VCFC 1 - Real Monarchs 0 in the 27th minute. Own goal off a well-placed corner kick. Good crowd, stadium announcer in midseason form (sounds like he's moonlighting from WWE matches), and camera seems to be on a cherry picker so they can show the crowd rather than putting it on top of the press box in the stands.
Maybe they are giving credit for the goal to Vivi. Up 1-0 at the half GINO VIVI!! 💪⚽️ pic.twitter.com/795UznFRot— VCFC (@vcfcmlsnp) May 20, 2024

Final score : 2-0 with two own goals. Not the best performance from VCFC, but it was enough to get the win and the shutout so credit to them. Gino Vivi remains the leader of the attack, most of the dangerous situations have to go through him. It's not always clean but it's solid for MLS Next Pro, and maybe for a spot in the first team. Chris Brady is having a solid season and is possibly our best G2 keeper in years. I said it last week and I'll say it again : two great performances from Axel Essengue and Riley Dalgado. At 21 it was time for Essengue to have a breakout season but Dalgado, at only 17, is making wonders for his age. VCFC regains the top spot in the Western Conference, congrats young boys !
Vivi was credited with the first goal, but Harbor Miller’s was called an own goal. 2-0 either way .@vcfcmlsnp open life at home in style with a big 3⃣ points 😎 pic.twitter.com/JrhKJIm6hJ— MLS NEXT Pro (@MLSNEXTPRO) May 20, 2024
Reportedly, there was a crowd of 1500+ for the home opener in Thousand Oaks today. In a nice touch that connects VCFC with its historical nickname of Los Dos, the VCFC supporters group has named itself Los Doce, meaning the 12, in reference to the 12th man in the stands. https://www.instagram.com/los12_vc/
I guess we know why now Brisbane Roar are set to sign LA Galaxy defender Marcus Ferkranus. The 21-year-old, who holds an Australian passport, currently plays for the Galaxy’s reserves team in the MLS Next Pro competition and is a former United States u-20 international. 1-0 loss at Vancouver last Sunday. Disappointing result, VCFC went toe-to-toe with Whitecaps 2, looked the better team in the final 15 minutes and were looking for a late goal but a bad clearance from Christian Tchouante (who otherwise did OK in his first start for Ventura County) lead to a Vancouver goal. That said, it was not a good game for our reserves, you can feel the team badly misses Jonathan Pérez, and I don't understand Matt Taylor's strategy to start Bibout on the bench : the team is clearly better with him. Good performance from Harbor Miller, maybe his best with VCFC, very solid on one-on-one both defensively and offensively. He has locked in the starting RB spot, let's see how far he can develop.
Do you think Nextpro will give Harbor the development environment and experience to replace Yamane when his contract expires at the end of 2026 or should he be loaned out?
Harbor is a 2007. He's 16 and won't turn 17 until late June. He also didn't play for the G2s last year, so he's probably right where he needs to be right now and maybe for some of next year as well (the first where he is playing under an MLS contract). Since he's in the USYNT mix, he may also get opportunities with them too. Ideally, he would get some chances in US Open Cup and Leagues Cup to supplement, but we'll see. I don't think we have to worry about beyond that because a lot can happen between now and then.
Thanks. I didn't realize that Harbor was this young (a good thing). I have been impressed with what little I have seen him play. Yamane will be 32 when the 2026 season starts (his last under his current contract) and Harbor will be 19. I was projecting that he might be a better replacement than Cuevas and kind of asking if another year of Nextpro would prepare him to be a full time backup/spot starter in 2026.

Ferkranus on the bench. Maybe the deal isn’t done or they’re loaning him back to us until the window opens in Australia.

Tacoma’s press got the better of the Galaxy. Brady Scott tried to clear and it was intercepted and then slotted home. His teammates put Scott in a bad spot there. This is a game where they really miss Lepley, who is their best midfielder at navigating out of tight spaces. 1-1 Faysal Bettache fires in the volley to equalize, @TACdefiance 1-1. pic.twitter.com/1IK4qZyppk— MLS NEXT Pro (@MLSNEXTPRO) June 1, 2024

FINAL: VCFC 3 - Tacoma Defiance 2 Nice win for the players, especially without their usual difference makers - Lepley and Perez. Scott came up with some big saves after the gaffe in the first half that led to a goal.
Good job by the boys, Seattle 2 is exactly the Galaxy team of the past few years : offense is generating chances after chances but lack of defensive cohesiveness always comes back to haunt them. After an early mistake, Brady Scott had a couple of great saves and probably earns MOTM honor despite his error. Another solid performance from Vivi, Bibout looked good too. Gabriel Arnold looked OK for a 17 years old in his first start, with a couple of scrappy recovers in the midfield. But the disastrous performance came again from Sean Karani. First VCFC goal came after he completely whiffed a cross (it looked really terrible honestly), had a soft giveaway in front of the penalty box on Tacoma second goal, was replaced seconds later and the third VCFC goal came from his side and a Vivi run a few moments later after he was subbed off. I've seen enough from him, we should really give his minutes to other players. VCFC take back the lead in the Western Conference, and like the first team, are still undefeated at home with a 5-0-1 record.
Garces starting for VCFC today. Makes sense. He needs minutes right now. Plus, he’s next to Cuevas, which is a possible pairing for Garces at some point Sunday evening’s starting XI against @timbersfc2 pic.twitter.com/IMMMlRcnUz— VCFC (@vcfcmlsnp) June 9, 2024
