The @LAGalaxy have invoked their purchase option of 22-year-old Colombian defender Emiro Garces, signing him to a 5-year deal. Garces' acquisition was originally announced last month as a loan.— Kevin Baxter 🇺🇦🏳️🌈 (@kbaxter11) May 2, 2024
Wonder if this is the reason why the Gs have been so quiet on Garces in terms of PR. And 5 years...hope it works out.
I said it last night, the Kings need to cull their front office and my latest @TheHockeyNews dives into why that is. It's time for a tear-down upstairs at TSPC. https://t.co/QwMeiC3WUp https://t.co/QwMeiC3WUp— Austin Stanovich (@AStanovich68) May 2, 2024 LA Kings fans are going through a crisis now that their team is eliminated third year in a row in first round to Edmonton Oilers. -A team at the cap with aging players -A GM/President part of an old boys network (Luc/Blake) that have really trashed the teams future in the past 2 years when we seemed well positioned with young talent including... - ...One of the worst trades in team history (which says a lot if you know about the 1969-1988 LA Kings) when we traded 3 good players (including Vilardi a young possibly great player) for a guy that forced trades out of two previous teams which we then signed to a $9m per 9 year contract and then he provided absolutely nothing this season. He played most of his time on the 3rd and 4th line because he sucked so bad. Basically he is just here for the beach Douglas Costa style. -Lots of fans wondering if Anshutz is paying any attention. -Lots of calls for Dan Beckerman to resign. Sounds a bit like a job for Will Kuntz.
NEWS: Emiro Garces is officially on site with the LA Galaxy. The club wasn't training today, but he did arrive. I imagine he'll be on the training for the Galaxy shortly. We can ask Greg tomorrow. #LAGalaxy #MLS— Corner Of The Galaxy (@GalaxyPodcast) May 2, 2024
Fucking finally https://t.co/p3JgnhK4fS— Mitch (@Mitch_Ducharme) May 2, 2024 He is on site. I like our optimism in this picture that we'll win another title in the next 76 years.
Finally about to get some young (and faster) depth at centerback with Neal back and Garces here. Looking forward to seeing what the 2025 starting centerbacks for the Galaxy look like.
Sources: Toronto FC and forward Ayo Akinola have agreed to a mutual contract termination.Akinola, 24, has only 5 apps this year. The once-highly-touted forward has 4 caps with Canada. pic.twitter.com/EyQAJE7z9P— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) May 4, 2024 need a striker right?
I'd love to hear from our more knowledgeable fans, what the stink is on this guy, a mutual termination when the guy is only 24 and a ton of potential raises some flags for me.
Well so far this year he has 0 g 0 a. Last year he had 0 g 0 a. In 2022 he had 2 g 0 a. In 2021 he had 3 g 0 a. I think I see what the problem is.
Looks like he had a great year in 2020 and everyone was thinking he was gonna be the next big MLS star, and then, well, see my prior post.
I think I get where you're coming from, he needs a coach who is a good tactician and is a master at manipulating a lineup to take advantage of the mismatches and talent at hand, in other words he's not coming to the Galaxy
Akinola was once considered as one of the most promising strikers in MLS. He was on the rise and had a nice 2020 season with TFC (the last season Greg was in charge here), but tore his ACL in 2021 and never recovered. I've watched Toronto a few times the last couple of years and there's not a single time I didn't say to myself "this guy is good". He seems so lost and out of sync now, his first touch is terrible, he's just awful. Toronto tried a change of scenario by loaning him to San Jose last year, but it didn't work. Akinola had a huge salary (771k last year, I believe he was a U22), but I can see a deal where Toronto waives him but keeps a part of his salary on their books, while another MLS team signs him (like we did with Chase Gasper). The timing is strange and it could well be Greg trying to reunite with him. We desperately need another forward so it's not a bad idea, Akinola had potential and Greg was the guy who pushed him in Toronto... But I won't hold my breath. He has a bigger chance to be a bust than to be a success.
11 games in I'm a little concerned about our DPs. I'm not really convinced any are MVP caliber (Paintsil probably the closest) but I'm hoping I'm wrong. Teams (vs. LAFC, Austin and Seattle) have managed to keep them quiet too effectively and I don't see in them the ability to change games single-handedly which is absolutely what you need from your DP players. They need to have individual moments of brilliance that can rescue a game like the Austin or LAFC one. Hopefully as they gel more, that will change. Pec I'm especially worried about. He's very left-footed, so he's not great on the right (usually cuts right into traffic) and he's one dimensional on the left because he doesn't cut in at all. And besides that, he's not really creating a lot for others. These are actually some of the weakest DPs we've had in awhile; as bad as we've been, we've had DPs with real pedigree in the last few years (Romain, Zlatan, Pavon, Chicharito)
In games where teams are shutting down the wing, I'd like to see Joe play more centrally. I think he has the individual skillset and vision. Mark can always cut out wide when needed and Riqui and Gaston can help cover. It could help him be more involved because there are long stretches where he just doesn't seem to he involved at all.
To his credit, Vanney's got them humming, which is a positive sign. They're top 5 in xG (did you know MLSsoccer.com reports xG now!) 2nd in goals (behing Miami), and are top 3 in passing teams along with Columbus, Miami. So the underlying metrics are there. It's the intangibles where this team is weak. So even if, on-paper, we're as good as those teams, we don't have a player the caliber of Messi, Suarez (obviously) or Cucho. Someone who can flip things on a dime even when the team isn't playing well or not getting around the ball. If we don't find another dimension, it'll just be a vanity project.
Yeah, I don't think we've seen the best of Paintsil yet, so there's hope there. He's in the top 10 for key passes, our only DP that is up that high in a goal, assist, or key pass stat.
I'm not the only one who sees it. Here's a real obvious case. I'll be keeping a close eye on Gabriel Pec in these next few games. In this clip, Nouhou gives (and encourages) space for the Pec to dribble on his right. He doesn't and plays backward. You're hoping to see more progression/development as the season goes on 🇧🇷 #LAGalaxy pic.twitter.com/9uraadb9E3— Alex Ruiz (@AlxRuiz15) May 9, 2024 You'd expect a any winger to take that man to the endline and put in a cross, let alone a DP. Right now, I start Fagundez.
