That is what Transfermarkt says too but now CL Merlo is saying it was for $2M which he is getting the info from Pachuca.
Weird. I knew LAFC was willing to move him but assumed they were willing to because 6m was a good return. Maybe Pachuca is only reporting the upfront fee and there were other installments or something. Very odd for them to sell him so soon too so maybe they are trying to save face.
I am no great defender of our GM and FO, but this seems to be missing some info, or reporting a false equivalence.
Living there as a single male, is one thing.... But I venture, Messi's wife prefers the lifestyle of Miami vs that of Riyadh.
Luis Suarez, Di Maria and Busquest at Miami? I thought it couldn't be possible but according to Tom Bogert it can by buying off Pizarro and moving other players. Busquest might have to be a Max TAM player though. Campana might be available soon within MLS.

Something of interest that I just heard:Former Union academy prospect Bajung Darboe is headed to LAFC.Darboe started in Minnesota's academy, moved to Philly when it was dissolved, then couldn't sign here in part because Minnesota tried to re-claim his homegrown rights.— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) June 9, 2023
Sources: Real Salt Lake have completed the signing of Chicho Arango from CF Pachuca. Club-record fee of $6m.Arango will be unveiled at RSL’s home match against NYCFC tonight.Huge addition. Not expected to be RSL’s last key move of the summer. https://t.co/HdhSyxWUyy— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) June 10, 2023 RE: the price paid by Pachuca to get Arango from LAFC...I think I trust Tom's reporting over CL Merlo? It just seems like massive spin by Pachuca to say they only spent $2M and are tripling their money 6 months later.
Most transfer fees aren't paid in full upfront (unless it's an EPL club). Pachuca may have only made the first of possibly three payments to LAFC? So it is possible that they "only paid $2M" for the player. This sale to RSL covers that total cost and Pachicha will likely funnel these funds to LAFC to complete the initial deal.
Certainly could be. The way CL was reporting it was like Pachuca fleeced MLS and made $4M in six months on the player. I think I suggested something along the lines of what you said. Both reports could be technically true. Either way curious how Arango fits in at RSL and whether he can convince a team to actually want to keep him around.
Pretty obvious to us RSL fans that he’ll be starting up top. Don’t kill my buzz man! Let’s start the criticism when his teammates refuse to pass him the ball.
LAFC probably wanted to keep him around, but because they have so many U22 players.....he didn't fit within the roster rules. Their next DP signing has to be a young DP I believe, Chicho has certainly displayed that he is worthy of a DP contract, and above Max TAM player money.
He obviously scored lots but he wasn't a locked in starter with Cherundolo consistently saying things like "we are looking for more from our forwards" (probably defensively). Pachuca played him less than 500 minutes even though he was productive when he was on the field. That said, he should have every chance to be "the guy" for RSL
Not trying to rain on any parades. I'm excited that he will be in the league again. It's cool to see MLS teams pushing hard to get guys back into the league. Doesn't happen enough. His situation is a little curious (third club in the past year). He will probably fit better in a two forward system or with someone can cover for him defensively. Definitely going to be a goal threat regardless.
I wonder if it was mostly planned to happen last Fall when RSL was looking for a striker and considering Chicho. But in-league transfers can't include cash, just GAM, TAM, picks, and players, and so no way to get sufficient assets to LAFC then, but easy enough now that cash is an option.
He was getting 20-30minutes here and there for Pachuca. When they finally started him on April 10th, he scored once in each of their last 5games. It seems that they took a while to lean on him. With how quickly this deal got done, I wouldn’t doubt there was a kind of gentleman’s agreement last year between the clubs to make this happen. Edit: yeah, what @Ismitje said.
No. That was the posters whole point. RSL can pay cash to Pachuca for Arrango. They can't pay LAFC cash for the player though. Only MLS assets such as player(s), Allocation money, draft picks, international roster spots, etc.
Another of MLS dumb rules. If each team is responsible for transfer fees out of their own pocket and each team gets the money from players they sell I just don't see the problem of why MLS teams can't sell/buy players from each other for cash. Just give them the same amount of GAM like if they had sold the player abroad.
