btw - me on ignoire or whatever from Hobo (again) - apparently his "ignoring works as well as his logic" - if I put him on ignore that would be it... but, I digress again - does anyone here, other than Hobo think that if Jesus did that on the one yard from the goal-line that it's "given the current rules never been given as a handball" I really think this guy is becoming mentally ill from magical analysis of rule-loopholes??? (and if he is right - wtf are the current rules that allow for the inclusion of such mind-bending stupidity???) that statement is fvcking insane
Hobo has stepped over the line into Troll territory. a player punching the ref on the halfway line and kicking him as he goes down will be ok soon.
From Hobo. ( I’m not going to post the whole diatribe ) “Uh, no. This is incorrect. Because there is NO problem in the above scenario (if) the 90 fans you're talking about don't understand the rules.” Yep, 90 or 90% of fans are dumb shits. Follow VAR rules and you’re right. Who gives a shit about football.
Euro and Copa VAR decisions here. I mean there won't be any likely - so this should be a nice calm thread.
Can we please merge this thread with the Lumpy Does DC, No Abortion For You! thread? It’s going to be kinda boring otherwise.
In the press conference on Wednesday, the UEFA referees' chief made it clear that any challenge off the floor with contact above the boot should be a VAR red card. He said there would be no tolerance on such challenges.#GERSCO #euro2024— Dale Johnson (@DaleJohnsonESPN) June 14, 2024 Get ready for lots of reds at this Euros...
If they call all contact above the boot with zero tolerance and do it consistently I'm good with that. The players will have a clear understanding of what is not permissible. The refs calls must be consistent across all games and I'm hoping to see a good standard of officiating.
We also need the lunging in with no control element, seems a pretty crucial part to what they're talking about here.
A tackle for the ball almost always involves lunging in to varying degrees .Reckless should not be tolerated tho at times contact can be accidental. One of the most important things tho , however they decide to implement their laws is to be consistent when officiating. Players and fans can accept even laws they disagree with just as long as its the same for both sides and consistent in every game.
Doku didn't lunge in at all, is my point; even as a joke it's just not a very good point of comparison for what those guidelines are about. But I dunno, maybe if Doku challenge happened in UEFA competition it would have been given. Prem are more relaxed on those sorts of decisions (pens, handballs, and reds). Switzerland's first goal vs Hungary required VAR, linesperson incorrectly flagged it as offside even though it wasn't that close. Thanks again VAR.
Of course he didn't lunge. You cannot lunge at chest height. Doku simply had his boot raised too high which certainly would meet the Uefa refs chief's defintion of a VAR red card. the UEFA referees' chief made it clear that any challenge off the floor with contact above the boot should be a VAR red card.
