You could fly with Eurowings for 390 euros on July 10th but it would mean getting to Munich airport in time for a 7.55 am flight, after likely a late night after the first semi. Or you could take a leisurely 5-6 hour 1st class train for under 50 euros.
P.S. When you add up travelling to Munich airport, all the check in and security, the one hour flight and getting in to Dortmund from the airport, the train doesn't take a huge amount longer and it's less hassle.
Hoping it's okay to ask this here. En route to Cologne from London I have a 4 hour 50 minute stopover in Vienna. If possible would like to exit the airport and just get a bite to eat in the city or something. Anyone in a similar boat? Would anyone with experience say that's doable or not enough time to do that? And just ride it out in the airport? Get to Vienna at 1:20pm and flight to Cologne is 6:10pm.
Technically, you can do it because it would only be just over an hour round trip to central Vienna. However, I would not advise it because you would have to go back through security and everything like that. It would probably be more stressful than anything else.
Hi all, Catching up late in the game with logistics but am only staying in Germany between 18th-21st June. Have tickets for Scotland/Switzerland in Cologne and Spain/Italy in Gelsenkirchen (both 9pm games). Staying all 3 nights in Cologne and also flying to and from there to London. My understanding is I’ll be able to use a 36hour pass for the 19th/20th June with no issues as I’ve got tickets for both games on consecutive days? Am I right in saying that I don’t need to book any train tickets in advance as I’m only going to be going on the regional trains? Are they a simply get on the train or does something need to be booked (even if it’s on the day?) Also have been reading through and don’t think this is confirmed yet but should I have any issues getting back to Cologne from Gelsenkirchen after a 9pm game? Can’t see that being a problem as can imagine closer to the tournament things will be in place for later trains but just want to see if I’m missing something obvious on that front. Thanks!
What apps do we need for the railway system in Germany apart from flixbus Also got a link for a Euro WhatsApp group thought I might share https://chat.whatsapp.com/DJNIroxrftJ9UWEIDz1J9m
You should only need the DB app and then any regional app like for the Munich U-Bahn, as an example, if you want.
All of the central train stations should have some, but I would imagine the stadiums will not because of potential security issues there.
It appears that there are only 200-300 lockers at each train station. Not sure if that's enough for a match of 50-60k people. There were storage facilities at World Cup stadiums though.
Because I was curious, I can confirm Cologne's stadium has no spot for luggage while Dortmund might as they do during home matches. I wouldn't equate the WC in Qatar and the Euros in Germany as there has been terrorism threats and arrests in Germany recently, so the police just might not want large suitcases near the stadiums. The UEFA website gives no indication, so it is probably going to be something you will find out if you try it.
I looked into this as doing a 9pm in Munich followed by a 3pm in Cologne then a 9pm in Dortmund. There are private storage options in cities as well as railway station lockers. Just google luggage storage Cologne etc etc In the end I decided on the overnight train and will leave my luggage at my hotel. I don't know if there will be options at the stadiums but I wouldn't rely on it unless you know for sure.
Do we expect the 29EU DB tickets will remain available to purchase during the tournament? I have some trips that might change depending on what games I will be attending on certain days, but I am afraid not purchasing from now and losing the great value the 29EU tickets are offering. There is a train that I might be taking that costs 115EU currently on the DB website (overnight Dusseldorf to Munich with no stops), I am afraid that waiting will make me pay this sum after the 29EU tickets are done.
I personally would not purchase any of those tickets now if your plans are not firm because those tickets are nonrefundable. If you plan on traveling by train around Germany for five days or more and going cross country multiple times, a rail pass is your best option. I will say that I have late matches in both Dusseldorf and Gelsenkirchen, so I was looking at late night trains back yesterday to Cologne and there were plenty of seats available on ICE trains.
I looked into bags at the stadiums earlier and the ones I checked have an A4 sized bag limit, which I presume means that a small day bag is acceptable but not a full sized rucksack.
Hello, If I have all the tickets and will keep them on my account (3 tickets), will I only need to have the fan pass on my phone or each of them will need to have fan pass?
Everyone gets a fan pass per person for your time. It is not like a ticket, but more like a passport.
So my 2 friends need to install the Euro 2024 app on their phone even if the match tickets will stay on my phone?
From https://www.uefa.com/euro2024/event-guide/apps/ : "What if my guest doesn't have a mobile phone, can I have several Fan Passes on my phone? That's not necessary. Your Fan Pass recognises the number of tickets you have as it's linked to your ticket account. For example, if you have two match tickets on your phone, your Fan Pass will show two people, meaning that both you and your guest can travel with the Fan Pass. If someone in your group doesn't have a mobile phone, simply keep the match tickets on your phone and travel together on your Fan Pass."
I'm staying in Koln and got to get to Gelsenkirchen for the England game on the 16th. Because Koln and Gelsenkirchen are in the same area on the map - a train fare should be covered under the 36 hour travel pass, correct? I don't need to buy train tickets?
Just wondering two things: If I'm staying in Dusseldorf before watching the game at the arena in Gelsenkirchen, since they're in the same area I can use my fan pass to get on the train and travel to/from the arena without reserving a train right? Or are they too far away? Also, how late will trains run into the night post the 9 PM matches?
What's the best way to get to DUS airport after a game in Dortmund that starts at 9pm? I've only been to Dortmund once and by car.
