I am especially sad for Moe Kimotsuki: she was a favourite of mine since she was in playing college football in Fujieda and it's a shame that she didn't have a career up to what she was promising back then.
Kimotsuki has not played for about eight weeks now, so I was wondering what had happened to her. I really liked watching her play, so it is sad to see her retire, but I wish her all the best for the future. She was a very good player in my opinion. Matsubara has a pretty full-on illness, so this was expected. The last two seasons she had not been anywhere near her best and I think it is safe to say that the illness had affected her play. She was very good when she first came to Nojima. Her message on the Nojima website was very nice too.
Very sad. Nagano are the only WE League team I follow on Twitter (I do check on others though) because I liked watching Kimotsuki Moe play in the WE League Cup last summer. Might have to find a new team to follow in that league to follow now .
Jun Endo on the stands of todays match Angel City vs. Chicago Reds. (video 5:11) Appears she wears some kind of knee brace (no cask) and moves relatively freely without the need for crutches. Let's hope it's just a sprain.
Minami Ishida is also retiring. She spent eight years at Nojima debuting when Nojima were still in Nadeshiko League 2. This season she has not played that much, but when she has played she has been good. Her defending could let her down, but she was always good in attack. She was a good servant of the club.
She plays in the one position where Nadeshiko is absolutely stacked so I hope they carefully consider her fitness. I think she will be okay for the world cup, but if she is not they can take a number of very good players in her stead. The first player that springs to mind is Yoshino Nakashima who has been very good for Regina all season. The way Nakashima has played this season I think she should be in the squad even if Endo is fit.
I agree, but I worry about something. When she was selected for NT before, she looked nervous and unconfident in some training session. It may take some time for her to fit in a new circumstance.
Although part of me agree with you, in the latest years i came to the conclusion that being exposed to European or American football on a regular basis is an invaluable bonus: I see many outstanding talents in WE League, but, although I am somehow sorry to say it, I would always pick an international over the best talent in our domestic league.
🏟️ バルセロナ戦でスタジアムに来て頂いた39,454人の方に尋ねてみて下さい💛❤️ pic.twitter.com/LiVkONNBo8— ASローマ (@asromajapan) June 6, 2023 Some Japanese guy quoting AS Roma’s Japanese twitter account: “who watches such low level sport like women’s football” AS Roma: “Please ask all the 39,454 fans that came to watch our game against Barcelona!” AS Roma giving me all the reasons to be my favorite European club.
Until the WE League starts attracting foreign players, coaches, etc, a player’s domestic form means next to nothing on the international stage. There are too many elements of the game lacking from the WE league for it to be an accurate indicator of how a player would perform against international opposition. My opinion on this has drastically changed in recent years. 2 years ago I would’ve said the level of WE league is comparable to that of Serie A femminile. With how Roma performed in the UWCL, I think they’ve far surpassed Japanese domestic football at this point.
I agree, but give her a few opportunities and I think she will be fine; she is a smart footballer. She is obviously a bit on the outer due to her never playing for Nadeshiko at junior level, which means she has never had any opportunities to build relationships with any players outside of her club teams. I agree with the first part of your statement. I think playing overseas is so beneficial. Minami, in particular seems to have improved greatly thanks to her move to Roma. I think Japanese players should do it just for the experience and to challenge themselves. However, I think choosing a player just because they play overseas is a dangerous way to think. If I am to follow your logic you are saying you would take Hamano over Fujino? I want to stress that I completely understand where you are coming from with palyers who play overseas, because we get to see how good they are against international players. But with some players you can just tell that they will be fine in any league and at any level. I think Nakashima is one of them. I could be wrong of course.
To be frank, the answer is probably yes: they're both impressive young players and I would much probably bring both, but, if I'd really have to choose, I'd probably give the nod to Hamano: although Fujino, in perspective, could even be marginally better than Hamano, the fact that Hamano is used to battle European-type defenders, in my opinion, is a key-feature that can't be discounted.
Fair enough. I do not watch enough European football to be able to judge the depth of these leagues so I will trust you and @Ponde_Ringu.

Uppsala 1 - 3 Linkoping (highlights) Saori Takarada and Yuka Momiki both played full 90. Momiki was involved in action leading to 1st goal and scored 3rd goal from pk. Linkoping will need to hire new coach. Andrée Jeglertz came to Linköping in 2021 and was tasked to take the club back to the top of the league and play in Europe - which he succeeded in doing. But now after his contract is over Jeglertz chooses to leave Linköping for another assignment, namely as the Denmark WNT coach. Ichika Egashira scored 2 goals today for Excursionistas. She is climbing her way into top 10. If she continues this way, bigger clubs form Buenos Aires like River Plate for example may take an interest in her. WWC opponet watch Costa Rica provisional WWC roster Criticized by fans in recent years, coach Amelia Valverde (8 years at the helm) has called up a squad of "the usual suspects." Notable absence: Shirley Cruz, who ended her career. Now that FIFA has announced that players are guaranteed payouts for participation in the WWC (at minimum $30k / per player for group stage round alone) some of the national team appointments - especially in countries where woso is underpaid or/and the team has slim chances to advance from the group - may feel like cronyism.
Well... I looks like Shirley Cruz (age 37) didn't end her NT career but was rather omitted by the coach. Wilmer López outraged by the absence of Shirley Cruz in La Sele: "They don't know anything about football"
The only names I really know are the sisters Villalobos, who were already part of the U-17 NT at the WWC 2014 that was held in their country. Gloriana Villalobos, in particular, had an interesting college career in USA, in Florida State University, alongside Venezuelan FW Deyna Castellanos. I must have also heard about Priscila Chinchilla, but I am not sure if I remember her for some notable football achievement or just for her funny name. Anyway, I guess we can safely assume that Costa Rica fell behind many other CONCACAF teams in the latests years, in terms of growth: teams as Panama and especially Haiti look like they're progressing, while Costa Rica are regressing.
Kanto Ladies Soccer League. Having reached the half way point in their season things will be a bit quiet for a while now. There's 2 section 8 games scheduled for the 18th, 2 for 25th. I have a question for the Europeans (or those living in Europe) on this thread. How is the broadcast situation in your country. As it stands the WWC won't be broadcasted in Japan because no one wants to pay for the broadcasting rights and I heard some European countries (Italy, France, Germany, Spain) are facing the same issue. I don't believe FIFA will just power through the world cup when such major countries in the women's game won't have access to the games but I also don't see FIFA lowering their price. Does anyone have any idea on how this issue will be solved? Edit: Also, just out of curiosity and for fun if anyone would like to share the 23 players you'd take to the world cup. Not who you think Ikeda will pick but a completely biased list of players you want to see in New Zealand. (this question is for everyone on the thread)
In Italy I know the government has been involved in the negotiation between RAI (State TV) and FIFA and they assured that a solution would have been found and Italy's matches at the WWC would have been visible; some media announced a few days ago that the brodacasting rights have been indeed bought by RAI, but so far I didn't see any official statement about it (maybe FIFA doesn't want to announce that until all the parts, in other nations also, have found an agreement? ). Anyway, there have been pressures from public personalities (men players among them) and it looks like the negotiation should be finalized.
