If Jesse does well with Canada, maybe he'll get a shot with El Tri.

The anecdotal evidence pointed to Gregg being locked in as the choice both times. For what USSF are paying, they could get a better manager. Kudos to Canada for not settling for a CPL coach. They got creative to get someone a bit more qualified.

I mean it’s pretty clear they very seriously considered Marsch and may have hired him if the players hadn’t weighed in otherwise. Which is an indication that Berhalter was very much not locked in.

For better or worse the people responsible for Berhalter being the coach this cycle are the players more than anyone else.

It's not clear at all. And established players almost always support the incumbent.

There’s credible reports they were leaning Marsh until they consulted with the player pool.

It’s perfectly valid to question the decision, but I think it’s pretty apparent they very seriously considered Marsch.

One can also criticize USSF for listening to the player pool, but given the public statements from so many of them it’s pretty clear they wanted him back and pushed for it. Pulisic didn’t just put his comments out there publicly on accident.

But if one is unhappy about the decision it’s much more one that’s on Pulisic and others versus on Crocker in my mind.

And established players don’t always support the incumbent. Often players don’t like a particular coach and would be happy to have a change.

So your position, as I understand it, is that they brought Jesse so far into the process to the point that there were rumors he was selected, that they were negotiating terms, and that Jesse is annoyed about it, just as some kind of smoke screen?

That Crocker, newly hired just a few months before, is just a straight out liar and totally willing to go through a ridiculous farce for people he has just barely met?

Not if they don't like how the team is going. Plenty of times players actually push for a change.

Players shouldn't have the final word, but they should have input.

They got the MLS teams to pay his asking price. Done.

Good on Canada for getting a better than Gregg-level of coach. Wish USSF, which has far superior resources, could've likewise stretched themselves.

Canadians, how do you see the team lining up under Marsch?

    I agree with this.

Bombito’s positioning is suspect, although he is ridiculously athletic. That’s enough in MLS, but not in a high level national team match.

We lack a CB general dictating things alongside him.

    Just keep Bob Bradley away.

He was atrocious with TFC. John Herdman showing everyone he is 10 times the manager BB was at TFC.

Haha, I can see why it might be considered but that would really start getting weird.

Our Copa America roster still hasn’t been released (of course).

Rumour has it the CSA has asked FIFA for an eligibility ruling on an EPL player.

    Why would that be weird?

The Bradleys and Jesse Marsch are about as connected as any "coaching tree" in MLS.

Seriously. Jesse played for Bob at Princeton. When Bob was an assistant at DCU, they drafted Jesse. Then when Bob became the head coach in Chicago, they brought in Jesse. Then when Bob became coach at Chivas, he brought in Jesse. As USMNT coach, Bob capped Jesse.

How did Jesse start his managerial career? USMNT assistant under Bob Bradley in 2010.

Jesse has talked about how he basically owes everything to Bob Bradley.

Michael has presumably known Jesse his entire life.

So this would be one of those full circle things if Jesse then offers Michael an opportunity as an assistant with Canada.
And I think we ALL knew Michael was going to into coaching.

Not only does Michael have the potential to be a really good coach........................he played in Canada for a long time. He presumably does have a better feel for the Canadian landscape than similar options.

'To me its not only not weird, it makes 100% perfect sense. They should do it.

    Daniel Jebbison???

The FIFA eligibility ruling would thus just be a one-time switch?

You guys have been courting him for a while...........................

I said I could see why it would be considered and it is for all the reasons you lengthily listed. Just feels a little weird to me.

I don’t think it’s weird but I’d much rather the US offer him a gig as an assistant with the U23s or something as I’d rather someone with his background be a part of the US program.
