You have this exactly the wrong way round. I don't care overly about the palestine movement. Nor do I care if people criticise it. What I am wondering about is why this board, the media, the polity, has a multi week meltdown about some college kids who have zero political power - yet some make zero posts ever about literal nazi hitler stuff, or worse defend known anti-semitic memes like the Soros stuff. There is revealed preference there - which is of course exactly why the likes of Stefanik run this strategy where she is both one of the nazis and claiming to be mad about anti-semitism but of course only when 'the left' do it. I guess we should have expected that aging liberals on this board would become tend towards reactionary sooner or later.
One illustration of how boiled the American frog is ... This week an AfD politician had to resign after he said not all SS were criminals. In the US, we are way past that day. As Bill Kristol (a neo-con jewish commentator) points out, it ought to have been game over when Trump had lunch with nazis, talked about poisoned blood, praised Hitler to General Kelly, announced the 4th Reich etc etc etc etc As Kristol notes, the Dem polity has been remarkably and historically in array behind Israel and the Jewish people. While Trump cheerled a genocide joe chant. Just incredible stuff There seems to be an idea that we have time for the luxury of delving into Stefanik's college tropes as if it's the 1990s. As Zimmer writes, this entire framework is part of the American fascist legend .... Donald Trump, let’s start here, has a fascistic way of describing the problem – and offers a fascistic solution. According to Trump and those who support him, the country is in decline. It is threatened by outsiders – immigrants, invaders who are “poisoning the blood” of the nation, as Trump has put it. The nation is also threatened by the enemy within: Un-American forces of radical leftism and globalist elites. If Trump is to be believed, in order to restore this declining nation to former glory, to Make it Great Again, it has as to be “purified” – the enemies have to be purged. Trump has repeatedly promised to round up and deport 15 million people – a deportation operation of unprecedented scale, explicitly targeting non-white immigrants, necessitating the creation of a federal deportation force unlike anything that currently exists. “Palingenetic ultranationalism,” the political theorist Roger Griffin has argued, forms a core myth of fascism – “palingenesis” means re-birth or re-creation, a movement or ideology desiring the rebirth of the nation through revolutionary change. [...] The idea that radical leftist forces are laying siege to America is not something we only find on the kooky fringes. Heritage Foundation president Kevin Roberts, for example, openly told the New York Times in December that he indeed believed there was a vast communist conspiracy across government. In fact, that is the diagnosis from which all the rightwing planning efforts for a second Trump presidency starts. “Project 2025,” for instance, is entirely conceived as an effort to counter the “woke” Left’s supposed takeover of all major institutions of American life by mobilizing and weaponizing the enormous powers of government. We have no chance to even come close to understanding what is animating the Right’s accelerating anti-democratic radicalization if we simply dismiss the idea of an acute leftist threat as meaningless propaganda that no one on the Right *actually* believes. Instead, we need to grapple with the permission structure that governs conservative politics: Anything is justified in defense against what they see as a radically “Un-American,” extremist “Left” that has supposedly taken over the Democratic Party, the government, and the major institutions that are determining America’s future. https://substack.com/app-link/post?publication_id=1205894&post_id=144892285 Congrats everyone!
Perhaps because Trump is a terrible person and a threat to the Democracy with dictator tendencies is an ongoing story that has been running for 8 years now. There is only so much you can keep repeating the same thing and keep the viewers attention. The media once in a while needs a new story to attract viewership. I mean, how do you not know this ? Plus, Trump making a reich post was reported by all news media that I can tell. Should they stop all other reporting to only talk about Trump 24/7 ? The media literally had coverage anticipating Trump getting on his car and making way to the court. As for this board, how many times do we have to hear it again that Trump is what he is ? We all know it already. There are multiple threads dedicated to him. Should we make sure it's also mentioned in match threads ... daily ? It seems a bit dictatorship like to want to control what people discuss about.
You seem to be missing the point. If I claim to be mad about antisemitism, yet rationalise Soros memes - that reveals my preference that I am fine if my side are the Nazis.
It's stunning how many Americans bought straight into Stefanik's rhetoric despite the whole woke elites thing being an obvious part of the neo-fascist mythos - this is straight from the playbook of every authoritarian regime. Even when pointed out that she is a purveyor of neo-nazi tropes it became the narrative, including on this forum for some. To parrot Kaz, some people think it's the mid 90s and we have the luxury of discussions over the finer points of taxation and curriculum.
I have a question about “this board.” Are you saying that the posters here have been on Stefanik’s side? What or whom are you talking about?
