Would love to see Trusty in the Gold Cup. A call up will only enhance his chances of a good move with his loan coming to an end . It seems transfermarkt saw his value as 2M at the beginning of the loan and 9M today. Safe to assume he did good. Anybody hear anything about Arsenal's plans for him?
Not sure about this at all. If anything, consistency, reliability and durability have been the calling cards of American players down the years.
Seems like a perfect fit for club and country in a 3 CB backline. He really plays great at LCB in a 3 CB system. Really interested to see where he goes next season. Leading the Championship in tackles should merit a graduation to a better league.
I have absolutely no idea where they're getting these numbers from. Fbref has him 6th in the Championship with 65 tackles won (from 101 total tackles), 12 behind Oliver Norwood. While Sofascore doesn't have tackles won, their total tackle numbers are consistent with Fbref. Fotmob has Trusty 32nd in the league with 1.5 tackles won per 90.
I rather doubt that Arsenal are planning on selling him this summer. He arrived last July and was transferred to Birmingham literally the day after he was registered with Arsenal, which strongly suggests that they'd always planned this loan to see how he'd adjust to the physicality of the English game. He's done that unusually well - fans don't often vote a loanee as Player of the Season - so the next step is to bring him in for pre-season and assess him over that period, up to the closing of the transfer window. The most likely outcome of that is another loan, only this time to a promotion contender or a continental side before making a final decision this time next year, when a sale will bring in a heck of a lot more than 2 million pounds.
No surprise he wasn’t in their budget…. Rangers walk away from signing Arsenal centre back, Auston Trusty as the fee is deemed too high.Arsenal know the interest is there with many Championship clubs monitoring the situation so the club are willing to wait until their valuation is met.https://t.co/ZdfziqI4kf— now.arsenal (@now_arsenaI) June 8, 2023
hopefully no americans go there unless theres a permanent offer on the table...no more of this loan to buy nonsense
As long as the individual player, their agent and whoever else they have advising them thinks it would be good for them for a year, then there's nothing bad about going on loan to Rangers. They just need to be clear that they are very unlikely to continue there after the loan period.
Unless your name is Bassey or Aribo or Tillman... It's so odd to me the idea that because one guy who is in the USMNT pool doesn't have a good outcome someplace, so many people ignore verifiable reality of actual events. Clubs like Rangers, Celtic, Groningen, Salzburg, Antalya aren't "100% can't miss" developmental stops on the road to big money transfers, but it's silly to ignore that they can be, if you fit the squad and style, stay healthy and put up numbers. Yeah, it you don't crack the 1st team, a loan to one of those clubs won't do you much and you'll return to the lender looking for another chance, but plenty of players have turned loans or sales to faded glory (or never glory) clubs into a savvy career move cause they, you know, play good and then, cause it's known club, get noticed.
Not so sure about that part. It's not that unusual for purchase options with a predetermined free to be triggered on a close season Monday and the player to be then sold on to another club by the end of the month. Sometimes it's by the end of the week , or even the end of the day.
okay, genius......how did it work out for Sands, Bassett, Dike, haji wright, hoppe, booth, Miazga, palmer-brown, reggie cannon, reynolds, arriola, jordan morris, steffen, eryk williamson, servania, etc? Can it work out sometimes? yes obviously. Should it be used as anything but a last resort? no. preferably, never used. loans are part of the sport...they carry a lot of risk but they are necessary in a lot of instances. still, loaned players are almost always not prioritized in the end...it rarely improves a player's career arc, though that can happen. Auston Trusty's loan was a smashing success for example. loans to buy are different. if a club wants a player PONY UP. that should be the attitude of agents repesenting American players. no more extended test drives with zero comittment, imo.
guys please read carefully - LOAN TO BUY is not the same as loan. if you are club that wants to but an MLS player or an MLS player that wants to go to Euroep - make sure the transfer is final from DAY 1 I cannot beleive I even have to defend this....I feel like a lot of you are just operating off instinct to oppose whatever I say at this point.
Yep, it's got nothing to do with the player's limited abilities (Hoppe, Sands, Cannon), how he handles the pressures of living abroad (Haji), jerkish personality (Hoppe, Miazga), ACL problems (Morris), dodgy knee (Steffen). It's all the fault of loans that American players, in contrast to players form anywhere else in the world, can't handle. Good job Folarin Balogun or Brian McBride (or Haji) never took the loan route. God knows where they'd be now.
You mean loan with an obligation to buy, as opposed to just a loan or a loan with an option to buy? I imagine the obligation to buy loan is a very small percentage of loan deals, and probably just reserved for top quality players with a team that needs to delay a purchase. I know Mbappe to PSG was a loan with obligation to buy. I guess PSG needed to get their FFP numbers in order first.
