Adamo Campello is since a few days on trial with Örgryte IS, a swedish premier division side. Accordning to the info from the club he has played with Cleveland Force (is that A-league?) and in 2nd Bundesliga and has a couple of caps for USA, as a junior I would expect. The club says they are not looking to fill any position in particular, but simply states "If he is good, we'll sign him. You can always find a place for a good player."
Thanks for the news. This would be Adam Campellone, who played a season or two for FC Schweinfurt in Germany before returning home. I'm not aware of him ever playing for the U.S. at youth level, though I wouldn't be surprised if he were at least a regional-level ODP player. I'm talking out of my behind here, but I'm pretty sure he is young (maybe 22 or so) and was thrust quickly into the German team's starting lineup as a central defender after coming more or less out of nowhere to sign there. (He left college a year early I believe.) I don't think he lasted long in that spot, however. Here's an article with some mentions: http://www.svenskafans.com/fotboll/ois/artikel.asp?id=20638
The Cleveland Force are indoor soccer - a lot of A-league players also play in the MISL to supplement their income, although I guess Campellone joined after coming back from Germany. He's just turned 23 Dave. http://www.misl.net/players/index3.php?id=46&team_id=2
Yeah, Campy was an ODP Region II stalwart, and a High School All American. He had a trial with the Revolution (and also, I heard, the Crew) and reportedly they were interested but they couldn't come to terms, so he went back to looking overseas.
Re: Adamo Campellone trial in Sweden Is this guy related to Dino Campellone, the player from Cleveland Internationals PDL team and the University of Akron?
Perez and Doyle had a short stint with Örgryte 1990, when they were brought in midseason to try to help the club avoid relegation from the premier division. They didn't succeed, though I'm not sure if Perez and Doyle are to blame. Btw, Campellone (thank's for info and correction) was not deemed good enough for a contract.
Thanks, Bill. I don't know if Dino can live up to his brother's promise, but he a decent PDL player. It maybe possible for Dino to get on an A-League bench. Funny though. I remember you mentioning, Bill, of the recent influx of Ohio talent. Now with Kirk Harwat and Campellone going (or trying to go) overseas, it seems like you are indeed more correct. Is NE Ohio an upcoming soccer hotbed? (question purely rhetorical) Let us know if A. Campellone tries out with another team. A little Campellone info courtes of the Cleveland Force: http://www.clevelandforce.com/players/?id=46
Actually, yeah, there does seem to be a real bump in the talent level. This year alone, SMU raided Ohio for three players, and Maryland, St Johns, Syracuse and Indiana (among others) all picked up key talent here. And of course Ohio State got the plum. Next year's class may not be as deep, but features Kiki Willis, who will most likely skip college and accept one of the standing offers from Holland and Italy. What I'm looking for is down the road - is there life after guys like Balc, Willis, Mellencamp, Sandbo and Jones, or was this just a statistical anomaly, a "bump" if you will. The jury is still out, but there's a U15 defender down in residency who is wowing them, and some scary good U17's playing club at the moment.
Hi guys! It's my first post! I need some information about Adamo Campellone. In these days he is on trial with ND Gorica (slovenian championship). It's a little team but every year play the first rounds of European Cups (this year play for the first time in UEFA Champions League for three rounds). Where can I find his previous teams and some stats (game played and goals)? I only know he played in germany second division team in 2001-'02 (6 games, 1 goal). Thanks very much for the attention!
Wow! Didn't see that one coming. Here's the club website for those who are interested: http://www.nd-gorica.com/ First off, you have to search on "Adam" rather than "Adamo" for some of his pre-Germany information. (In short, he left Cleveland State after three years to go to Germany on the recommendation of one of his coaches. To the best of my knowledge he was not a national-level youth player but, as Bill points out, if he was on a region team that's just one level down and still pretty impressive.) After Germany I think he came back for trials and ended up playing indoor mostly.
He played for Schweinfurt as mentioned above, and I had the good fortune of being in the stadium the day he scored his only goal. It was against Babelsberg I believe and both teams ended up getting relegated. The coolest thing about the team was their sponsor that year: F-A-G, which was displayed in huge letters on the front of each jersey. I still kick myself for not getting one, but I am sure I could find one. The F-A-G Group, by the way, is one of the leading global suppliers of bearings. More info at www.******.de edit: I promise this is the name of the company, and I suspect the management team has to deal with the name being deleted from digital correspondence on a regular basis.
There's a Ukranian team named "Fakel" (flame), which was a dull and an ordinary team name in the old USSR. Since the collapse of the USSR and the advent of the Internet age, many people began to question whether the team should change its name, especially since the first syllable is pronounced as a long "a" and not "ey". "Fakel's" chief refused to change anything, instead replying that foreign clubs like La Liga's Osasuna do not have to change their names when they come to Ukraine despite having impolite meanings in Russian/Ukrainian.