You just contradicted yourself in your second paragraph. I'll put it this way again: This isn't students, but the Palestine movement, which I'll explain to you, again, in bold.. Then again, you conveniently ignored it. This isn't just college students either, but a lot of adults who support Palestine. No one on here barring maybe a few people are agreeing with Stefanik, and they were right wing to begin with. The thing is, if the pro-Palestine movement actually disavowed its extremists and the rhetoric, Stefanik wouldn't have gotten an in. Or if the Columbia president just declined the invite. Lolwut? Dude! This board has if anything, become more left wing since Trump got elected barring a few posters who are right leaning or hard right and the latter gets mocked quickly. Just about everybody since 2016 got hardened in their own political thought. I know I did. You just don't like hearing anything that doesn't agree with your worldview. Whether it's Nirvana or this subject. But hey, keep thinking someone like me and others on this board, a longtime Dem voter since I was old enough to vote, who has also donated to Dems the last few years, is going reactionary.
One poster has been doing that. And this board doesn't agree with their views. Nor are they a Dem voter.
One of the problems for normies, is they never see the waves of antisemitic propaganda that MAGA is distributing. The NYT recently covered one angle How Republicans Echo Antisemitic Tropes Despite Declaring Support for Israel The review found that last year at least 790 emails from Mr. Trump to his supporters invoked Mr. Soros or globalists conspiratorially, a meteoric rise from prior years. The Times also found that House and Senate Republicans increasingly used “Soros” and “globalist” in ways that evoked the historical tropes, from just a handful of messages in 2013 to more than 300 messages from 79 members in 2023. Mr. Trump frequently referred to Mr. Soros as “shadowy” and “the man behind the curtain who’s destroying our country.” He linked Mr. Soros and other enemies to a “globalist cabal,” echoing the trope that Jews secretly control the world’s financial and political systems — an idea espoused in “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion,” a fraudulent document used by Stalin and the Nazis as a rationale for targeting Jews. Republican members of Congress repeatedly made incendiary and conspiratorial claims about Mr. Soros and globalists — that they were “evil,” that they “hate America” and that they wanted the American people to be “humiliated or destroyed and replaced or dead.” Republicans blamed them for leading people to “forget about God and family values,” for controlling the media, for allowing “violent criminals and rapists to get off scot-free” and more. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/09/us/antisemitism-republicans-trump.html
I disagree with the bolded only because this same thing is used to dismiss BLM protesters. The fact that these things aren't well structured allows for the extremists to show up and then the media run to them. And then you wag your finger that the protesters should self police their protest. The use of agitators and mis representation of extremists is such an old tactic, I don't even know when it started and yet again and again people dismiss the many to highlight a few.
I am not sure why you'd think my post would apply to you when you frequently speak out against the evil of MAGA My post was specifically about revealed preferences. e.g. those who claim to hold liberal values but then only ever criticise the left. At some point it becomes clear that their stated preference is not their actual preference.
People like this? "The meeting — which took place at chain Italian restaurant Maggiano’s in Troy, Michigan — featured about 40 Arab American leaders, Grenell, Trump’s son-in-law Michael Boulos, and Boulos’ father, Massad Boulos. According to two sources in attendance for the private dinner, Grenell came off as unsympathetic to the plight of Palestinians while actually angering some participants by reiterating a comment from Trump’s other son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who said in March that Israel should remove Palestinians from the valuable “waterfront property” in Gaza." https://www.threads.net/@dhstokyo/p...QGz67ihMcB03Wv1iEhLJhF-6SfUYrOkwyNEV3lRIeRnvg
Poll suggests the trial in New York is going to decide the election. That’s an enormous swing. For those presented with the not-guilty scenario, Trump had a 6-point advantage over Biden, 44%-38%, with 18% for someone else or not voting. #mulawpoll— MULawPoll (@MULawPoll) May 23, 2024 For those respondents presented with the guilty scenario, Biden had a 4-percentage point advantage over Trump, 43%-39%, with 18% for someone else or not voting. #mulawpoll— MULawPoll (@MULawPoll) May 23, 2024
Another lefty coming up with excuses to not vote for Biden. Not going to be taking her opinions seriously anytime soon. pic.twitter.com/sTKGYK6D3c— Jessie 🇺🇸📚 (@lookforward17) May 24, 2024 If this country does become fascist, they will blame Democrats, you can't fix stupid.
Inflation or the feeling people have about it are holding Biden back. New @CookPolitical (+BSG/GS Strategies) swing state polls: Trump leads, w/ third party candidates pulling slightly more from Biden. Cost of living by far top concern, and 66% think Biden won't be able to finish a second term. https://t.co/QAGWmHfV4x pic.twitter.com/y4gAdYoATs— Dave Wasserman (@Redistrict) May 23, 2024
RFK Jr: They asked me why I wasn't wearing a mask. They said wasn't I scared of dying of covid? I said to them, there's a lot worse things than dying. They said to me, like what? I said like living like a slave. pic.twitter.com/Vi0Hr23PBO— Acyn (@Acyn) May 24, 2024
These are the alternatives to Biden!?! I wonder what guys like Mitt are thinking about how come he ended up against Obama.
he’s actually pretty much just paraphrasing something that a Mises Caucus libertarian has been saying since 2020.
