As the new season is just about to kick off (or has in some cases) here is the current position.

    Key points:

Despite Man Utds disastrous season Ronaldo extends his lead at the top while Messi stutters at PSG.

Another prolific season from Lewandowski who moves up to six, another two seasons at Bayern could have seen him overtake Muller as all time Bundesliga top scorer but it will be interesting to see how he gets on at Barcelona and would expect him to get in the top 5 imminently.

Ibrahimovic and Cavani with limited games added a few goals but nothing significant.

The man of the moment an Ballon d'or favourite, Benezema had a big jump and is now 15th and rising fast and could break the top ten next season.

Very sad news for Aguero last season re his issue causing an early retirement, he added one goal,t he is a favourite of mine and would love to have seen a few successful seasons at Barca.

Other notables are a bunch of late season goals for Aubemeyang caused him to rise, Suarez increased his tally but is now heading back to Uruguay and Dzeko continues to add to his total.

Further down Immobile continues to score goals and Kane was outscored by a super impressive Son but will likely break the 200 barrier this season.

Other star names are that Salah broke 150 goal barrier and Mbappe will likely pass the 150 barrier this season and is the next player who will rise up sharply over the next few seasons and I think will ultimately end up top 10. 2122 END A.png 2122 END B.png 2122 END C.png 2122 END D.png

Nice work keeping this up to date mate!

Grenville Morris was Welsh actually, I can point out (I think it must be the ex-Forest player you mean):

Its that time of year again so here goes...

All change at the top as Messi went ahead of Ronaldo for the first time in a long time by a single goal but both no longer in the big five European Leagues so this could be it for those two.

That is a common theme now among the top guys no longer top big 5 leagues re Benzema leaving for Saudi Arabia (who moved up to 12th), Ibrahimovic retiring to and Suarez in South America.

Cavani netted a handful for Valencia but again may not at Valencia next season.

A decent season for Lewandowski saw him move up but still a gap to Muller but it could be done in two seasons and one of the remaining top guys.

Further down, Dzeko edge up slightly but the big moves come further down as Kane is up to 50th and will no doubt improve next year, a really good season for Lacazette saw him jump up and same re Ben Yedder, as Salah and Griezmann also added to tallies.

Mbappé now entered the top 200 and will fly up the charts and be around the top ten in a season or two no doubt, with Haaland on 98 a way off, but rising super fast.

Fairly surprised Suarez is in 26th place and lewandowski is in 5th

That is a difference no YouTube compilation can bridge

Its big five only so does not include Suarez in Netherlands or Lewandowski in Poland for that matter but the former has a bigger impact. Again, this is big five only but earlier in the thread there is discussions around strength of other leagues versus big five through the years.

Do you think it’s conceivable Robert lewandowski breaks into that top 3?

Between him and Gerd Muller is literally one stellar league campaign

Just looking at some of these names that we probably think are shit in 2023

Aubamayeng has more goals in Europe’s top 5 leagues then Samuel Eto’o
And aubamayeng has been a crap player for YEARS now

Aubamayeng was good for a decent length of time at Dortmund and Arsenal but Eto'o chased the cash when in his prime and moved to Russia when pretty much in his prime otherwise he would definitely be higher.

I doubt Lewandowski will do it in one season, but two is a strong possibility if he does not jet off to Saudi too that is !!

If he does I feel the merits of his goalscoring record in top 5 leagues will be superior to Müller

Lewandowski went out of his comfort zone because if he stayed at Bayern he definitely would be breaking that Müller record this season

But having the 2nd most assists in recorded history of football might do it..

From other leagues if you want to give it weight(and you definitely will)
    Johan Cruyff

Assists are overrated anyways(depending how you use them)

Suarez has some nice assists though (probably his best in a top 5 league)

I might have jumped the gun, but i am sure i have seen that suarez has the 2nd most assists in some context of all time.. however. The point still stands even if he was 3rd or 4th, lewandowski is nowhere near the figure.

I am commenting on that remark. Lewa might be a slightly better goalscorer, primarily in the poacher aspects (plus bundesliga is the most attacking league compared to any top 5 league), but to say this is where debate stops is not true

I don’t think AD78 would appreciate us going all out guns blazing in his thread(which is a very specific thread)

So I’ll have to respectfully agree to disagree with you on this point and maybe return to this on another thread at a later point

That Suarez assist I linked you is actual ammunition you can use when asked by anyone for examples of things he can do that lewandowski could never do:D
