said. Ruben Amorim --- the club must have met with him? Hansi Flick --- nope Vincent Kompany --- nope Kieran McKenna – yes, but I hope he stays with the tractor boys Jose Mourinho – Turkey Julian Nagelsmann ---- His contract with the German team expires after the Euros Michel Sanchez – meh Sebastian Hoeness - meh Thomas Tuchel – yes, but I cannot see it Roberto de Zerbi -- nope Massimiliano Allegri --- has been lurning English for years, but nope Carlo Ancelotti -- extended his contract with Real Madrid to June 2026 Dtrip77 - a total yes man. Outside chance.
Everytime the players start to understand what the manager wants, everyime we start to improve, they sack the manager and its back to square one!! Everytime we get a half decent prospect (player) they're flogged to a rival (where they start tearing it up) and they're replaced with a young and raw 'prospect' and it's back to square one (with more money wasted) Did I say the board are f*ckin idiots!!
Julian Nagelsmann, whom I liked last time and I like still, just recently extended his contract with Germany thru the 2026 World Cup. And last time reportedly he walked away from us early because of our structure and too little control, and he did not want Pulisic and Mount and some others sold. Puppets only need apply, apparently. Ironically Tuchel was the one who often had said he did not liked getting involved in recruitment just give him players and a whistle. (though I think he did want some input) But apparently Todd-et-al also want a Coach who will get involved in recruitment and "The Project and Vision" but without any real say or input.
Sums up my thoughts. Welp, I better break my Pochettino silence...▪️I didn't think he was the right fit for Chelsea▪️I think they would have continued to underperform under him next season, and the last few games papered over cracks▪️Chelsea are still taking a BIG risk by parting ways right now— Alex (@EuroExpert_) May 21, 2024
So to re-cap: Poch has gone. Meh. He was always a little Spursy. We could have won the League Cup and we could have won the FA Cup Semi final, but Poch choked. Maybe Poch did enough to get another season as manager, but he didn't really 'deserve' another season. Our young team is ready to win trophies and with the right manager we could do. I just read that Poch is looking to go to the Saudi Pro-League and cash in for a few years before retiring. Poch and his team were not happy managing Chelsea apparently. Our owners are clowns. They are yanks. All of the top teams in England are owned by yanks or some blokes from the Middle East. What is the timeline for finding our new manager? Have they been working on this for a while? Are they just waiting to announce the new man? Who are the leading candidates? Thomas Frank is one of the latest candidates to emerge. No contact with Roberto de Zerbi, according to Fabrizio Romano. Romano also ruled out the likes of Thomas Tuchel, Hansi Flick, Sergio Conceicao, Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho. The Blues are, however, admirers of Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna and Stuttgart's Sebastian Hoeness.
the Athletic article --- by Twomey, Johnson "and more" - Training sessions were ‘tactically primitive’. - Poch refused to accept that his training methods contributed to injuries. - Jesus Perez overworked players with excessive amounts of high-intensity running. - Poch had a tendency to bring recovering players back into full training rather than adapted training too quickly resulted in re-injuries. - Poch disliked using Enzo and Caicedo together and saw Gallagher as their superior. - He selected Levi Colwill at LB to ‘bolster the defence’. - Club’s recruitment team brought Cole Palmer and Poch wasn’t too convinced. - Tried to sign ex-Spurs players to join the club for ‘experience’. - Dismissed the need for hiring the best set-piece coach in England despite Chelsea’s lackluster record. Removing Poch was the RIGHT decision according to this article - maybe ToddCo. paid for the article? It smacks of being a club briefed hatchet job to justify the decision to part ways with the Poch. But, signing ex-Spurs players . . . THAT is going too far!!! . . .and well, would we have ever won anything with Poch? He is just not a winner.
