Very interesting. The results of CONMEBOL nations at the U20 World Cup reflect pretty accurately the scores I had calculated for 'youth' for them based on the results in the last 8-10 years. Look at this:

    Uruguay_____________10______________Finalists
    Brazil________________7.5_____________Quarterfinals
    Colombia____________7.0_____________Quarterfinals
    Argentina____________6.5_____________Round of 16
    Ecuador_____________5.5_____________Round of 16

So, the performances of the CONMEBOL nations at the U20 World Cup were pretty much in line to what you could have expected based on how these nations did at the U20 level in the last decade.

My CONMEBOL 2026 WCQ predictions will drop by the end of this month.

How in the world is Alzate not getting call ups? The guy has had a really good season and is coming into his game. I'm gonna call it right now, Alzate will have a good season at Brighton next season and Lorenzo will have egg on his face.

People hate when I say this but I will continue to say it. We do not know the behind the scenes training issues that occur during callups and there may be some factors we will never know about when it comes to player selections.

From what we can witness and analyze though I can come to some simple conclusions. Uribe is one of our leaders and team captains. Castano played decently in Asia in both friendlies. Alzate looked horrible against Mexico.

issue is the fed must be blocking coaches from calling big squads. WTF are all our previous coaches for 2 games calling up WC squads actually less. WC you can bring 26 guys?

The squad really needs to be bigger. We are probably fine at CBs, RB....... and Luis Diaz the rest of the team is up in the air. We don't have a LB so we called a U20 one that is just ok.

Not enough DM/CMs that we called one from a small team that is just ok. Then called 2 strikers that don't score at all. well one place said Cassiera is. winger not a striker thats why his numbers don't seem good.

I hope we get wrecked by Germany and it's a wake up call for the fed to use FKING friendly time to find players.

GKs we don't really have much other than Mier, Montero, Vargas(kind of old and been shit every time he played in yellow) and Ospina (when he is healthy). I mean we have the guy Junior won't play that we call up alot but he is 31 and short.

CBs - Mina, Sanchez, Cuesta, Lucumi, Yaser Mosquera (Wasn't called but Llianas is good CB) that is way more than enough and only position where we can say we are stacked

MF - is ok tho getting old and non of these guys have been consistent across 4 coaches
    - Barrios(overrated), Lerma, Castano(lets see how he does v a good team), Uribe (he in Qatar now stop calling him)

AMF - Arias, Diaz give me boners. Cuadrado is old and just dives. Carrascal is ok but to me seems like a less talented version of Quintero with an even worse career. Asprilla is super over rated. Cortes lets see how he does with a better roster

FW - awful Borre, Cassiera, Valoyes haha the guy who didn't make it Falcao (2 goals this season). Our attacking options seriously can't be this sad

Doesn't seem like a good manager would look at the single friendly vs the seasons long sample size of club play in meaningful games. IDK I wouldn't waste my time thinking about things we can't know rather than the things we can, which is their club form. A single game really doesn't mean much of anything in the grand scheme of how good managers will judge a player.

No one said he used a single game. I literally said there may be factors none of us know about that can contribute to his omission.

I am glad he is doing well in Belgium though. He will probably get a chance in the future but as of now Lorenzo prefers the other two options.

Barrios is not overrated haha. That man made Messi look like Eden Hazard post injury.

he's one of my all time favorite players personally, sadly though he's getting older so we'll have to move on soon

but this is coming from someone who plays regularly

Barrios to me is a fierce warrior with some great moments and good positioning.

There are plays though where his passing and lack of offensive finesse just gets a tad frustrating for me to watch.

So far it seems like Lorenzo prefers Lerma but that may change as it did for Rueda.

Barrios has always been Meh to me. At least on the NT.

I always exxpected a bigger impact from him.

Yep. His quality gets underrated because he played in Russia all this time but he is very highly regarded at Zenit.
