He’s definitely at the top of my list in terms of domestic based options. Matarazzo is the other name I’d be interested in. Unless Pep or Klopp wants to be the MLS USMNT coach.
If those were the terms Viera was demanding, I'm glad Crocker didn't pursue that any farther. First of all, had there been a decent European opportunity, Viera would have bolted and the US would have been left in a bind. Second, to be honest I don't think Viera is worth anywhere close to 5M/year as a coach.
I think on the same deal as Berhalter (or at least not dramatically more) and without an out clause he’d be worth serious consideration. But not on those terms.
He said he had to leave the team (seemed like for personal reasons, I’m guessing not his own) and a Fed higher up basically held a vendetta against him for it and tried to keep him from getting back in.
I think I vaguely remember this but if I recall correctly this was either the 98 or 2002 cycle so I’m not sure why it’s relevant today. He was also an assistant with the U20s for Ramos I believe and wanted him to get the USMNT job and was also upset that the new regime came in and cleaned house of all of the guys Ramos had brought in.
Isn't it great that our 24 yo veterans with very suspicious club records are allowed to choose kindergarten teacher they want.
It would be a great problem to have if these were transcendental coaches… but its mostly a weigh-in of which coach would fail the least.. I like Marsch but the way he has carried himself over the whole USMNT coaching situation has been pretty obnoxious and petty.. that he went and slipped in a few shots at Berhalter during recent national team matches was a bad look for him… All the same I wish him much success with Canada and definitely look forward to the first US v Canada tussle
How do you think hiring decisions are made in high-performance environments? This international soccer, not the Russian army.
It's the US national team. They hired Greg Berhalter on nepotism. That much is almost confirmed as a matter of fact. Did you seriously ask this question?
If Fabian gets st Pauli to survive he’s going to be on everybody’s big boy list. That includes England clubs
What does that have to do with someone thinking it’s amateurish to consult players about a coaching appointment?
Frankly, I don't care what happens with Marsch in Canada. All I want is for Heath to get his job back, so we have a decent USMNT podcast again
I think he’d be in a similar spot to Matarrazo who got Stuggart promoted and was fairly solid in year one in the Bundesliga but had things fall off in year two. But that success meant he was able to get another Bundesliga job fairly quickly with Hoffenheim (and has now gotten them into Europe). Hurzeler is on a similar track depending on how year one in the Bundesliga goes.
Presumably he won’t be back for a third cycle even if the World Cup goes well. So at least worth tracking potential replacements for the 2030 cycle.
Our former NT coach had TFC in the basement, even with two Azzurri vets. Herdmancomes in and they're jockeying at the top of the East. How bad is our cosching?
GGG 2018 hire.... did they consult anyone? it was a 100% Nepotism hire (the USSF burners will come after me and try to cancel me, that's part of the modus operandi.)
Why have you decided to pick a fight about this (again) right now? Nothing else to talk about? I'll expect that you'll call me a "USSF burner" simply for asking you this question.
Nancy continues to get the business done. We have an MLS club going into a CCC final in fantastic form. Of course, he'd go unbeaten for eternity if he got to play the Fire every week. he also, it should be noted, is giving some opportunities to young Americans. Mrowka and Harbroune have made their debuts recently. With a 3-1 victory over the Chicago Fire, @ColumbusCrew head coach Wilfried Nancy became the first coach in MLS history to win each of his first eight regular-season matchups against a specific opponent. pic.twitter.com/6ZA4msn1eQ— MLS Communications (@MLS_PR) May 19, 2024
That's a really weird statistical achievement for the league to cite. What I want to know is: who is the first coach to win his first 5 games played on a Tuesday with temperatures between 80 and 85 degrees?