Not surprised. Our last month not withstanding, this team lacked solutions all year People naturally feel like something other than bad luck MUST have been at play when bad things happen, like the injury issues we had this year. We hate to admit that we aren't really in control of things, but we're really not Some of this stuff might have a germ of truth but feels like a hatchet job. We just got supremely unlucky. Split on this one. On the one hand, anyone with eyes wouldn't like Enzo and Caicedo together. Did you see that sh*t? On the other hand, its his job to figure that out and he really super didn't One of the least defensible tactical decision all year. A real bad look for him Maybe he wasn't but neither was anyone really. I mean someone must have been for us to make the deal but this is damning him with hindsight in a really disingenuous way We did need experience. I'm guessing that he just wanted veterans, and their connection to Sp*rs was coincidental, but now that he's out this is an easy way to spin it against him to make the fans feel better Another tactical fail by Poch. This should have been addressed in SOME way a long time ago In sum, I have mixed feeling about all this. Not sad to see him go I guess, but very concerned by what the timing/style of the decision, plus the apparent list of possible replacements, says about the men running things over there.
Looks like this fella who got Ipswitch promoted is going to be the guy?? Can anyone here tell me even one single thing about him?
Yes, he is great imho. Great tactician. Possession game and also the ability to switch it up a bit. The way that Poch started playing Cucurella towards the end of the season is very much a McKenna tactic.
Forced to retire very early at 22 due to injury he then devoted himself to becoming a coach. Jose promoted him to assistant coach when he was at Man United. He is a nice bloke. At this moment in time, he does seem to have some tactics that are 'new' and innovative. There are a lot of the you tube videos dedicated to this tactical edge. Chelsea winger Omari Hutchinson has done really well with him at Ipswich. To hire him, would be a HUGE gamble. But it might work with the players that we have
Yep, that is why they - our beloved "owners" - went for the Potter in the first place. Problem with Graham was 1. he had to deal with a huge squad of disgruntled players and 2. he didn't have much in terms of adaptability. That is his 'game' became possession for its own sake. Meandering. We all understand that sometimes you have to change the tactics - even during a game - if it aint working try something else. Hit it long. something. Anything. Try something else - whilst still maintaining the idea that you have come to play 'good' football. I like the lad from Enniskillen. But it is a gamble. He doesn't have the 'pedigree' and the experience. Manager of Ipswich - although that story is a rise against the odds. Assistant manager at Man United during some very troubled times - appointed initially by Jose. And some yoof coaching with Spurs, Leicester City, Nottingham Forrest and the Vancouver whitecaps.
Investing in a young unproven manager is like investing in young promising players. A majority turn out to be duds. The odds are stacked against us. We're also probably going to have points deducted next season for failing ffp.
This. The conversation i imagine happened: Conner and Trev are being sold. Too bad. On top of that, we're probably getting a points deduction. But City will get even more so it's a great opportunity to win the league. No exceptions. How does that sound?
Wayne Rooney is the new manager of Plymouth . . .so we have missed out on him. 4 candidates. . . apparently 1. Kieran McKenna 2. Enzo Maresca 3. Thomas Frank 4. “mystery candidate” Who is the high profile mystery candidate? the return of Tuchel? the reappointment of Poch? Todd Boehly himself? Frank Lampard? High profile. That rules out the bloke from Brighton surely? High Profile mystery candidate. . . Jose Zidanne Conte Klopp? Sir Ferguson? Didier Deschamps Allegri I dont suppose much is going to happen for a few days. Ten Hag? Man United are going to "Louis Van Gaal" him - will they go for Tuchel or Poch or McKenna. McKenna prefers the United job to the Chelsea job - or so we have been told in the media. Are we really going to get that bloke from Brighton? Is he the "high profile" they have been talking about? Not seeing what he could do for us. I would prefer a complete outsider to him. At this point in time. Add some new names to the list. Thomas Frank - why is this chewing gum addict even on the list? Whatshisface from Leiceter city? Add some new names to the list.
Decision to be made in the next 48 hours - 'made' or announced ? - maybe the decision was made a long time ago? the bookies current favourite is that bloke from Brighton btw - the bookies favourite for the next England manager is Graham Potter
Well he has managed to win 5 league games since last Christmas! The same amount as Poch won since the 2nd of this month! So it makes sense the 'board' sack Poch for him...........................................................did I say already that the 'powers that be' in this club are f*ckin' useless?
I hear it will be the winner of Farke v Martin today who joins the other Championship Head-Coaches in the interview semi-finals, us yanks like our playoffs
