Lineup changes tonight: - Wiley in for Araujo, meaning Etienne slides right. - Fortune in for Roasetto
Etienne finally shows some skills, but it’s 20 yards from our own goal and he gives up a free kick. Good positioning by Guzan.
The kid Fortune does well to win the ball, and the superstar Almada gives it straight to DC on a 3v1 which Guzan does not win. 1-1.
Atlanta attempting the ol’ reliable “nobody step up to the attacker just outside the 18” method of giving up a goal. DC somehow fails to score.
Halftime, and it’s tied at one. Etienne has killed several attacks. I’d like to see somebody a little quicker in the attack on that wing. Otherwise, no change required. Just a little more urgency going forward from everyone.
HT: 1-1 Atlanta looking above average for them. Still some defensive lapses but they're much more lively and in the ball compared to midweek, for sure. The goal by GG was fully deserved and Atlanta could have had another. DC goal a combination of bad luck (deflection) and comical coverage against a breakaway by DC. Fortune is doing okay for his role. He's not crowding Ibarra when Atlanta has the ball, and that's helping Almada fine space. Etienne is likewise okay on the right. He's showing more poise with the ball compared to Araujo, but he's also not the attacking threat and he balked at some prime crossing opportunities, I feel. If they keep this up Atlanta should win. Fingers crossed.
FT: 3-1 Stripes return to the win column, with a vintage 2nd half display. Gutman MOTM with a great goal, Almada with a sweat assist. Lot of attacking play. My only beef was GG picking up a needless yellow just before subbing off, and I believe that means he misses the next match. Apart from that, me happy.
