🧱 Andriy Lunin in #UCL this season:• Record NINE saves vs Leipzig in RO16.• EIGHT saves vs Manchester City at Etihad.• 2 penalty saves to help the team reach the semifinals.WALL. 🤍 pic.twitter.com/nrS2QUMwYb— Madrid Zone (@theMadridZone) April 17, 2024 One against Alaves with nothing to ppay for the other on the highest stage Rushing out on a ball? that's Lunin's specialty. Tibu always stays back because of his lack of speed. Yes, Tibu is more secure on deadballs but he has just 3 games under his belt this season. That's not enough
Lunin will have his time, when you have your best GK available before a final then he’s playing. Football is harsh but it is what it is.
Om Arvind, 1999 - 2024Managing Madrid has lost a family memberhttps://t.co/XS6nMRKsvc— Managing Madrid (@managingmadrid) May 19, 2024 Unrelated, but this sad story should be a reminder to get help if you need it. Don't resort to this please - it causes so much pain/suffering for those around you.
Indeed i keep reading this, one or two goals are always mentioned like Tbo never gave up a goal to an aerial ball, it's odd, also Lunin being bad with the ball at his feet and too slow to start the play, i have to say i have watched a different keeper all season long, Tbo is a better keeper but the continuous drive to degrade Lunin's efforts which have been on show all season long and has helped us to a league title and possibly a CL title, more than we achieved last time around is an odd thing to read
I realize suicide seems highly implied, but the word itself hasn't been used at all to my understanding.
🚨 Real Madrid’s XI in the Champions League final is practically set! Courtois; Carvajal, Nacho, Rüdiger, Mendy;Valverde, Camavinga, Kroos;Bellingham; Rodrygo, Vinicius.@marca pic.twitter.com/YXSBUjqL9L— Madrid Xtra (@MadridXtra) May 20, 2024
Awful to hear. I've tuned in to the pod many a time and he was really impressive with his analysis. May he RIP
They don’t usually put cause of death in media reports of suicide nowadays. The reason is that apparently when you put cause of death as suicide or go into detail about how it happened, there is an uptick in suicide rates because of copycat suicides.
Nobody is discrediting Lunin here. What is simply being said is that if Tibo is available, he's starting. As harsh as that may be, it is what it is.
Yeah, that makes sense and I understand. It's not the public's right to know the details anyway, that right belongs exclusively to the family, so if we never know what happened then it's on us to accept that. The fact that "mental concerns" were brought up at one point was alarming enough. Just sucks that it came to that...well, whatever it was that led to Om's death sucks, doesn't really matter what it was. Doesn't change the fact that it's a big loss to his family and, to a lesser extent, the football community. When I was more active on Twitter about 5-6 years ago, I had several interactions with him, his interest in the tactical side of the sport rubbed off on me in a big way.
I used to listen to Om a lot when he was a contributor on MM a couple of years ago. Aside from his analysis and love for Real Madrid, in particular CR7, he seemed like a really nice all round guy. When I first heard about his disappearance on one of Kiyan's MM podcasts last week, it really shook me up. Very sad news.
Regardless of the cause of death, reach out to someone if you need help and keep perspective because if you are on top there's a good chance you'll drop and if you are struggling tomorrow will be better. In the meanwhile, keep coming here for the banter and the laughs and thank God for another day.
And a backup striker who couldn't hack it. Turns out, he's one of the top backup strikers in the world right now.
Joselu scored 14 league goals at Alaves and 16 with Espanyol. Joselu was going to be the best back up in recent memory after Morata as long as he kept that level unlike Mariano who was unplayable throughout his contract. With those Bayern goals, Joselu arguably became the most important back up striker in a RM season. Rivals started trolling that he'd replace Benzema in starting line up last summer while it was clear we are shifting to 4-4-2 with Bellingham as AM. I expected Rodrygo's league scoring to be better in a regular starting role but it didn't matter in La Liga as we won comfortably anyways.
