When the news popped up on my feed it screamed, “Agent wants someone to pay him MLS money instead of what’s in the relegation clause.”
🚨 Chris RamosI've been told that the La Liga club Cádiz forward is US-eligible. The 27-years-old was named Christopher after his father, an African-American who played basketball in Spain during the 90s. Last name Ramos de la Flor comes from his Spanish mother. pic.twitter.com/kszmYXbblR— Football Legionnaires (@FutLegionnaires) May 8, 2024
Americans at PSV are champions not only at the senior level, but also at the youth level with Austyn Jones (upper right) and Michael Bresser (lower right)USSF is pushing in particular for Jones, and seeing how other cases eventually turned out, we should be optimistic https://t.co/mxPHhWbmU3— ChuckMe92 Soccer (@ChuckMe92Soccer) May 14, 2024
I heard some take recently on Jones. Sounds like he's a pretty promising young guy, not suggesting superstar, but I am suggesting he sounds like a good add. Only note I can add is that he's added 4 goals at the U16 level for the Dutch, 2 against Italy's U16's as a LWF, and 2 against Japan, all accomplished in about 500 minutes of U16 pt as a striker and LW/RW. He played 40 mins in a pair of matches at the U15 level against Germany last spring. No real data beyond that, but I guess our scouts must like what they see of him for an U17 prospect. No real PSV data beyond the fact that he's played around 90 mins this past season as a 15 year old on their U17 team (he just turned 16 a month ago).
Manu Romero of Real Madrid scored for our U15s today against Croatia. He's the son of former Uruguay international Marcelo Romero, and is also eligible for Spain. Goaltending at this level is optional. The other goalscorer is named Zidane Cadet (Inter Miami). Now that's a name..................... Joel is also eligible for Nigeria. American forward Joel Imasuen, 19, signs a new pro contract with Werder Bremen. The Atlanta area native made his Bundesliga debut in March with a late-cameo off the bench and helped the reserve team earn promotion from the Oberliga to the Regionalliga. https://t.co/LaLWCPjFTz— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) May 15, 2024
Seems like we've been talking about this dual-nat forever. I can’t see a world where he makes the final roster but this is a big vote of confidence from Switzerland 🇨🇭 on his potential. Also a good recruiting play to show Okoh that he’s valued highly. https://t.co/QT1elbJ9Sq— American Ultras Talk (@ameriultrastalk) May 17, 2024
Guy picked up an injury before the season and didn't play a single minute for Salzburg this season. He played for FC Liefering (Salzburg's reserve team) in Austrian's 2nd league. Not the easiest CB pool to breakthrough either. Switzerland has starters for City, Newcastle, Gladbach, Torino, plus a rotational player at Wolfsburg.
Its possible. As noted above, the Swiss are deep in his position. Being named to a provisional roster doesn't have to mean anything. Prior to all of his injury problems, he was entrenched in the Swiss youth teams. Gregg reportedly met with this player. He's one of those quad nationals. Eligible for Switzerland, USMNT, Republic of Congo, and Nigeria. We'll see. He's gotta get back on track.
To be clear he’s also primarily been playing with the second team at Salzburg this year. Which is understandable given the injuries but he’s not someone who would be getting call ups right now if he were committed to the US.
I don’t know, I think we might call him up right now if he was interested. He raises the floor of our CB pool dramatically.
He's just been hurt so much. I mean, you're talking about a guy who was just playing in the Swiss 2nd division as "raising our floor." He's been more of an abstract concept the last several years than an actual high-performing CB. He'd definitely have been a guy to look at for our Olympic team, as we're thin at CB with that group. Unfortunately, he played for Switzerland in some U21 Euro qualifiers. He's thus cap-tied to Switzerland at that level. Don't get me wrong. Its always good to add guys to the pool. I'm just skeptical at this point.
Bryan Okoh to the USMNT is in the very narrowest of windows. The Swiss are at around our talent level, the moment you become a starter in a top 5 league you will get at least a few MNT callups. As loaded as the Swiss are in CB most of those guys are 6 years older and I don't see them ignoring a younger talented guy that could be a starter a cycle from now. Add in that Okoh has been in the Swiss MNT system since he was 14 and the chances are vanishing small.
Our floor at CB, in fact across our entire backline, is really low right now. I agree with you that Okoh can’t help us at Copa America, for instance. I think there’s a decent enough chance he could help us in 2026. In terms of dual-national recruitment I think you recruit him to switch and call him up immediately if he does.
Guys...............Okoh has been playing in the Swiss 2nd division for several years now. Go check out his last three years in transfermarkt. Tons of injury problems. I get it. We want to expand our pool where we can. He's only 21 and we can't see into the future. ..........but it shows quite a substantial inferiority complex to think the Swiss 2nd division is better than MLS. Does anybody actually watch him enough in the Swiss 2nd division to have anything intelligent to say about his game...................other than its a name we recognize? Oh, he's in Europe so he must be better than Jalen Neal and George Campbell and Noah Cobb.
But to get him right now you’d need to offer him a spot on the Copa America roster. And he obviously isn’t at that level. All you can do is keep tracking him in case he does reach that level and try to beat Switzerland to calling him up. But it’s going to be hard since the level of their national team is fairly close to ours.
Weird typo. Autocorrect? Its obviously Christian McFarlane. 1793001803874730300 is not a valid tweet id
He could potentially compete for a spot on the Olympic team given how weak we are at CB in that age year, except he's probably cap tied to Switzerland at youth level....and even then he isn't making the Olympic team over 2 overage picks and an every week starter in BL2.
